In fact a battery reset removed the CEL and everything is absolutely fine again, so seems the MAF simply gave up the ghost. Might be not a bad idea for people to carry a spare MAF around just incase as the car was barely driveable without it working
-
I replaced the MAF and everything seems completely fine, so looks like it was a MAF that went bad, just need to removes the codes from the CEL and trust they don't return
-
unfortunately not as it wasnt on my device

OK so I installed a new exhaust last weekend with 100 cell Cats, All was fine for a couple of days and then suddenly whlist sat at some traffic lights the engine check light came on the idle suddenly went and stayed extremely rough. The error messgae is "E GAS Throttle Idle Air Control" - have I simply blow the MAF ? or is it likely something else

Yes it seems that Steve (aka Qmulus) is one of the few reliable people in the world who can do this for a reasonable price
-
Qmulus has now repaired mine too, all works perfectly, great service thks Steve (Qmulus)
-
Qmulus will shortly get my Cluster too for the Oil level fault resolution its on the way to him
-
ok cool, could you PM me with a reference ( & email address) of someone, whom you have done this for and your offer ex shipping pls

Which model year is your vehicle? On cars with the later style gauge clusters (2001 and later for the Boxster and 2002 and later on 996's have a modular design.) I've seen that people with the later style clusters have had success in swapping parts in the cluster, but I'm not sure if that would help with your problem.
I would also try to be absolutely sure that it is not the oil measuring sensor on the engine that is causing the problem.
early 2001 & yes as it happened directly after the battery incident to which I am not the first to make this mistake

any more help or this thread is at end ?

Mat any news on your side ??

If you search on google under "996 turbo instrument console oil level measurement" it throws up a few interesting posts
-
seems like its a common problem !
-
Sounds like you have the same problem as me, if you trawl the web its almost 210% certainly the cluster when you have replaced the measurement unit, I would ideally like someone to repair my cluster as it can be done
-
any other thoughts please ?
-
Palo Alto don't do 996 Cluster consoles it seems, North Hollywood never really responded to my emails
-
thanks but I guess the instrument console just needs repairing or the appropriate circuit board does, whats the most effective way to get this done ? Can the part be bought for example
-
Ok so I did something really stupid and in a dark garage hooked up a new battery the wrong way round. Everything is fortunately sorted except the engine oil level measurer which I understand after several searches is a problem in the instrument console unit and I understand it can be fixed by replacing one of the circuit boards ??? Anyone know more please
-
Indeed fabulous product you just need to lie upside down in the footwell with a torch pretty easy
-
tx. anyway I can check it visually, is it easy to replace

2001 996 turbo sorry

So after 4 months off the road, all is fine except I get the warning light for the Oil Level Measurement not functioning, any thoughts ? The Oil pressure gauge is good
