  1. OK, Shop has had the car for 3 weeks. They checked the alternator, pulled fuses, car is still draining, I guess it would be time to bite the bullet, take it from the shop and take it to Porsche. Does anyone have any other ideas before hand? Joe The big question is, the Shop has been looking into it without a fix, do they get paid for any of that work if the problem is not fixed?
  2. Well some time you go over to your Dad's and he pulls out an old battery check unit, while the car is running he hooks it up, the indicator for the charging system i.e. alternator says low. Could it be the alternator? Will it still appear to be charging , about 13.5 on the voltage indicator inside the car and the alternator still be bad? I tried the old, disconnect the battery while the car is running trick, no guidance there. Today was fun trying to find a good volt meter, no luck, and then concluding it could be the alternator on not being sure. Might just hand it over to RPM Racing and have them check it over, although I would like to nail this. If it is the alternator has anyone changed it out? is it harder then your average alternator on say a 350 chevy? So it is either the alternator or i need to keep digging? thoguhts?
  3. Agreed, so based on what we know, what should be the draw on the car's battery when the car is off and the alarm is activated, hell or inactive. Can someone take a reading and let me know? Then i will go out again and give it a shot Joe
  4. Ok silly question, I pulled the negative lead off and jumped the negative lead to the battery with the test light, then started pulling each fuse individually and putting them back looking each time to see if the light went out, should it have been the positive lead?
  5. Ok, Now I am really stuck, used test light and removed every fuse one by one, - remove, check test light, replace remove the next one and so on. HELP!!!! Battery still draining and None of the fuses removed turned the light off, I even did this with the doors closed, tried to emulate what condition the car is in when parked. Any other ideas on what this is?
  6. Bulb has not been there in ages? Could it still be the Microswitch?
  7. Loren, I really appreciate the advice, is there any way to verify the problem is indeed the microswitch? Joe
  8. The Battery has been out on the trunk for a long time, I mean literally out. Do you have a MOP for the microswitch replacement or is that a dealer kind of thing? I do not hear a chirp when I activate the alarm, only the flashing lights and the signal indicator (flashing red light)
  9. I have been slowly trying to replace my Graphite look stock interior pieces to just the flat black interior pieces found on many of the new 2001-2004 Flat black pieces. Upper console, Side vents, etc. Does anyone know besides going to the dealer a good source. I would rather not have painted pieces. Just the standard real black OEM look or OEM. Anyone know a good source would be helpful. Joe
  10. I just replaced my battery and I am finding as of late something is causing my battery to drain, this most likely caused me to think it was my last battery going dead, so i shelled out the $70.00 and bought a new one. Specs: I have added nothing new, the battery does charge from the engine, I am showing good levels on my indicators, so I have no clue what is causing this. Obvious thoughts: I am not leaving the door open, the only thing I suspect is the alarm system, however, I am not sure. It is all stock electronics. Anyone have any ideas? Joe
  11. Hmmmm dealer called, they must be trying to get a jump on things. That said, anything on the 90k?
  12. I have the 80K service coming up on my 99 996. Is this something of a DIY or Dealer? I have been doing a search and I see nothing come up for this. Information would be appreciated.
  13. Is it possible to install the PCM2 in a 1999 996? Has anyone attempted it?
  14. I am trying to find the right wing (no puns or politics here) for my 99 996. Can anyone send pics of their favorites. I have seen the GT2, the Turbo, GT3, Ideally I would love a Gt2 blad on a Turbo look decklid on my narrow 996. I have not found that combo yet.
  15. Do you guys know where to get and how much the replacement for the entire roof strip is? It looks like the previous owner just tried to force something like a rack into the slots of the roof on my 99 996.
  16. A good friend of mine had a repeating RMS leak on his 2001 Boxster. After Warranty Porsche still replaced the engine due to repeat RMS issues. This ofcourse being the short version of the story. Now he has a difference in the part numbers, he would like to know if there is a difference in the engines? I think they may only be different becasue one was an engine core and the other was the entire engine, but I am not sure. Old 966-100-922 FX 2.7L 2001 New 986-100-922-FU core replacement eng Could someone let me know.
  17. I am thinking of replacing out the bumper on my 99 996 I have looked at the RUF, GT2, and I guess what is a GT or Matrix bumper. Does anyone know where i can get this bumper or find out pricing on it (see picture) also welcome any opionions about the change.
  18. Sounds a lot like your ignition switch, very common on the 1999. There is good and bad news for you, first the bad news, If it is the ignition switch (I'm willing to bet money it is) Porsche no longer makes that part and has made everyone with this problem at the dealer swap out for a whole new ignition system. The great news is the part is the same at VW and Audi. use this link for much more information. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1313 I will email you the instructions also. I was able to do the job in about 15min. The switch can easily be found on ebay for $20.00. If you are handy enough, its easy. Hope thats it, It should be. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have mail!! ( the instructions)
