  1. I've done that already and have gone through the checklist on the pump and all seem OK. It is time to bloody my fat hands and go inside. Thanks for the info. Ed
  2. When I was researching these fault codes it said that it was necessary to remove the alternator to gain access to the change over valve. When I was digging into the engine it seemed easier to remove the intake manifold. Is this true, or is there a reason I should not do this? Thanks in advance for your help. Ed 98 Boxster w/tip
  3. I drove a 2006 non S model, before purchasing my 07 S model, so even more of a differnce with HP... I think is was like 240 vs. 295. Can't really notice much difference in every day driving, but do notice in "spirited" driving. Either way, great fun car, though I would not choose a tiptronic as I believe it kills the driving experience. I had a 350z roadster in automanual transmission and I broke the lease after only 1 year b/c it just was not fun to drive. I ended up with a mazda 3 5-speed as my daily driver and I actually have more fun driving it than I did my 350zr. My fastest times on the track have been with a Tip. Is it going fast or the illusion of going fast that you seek? Ed
  4. A couple of monts ago I got a MO30 Row set, springs, struts and sway bars, for $980 +shipping from Sunset. You might want to see if the special is still available as the set dropped my car a little ove an inch and made the handling so much better. I don't know how much better for the track it would be but on back roads the only thing that I can say is that it feels tight and much more able to do kickbacks. The ride isn't even harsh enough to annoy my wife and Co-pilot. Ed
  5. I tried to do a search and got 45 or so pages of things like convertable tops and becker rado problems along with radio code searches. I , personally, was not able to refine the search enough to get any usful info. Ed http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...38&hl=p1126 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...23&hl=p1126 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...76&hl=p1126 Loren, Thank you very much for the search sites, I am in your debt. Is there someplace on the site which gives you information on refining your search? I would rather not infringe on your patient generosity more than I have to. Thanks again, Ed

  7. I went on a Rally with the local Porsche Club Saturday and on the way home I stopped and got gas, about 20 minutes later it started to rain so I pulled over to put up the top, as the top is going up the CEL came on. I put it on the Durametric and came up with the fault code P1126. I have a 2.5 '98 Boxster with Tip. Any suggestions where to start looking? Thanks in advance. Ed
  8. I just changed to a MO30 ROW Suspension on my 98 base Boxster w/Tip. I noticed that when I took the original springs off there was a dot of green paint at the top of the spring and at the bottom there was a white dot next to a blue dot. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks in advance for your consideration. Ed
  9. 2 years ago I repainted all four of my wheels. My car is Artic Silver and instead of using Wurth paint , which is not a match for the Artic Silver I went to the paint shop and had them mix up a pint of Artic Silver. I then did the following, 1. sand the clear coat off 2. patched al gouges with body filler 3. Sanded smooth and repatched till the hole was filled 4. blew off the wheels and cleaned wheels with brake cleaner 5. took to a dust free place 6. sprayed 2 coats of color with a light sading between coats 7. Clearcoated the wheels, If you are using lacquar to clear coat the best thing to do is give it 3 light coats 1/2 hour apart; let sit for a day and sand and then give it 3 more coats 1/2 hour apart. I gave mine 9 coats and they have survived a little curb rash, 2 winters with salt and still look great with no peeling or chipping. The most important thing to remember is to sand well and keep it clean. It takes a little work but when you are done it will look great and last a long time. The best thing about lacquar is that you wont have to strip the entire wheel if you get curk rask, just sand the area, clean and respray. Ed
  10. I have a 98 base Boxster w/ Tip and have been having some trouble with non starting and erronious gear dash light. I was told that the most likely cause was a dirty selector switch. It was also mentioned that the dealership could clean it out for about $100. Being that I am 1 1/2 hours from a dealer and it seems that for $100 it cant be all that hard I would like to do it myself. I have tried the search feature and have come up with a few thousand non- related hits. Any suggestions on the search question or has anyone tell me how to do it? Thanks in advance as I have a full sring of events coming up and I would like to get rid of any gremlins with my 6oK work over. MO30 ROW suspension, AOS, rotors and brekpads all around , tires and the other 60K maintenance . Thanks, Ed
