  1. So I've unsuccessfully been looking for a pic of how a carpet-less 986 looks like, but no luck.  I.e., I'd appreciate if someone could give me a pointer.

Besides, I''m also looking for a pic of how a stripped down (fully exposed) brake handle looks like -- without all the plastic.

I just got those aluminum race floor-panels that I'm debating whether to install, in lieu of my soaked & stinky carpets, or not:

(Btw, if anyone in SF bay area knows how to reset an immobilizer, please p.m. me)

  2. After I got my see-through engine door, I've discovered a few things that make me go 'hum'. One issue is that the throttle cable doesn't pull the throttle all the way when the pedal is floored -- it's still possible to pull the throttle a bit further with my fingers. I wonder if this is due to an old stretched out cable? I checked my Bentley shop manual, but I couldn't find how to adjust this cable. Any help & suggestions appreciated.

  3. I just found the culprit; a broken shift rod (see picture below). But I have no idea how to replace it -- I don't even know how to get it off (looks like it's crush pressed) and probably need a special tool..? Again, any help appreciated (and if you're in the Redwood City, CA neighborhood and would like to help me, I'll happily treat you for a fancy dinner ;^)

  4. Oh boy, this won't be a 'happy new year' -- when driving home tonight I suddenly couldn't get my '98 Box into 5th gear... and then, shortly after, I realize that I only have 2nd and 4th -- no 1st, no 3rd, and no reverse. The shifter is also "loose", vertically. As always, any help appreciated.

  5. Whenever it rains, water collects somewhere behind the headrests (mostly behind the passenger seat). While driving, I can hear how it runs back & forth behind the driver's seat and the passenger seat -- sounding like it's an inch deep. Since this is something that happened quite recently, I suspect there might be some drainage that's clogged. Any help appreciated, (it's a Box '98).

  6. Well, here's something crazy weird -- once in a while when I brake, the horn goes off. Although it's an intermittent problem (can be gone for days) it's quite annoying when it happens, (was even followed by a cop who thought I was honking at him). Anyone knows what this might be, and how to fix it? Btw, is there a fuse for the horn that I can pull until it's fixed, if so, where is it? Mine is a '98 Box.

    Any help appreciated,

  7. Thanks guys for advising on this job -- so I finally changed all my brake-rotors and pads (well, my Ducati buddy did it for me ;^) The front took only 50 minutes, while the rear took us a bit longer since we had to solder the censors (somehow I ended up with a pair that had different connectors). Now the brake-wear light is finally off, and I'm happy as a clam.

And how do you know this? Perhaps by doing the afore mentioned test of taking "the median of a series of tests"...?

Below you'll find a dyno chart for a hacked muffler. I'm just curious what they exactly did to it, since it's quite an improvement, especially the torque.

  10. I saw some increased HP numbers from a gutted (meaning cut open & rip out) muffler. I'm curious what exactly such muffler hack involves -- gut the entire thing, or perhaps just open up certain parts..? It would also be interesting to know how different the sound would be compared to the stock muff. So, has anyone here done this gut-out hack?
