  1. hi, so adding this Krytox lubricant will stop the folding of the rubber seal on the outside of the window when the windows are closing? I dont know if this is correct.... my windows have stopped in its tracks when I try to lower them.... the rubber seal on the outside of the window is folding down in the window so its preventing it from going down.... does this Krytox Lubricant fix the problem?
  2. Hi, Anyone tried removing (taking off) their convertible top on a 996? The reason I ask is that the window has started to separate from the top. I want to take it off, glue or stitch it back up. Anyone tried this? I got different quotes from upholstery shops here in orlando and its ranging from 375 to 1000 dollars. does anyone know of a good Upholstery shop in the central FL area? Thanks to all
  3. Hi, can someone give me the radio code for my car? I got it used and it did not come with the card. Its a 1999 996 OEM Factory Nav unit. Model BE2562 Serial W5001601 Thanks,
  4. thanks all for the replies. i have the oem keyless entry but the FOB has stopped working. to get a new one, it would cost around the 250-300 dollar range just for a new remote. For that price, i was thinking I could just get a keyless entry system with the ability to operate the windows and maybe add the ability to operate the convertible. So I guess it all started with the FOB failing and me not wanting to pay 300 dollars for just another remote.....
  5. no its not the Mods4Cars version. I was just thinking that it be possible to add keyless entry to our cars, once i have that installed, i would like to add remote window operation and remote convertible operation. I would not be disabling the factory alarm, just bypassing it. If i had the diagram that labels all the wires, then maybe this will work....If anyone has one, please provide, thanks!
  6. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has the wire diagram to a 1999 996 cab. I am trying to install an aftermarket keyless entry system that will also be able to control the convertible top and the windows remotely. Has anyone tried this, does it work? I am not going to disable the factory alarm, but merely bypassing it??? All thoughts are encouraged. Thanks
  7. Hi, Well, my remote has stopped working (tried all the tricks, ie flipping the battery, pressing unlock while in the key hole), and nothing has worked. So i was thinking, why not jsut get a complete new alarm system (lock/unlocking, and remote starter) for the car. Has anyone done this? Does this work? My key to the car still works and i called my dealer, he was like, "200 dollars for the key and another 60 for programming." So for 260 dollars, can't I just get a new alarm system. As always, thanks for the input.
  8. i know this may sound crazy but i use that stuff called "Nu Finish" It comes in this ugly orange bottle. But it does the trick for me. It beads like crazy (i live in FL and need it cause of the hourly thunderstorms) and it gives the car a very smooth finish. I have tried other stuff (whenever I go to the shop, but i always come back to this stuff). Just my thoughts.
  9. Hi all, i am very interested in the MKII mod for our 996 ( I have a 1999 3.4L C4). I have called the local porchse dealership and he has a set of 3.6 muffers off a 997. My question is, will this fit my 996 and are there complications in doing the MKII mod? Thanks!
  10. Ranger, I have gone to Rennlist and read your posts on this issue. I just wanted to see if what they quoted me covered under the engine would protect me from a blown engine. From the comments of viper, he does not think so. Since coverages are different in each state, I wanted to know for sure if a 3rd party warranty covered the engine here in FL. I would hate to buy the warranty and then have to hire a lawer to fight for a new engine. It would defeat the purpose of the warranty. Thanks for the help!
  11. Viper, Thanks for the advise. I would not have known any of that. Considering your comments, i dont think i will be purchasing the extend warranty. Thanks for saving me some money!!!!!
  12. Thanks for all that replied. So i called Porsche and the service guys tells me I have nothing to worry about in terms of engine failure???? I told him there are numerous reports that the engine is unreliable. I dont know what to do anymore. I also asked him if he has dealings with Royal Admin. and he said no. A extended warranty provided he has dealt with and recommended was Warrantech. I will complete a search and see how much they want. As for what is cover from the Royal Admin. warranty, I really dont know if it will cover a blown engine. (I am no mechanic). Below is whats covered from the engine. ENGINE: Crankshaft and bearings, oil pump, internal timing gears or chain, camshaft, camshaft bearings, valve lifters, rocker arm assemblies and push rods, piston and rings, wrist pins, cylinders, connecting rods, distributor drive gear, all internal components of engine block and cylinder heads, if damage is caused by mechanical failure of an internally lubricated part. All gaskets and external seals are not covered. Gaskets and external seals will be covered if their replacement is necessary to complete an authorized repair. Cracked engine block, cracked cylinder heads, and cracked cylinders are not covered. Broken crankshaft is not covered unless the break is caused by either bearings or piston failure. Valve guides are covered only when guide sleeves have not slipped below original position. Can anyone tell me if the "blown engine" would be covered? Thanks in advance.
  13. Thanks for the heads up, I just signed for RennList. I think i am going to go with AA Auto Warranty. 4years/48,000 miles for $1,750.00. Any one had dealings with them? The policy will be held with Royal Adminstration Services. Thanks to all!
  14. Hi all. I have a 1999 996 with 51500 miles on it and I live in Orlando, FL. From the many threads on this forum, I am really scared that I will get an engine failure. I dont want to have to spend over 10K to fix it. So I have been looking into getting an extended warranty. I have been searching the web and there are lots of companies out there. Any one have experince? Did anyone have an extended warranty and used it to pay for their blown engine? Any advise would be great. Thanks.
  15. thanks all, i have noticed that my temp guage has been moving into the middle of the "0." i just check my cap and its the old one, i have just order me a new cap! Thanks for the heads up!
  16. Hi all, a couple of week ago I start a thread on painting my turbo twist. I have since completed the task and am happy with the results. Please take a look! Thanks

  19. Thanks for all the advise. I found a write up on the net that mentioned the use of a paint stripper called "aircraft stripper" Its suppose to get the old paint off so there is less scrubbing? I think i will tey some of it unless someone knows that I should not use the stuff..... thanks
  20. Very nice, I have a speed yellow cab like yours, thinking about painting my rims instead of buying new ones. The tires have like 80% left on them so I will wait till I get new tires then get rims. Any rubbing issues (fitment adjustments) with these 19s?
  21. omg, that is too easy!!! if I were to add clear coat, would it give it more shine?
  22. djomlas: very nice, I too would like to know the process, care to share? I am going to paint the ring "Speed Yellow. " To match the body, anyone know where I can get some?
  23. oh forgot, David: went to your link and saw your car, that is nice, almost gave me a heart attack! congrats!!!!