  11. According to the information given at the Durametric Web site, it will read and clear Tip Fault Codes ; read Alarm codes but not clear them. If that is true then there are not fault codesd on the Tip. I will try and clean the selector switch in a couple of days and see how that works. Thanks for your help. Ed
  12. Yes I did use a battery tender while it was resting. I hooked up the Durametric and got no tip codes. I did have these Alarm codes which I could not clear; 49 K lead 33 Interior Sensor faulty 21 W lead DME Immobilizer I can't be sure but I believe that these codes were already in there before this problem. I tried to clear them before and was not allowed. Ed You will need a PST2 or PIWIS tester to run Tiptronic diagnostics. (also to clear alarm codes). Thanks, Ed

  14. A quick update on the problem. When I went out to the garage to start the Boxster the indicator light showed that it was in drive. and not park or Reverse as before. I took it for a ride and it seemed to work well but when I put it in Park again it showed a flashing Reverse light again. I shut it off and restarted the car and it showed Drive again. I hasve no idea what is going on. Please help. Ed
  15. I have a 98 base Boxster with Tip. I just woke it up from it's winter sleep and when I put it in park the R indicator light flashes and it does not show that it is in Park. The car started right up and the only thing that seemed different was the shift lever was quite stiff. I originally put that to being very cold for a long time. The temp outside is about 34 and it was in an unheated garage which was probably below freezing because of the lack of light. I do not remember this befoe, but I never put it away for more tha 6 weeks before. I tried the search feature but could not find any info. Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ed
  16. You will find that there are fewer IMS problems with the Tip than with a stick because of the way the trans and engine are mounted. If the checks out, go for it. If you spend your life worrying you will spend no time enjoying it. Ed
  17. It takes onger to put the car in service mode than to change both filters and you can get both filters on eBay for around $50.00. Save yourself app. $150 and see how beautiful your engine really is. Ed
  18. If that's true, the why did they put the redline at 7000? ...I exceed 5000rpm every day. Shoot, probably on average once a minute B) If so, why does the tip shift at revs higher than 5K. Now to get back to the original Post. Yes, the Porsche is costlier to repair, but there is nothing for nothing. I put on at least 15K of hard miles a year on my 98 Tip Boxster and only use it 8 months a year. Come Spring I'm like a little kid waiting for the nice weather. With all the worrying people do about their engines and such why is the Boxster still rated one of the most trouble free cars? Enjoy it or get rid of it along with all those unnecessary anxieties. You might drop dead tomorrow.
  19. With the 12" of snow and the -8 we are expecting all I can say is Here, Here.
  20. Three years ago, when the car market wasn't depressed, I purchased a 98 Tip with 28K for $18K. There was nothing wrong with the car and all I have done so far with 60K on the clock is routine maintenance. Even if you have to travel a couple of hours you should be able to find a nicer one for less money. The truth is that it is a buyers market and with money , you rule. Ed
  21. It is not a spoiler switch as I know it because one of the cool things about the hack is that there is a small red light that blinks when it is going up or down and stays on while the spoiler is up. Also, that is not the logo on the switch. If it is really a garage door switch I would like to know. Thanks, Ed
  22. Pick up trucks ,with their very light rear ends , never do good in snow and ice without some sort of help. Mine is 3 sand bags in the box for traction , and possible help gettin out after getting stuck and using 4WD when there is snow on the ground. Wait till you really have to stop quick. Good Luck, Ed
  23. If you go wire by wire this should work. Where there is room to work temporatly splice a long piece of wire in line, then go to the other side of the firewall, pull the slack thru, repair the damage, pull the slack back thru the firewall and take out the temporary splice. Might take a long time but should work. Ed
