  1. First, I believe that the wiring harnesses from the factory are unique to the car and it's make-up, meaning that if it wasn't slated to have heated seats the harness will not be there for a hook-up. Second, I was told that the Porsche heater switches are different that normal and won't work on an aftermarket system. Third I had aftermarket seat heaters installed a couple of years ago and it was fairly in-expensive and they have performed well. As a bigger person, when they removed the seat covers to install the heating pads I had them flare the bolster wings a littel and it gained much needed kidney room. Ed
  2. I have a 98 Boxster w/Tip. I would like to change the cigarette lighter to a standars sized one but can'y seem to find any info on removal of old one. Is it simplly popping out the old one and pushing in the new one, or do you have to dismantel the dash to achieve access? Thanks for your time and help. Ed
  3. Just a quick update on the cooling problems I was experiencing. I drove the car for quite awhile and the car was still running hot in an odd sort of way, after 45 min. or so of normal temps it would start running hot. I followed all the procedures carefully and could not straighten it out. I finally bit the bullet and took it to someone who had a vacuum tool. They said that there were still a couple of air pockets in the system and they got them out. My car is now running with the needle on the 8 of 180 for as long as I drive. Funny how stuff happens.   4. I got a reply from Owen at Durametric about this fault. He explained how to diagnose the problem but I still don't understand the problem. Can anyone suggest a direction to go in the research the code and what it means or is it a dealer only problem? Thanks, Ed
  5. I have a 98 Boxster w/ tip. As some of you know I have beeen having trouble with my cooling system after I replaced my water pump. It seems that the fans are not operating correctly now. I was going through fault codes with the Durametric and in Heating and AC code 20 came up, which is listed as Combi-interface Fault. I have not been able to find anything through search or my manual. Has anyone come across this before, or does anyone know what it means. Thanks in advance, Ed
  6. I have a 98 Boxster w/tip. The last two days the horn has been blowing when the pad has not been pushed. It usually occurs when I apply the brakes, but I can't say for sue if that is the only time. It is an intermittent problem and I am not sure if it is the alarm horn or the auto horn. Has anyone had this problem before and if so how did you pepair it? Thanks in advance. Ed
  7. Spent yesterday playing with the car and found nothing. Could it have been a combination of very humid weather causing extra flo out of the front condenser and a bad radiator cap? I have a black cap but have just ordered a new and improved cap. Is it normal to have a cap fail in 20K miles? Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks, Ed
  8. Ed, You have it backwards, you have to turn on the HEATER to cool the engine when it overheats, you want to draw heat from the system. The AC just puts another load on the engine and increases the heat. And I would also check the front radiator area for loose hoses or a pinleak. Also check your expansion tank if you haven't changed it yet, those puppies crack and get your rear trunk wet. Paul I had heard that Porsches were opposite normal cars and that when you put on the air conditioner it started both fans and therefore helped cool the fluid. My trunk has no water in it, the car is just leaking from near both passenger fenders. I am at a loss. it doesn't seem to be a cracked tank because of where the fluid is leaking.   10. I was not driving around with the vent open because I thought that it was purged after the second refill. I guess that I was not patient enough. Yes, a Pork Festival. Everything made of pig and all you can drink w/music. Barbq, ham, sausage, pulled pork, chittlins, smoked pork chops, hot dogs, etc. Thanks for the start, will check it out today. Ed
  11. I just changed the water pump in my car a month ago. I did all the right stuff bleeding the system and went for a ride on a very hot day, got stuck in traffic and had the temp hit about 200. Turning on the AC did nothing except make it go higher. Just before I got home the coolant level light came on. Filled with fluid and the fans started working and I thought that all was well. Didn't have much time to drive lately but I went for a ride yesterday, my wife and I stopped for dinner. We got in the car and went about 2 miles and the temp started rising again. I pulled over and I see this trail of fluid following me , with fluid leaking out by the passenger front and rear wheels. Filled with water, pulled the vent and drove home slowly with the AC on. I could hear the fans working and the temp didn't exceed the end of the 0 on 180. Just before I got home the fluid level light started flashing again. I pulled it into the garage and started filling it with antifreeze and it continued to run from the same 2 areas. I have a 98 w/tip and I replaced the cap on the coolant tank with an upgraded one about 3 years ago. Can anyone give me help on this as I am supposed to take a very long weekend in very early June to go to the Vitginia Pork Festival and cruise the state a little. A long trip in hot weather. I don't want to have to take the wife's Volvo. Thanks in advance for the help. ED
  12. When shocks go bad they will show signs of leaking around the piston. Otherwise they are OK. If the ride is getting worse, you can also check springs, motor mounts, suspension parts. Ed
  13. Where in Eastern Pa/Nj are you from. There is a decent shop in Porsche Stroudsburg and one in Allentown, Pa. Ed
  14. From your post it sounds like there was some moisture left on the calipers. The brake cleaner will not get rid of all the moisture as water and hydrocarbons will not usually mix and the results will be as you described, lumpy and not flowing. It might have worked with the spray that your GF brought to you because the water evaporated by the time she got there. Even a very little moisture will mess up an oil based paint. Ed
  15. You left your doors open in the rain or maybe your drain lines are plugged. Cleaning them is an easy DIY. Ed
  16. At what RPM is the engine ideling? Maybe they "adjusted the idle" and it is now too low. Just an idea. Ed
  17. I have a 98 Boxster w/tip. I was having some problems with the secondary air injection and finally got it straightened out About a week and a half later and many cycles I am in the middle of a spirited run for the Watkins Glen Vintage grand Prix festival and the CEL comes on. Performance didn't seem to change. I get home after the weekend and get 3 fault codes that don't seem to make sense and of the 3 I can't seem to find the explanation for one. The codes were P1124 PFC 167 fuel pump relay final stage; P1126 PFC 356 O2 sensor adaptation and the weird one for these others is P1602 PFC 660 -Can-Instrument Cluster. My low gas light did come on when I was taking the car for gas a couple of days before we left for The Glen and I didn't drive it at all afterwars as the weather was nasty and I had just cleaned it. Anyone with ideas as to what is going on. Thanks,

  20. It is a seperate piece which can be rermoved. You can probably get a used one from one of the Porsche dismantlers. Ed
  21. I have a truck! They do make a nice hitch or two for the Boxsters so the exhaust pipe is un-necessry as a mounting point. I tried not to bore anyone with my plans, all I asked if anyone towed and since you didn't even know a hitch was available then you are not the person I wish to speak to. Thanks, Ed I've seen a couple of guys tow a tire dolly behind their boxster to the track. Not sure of the weight, but four mounted tires on light weight wheels plus the weight of the dolly. Their hitch was connected to the bumper where the bumperettes are - looks like they re-install the bumperettes to hide the connection point after the track weekend. Looking at reg for a DE I am attending this weekend at Sebring, I THINK one of the 986s that is registered is one of the guys that does this - if so, I'll snap a picture for you.   24. I have a 98 base Boxster with Tip and would like to tow a TearDrop Trailer if possible. I have installed a MO39 ROW suspension on the car if that makes any difference. Does anyone know the actual towing capacity, if any, on a 2.5 Boxster and is there anyone out there who does tow with one. Thanks Ed
