  1. Last night my 1999 C2 wouldn't start (no power even getting to the starter solenoid, checked the clutch position sensor and it *seems* to be working). Ended up having to push-start it to get it home (thank goodness for friendly people!). I've already replaced the ignition switch, although it was a while ago, and recently replaced the starter drive. Can someone please PM me the wiring diagram for the lines running between the ignition switch and the starter? I'm looking for any relays or fuses that might be along the path as well as where the wires themselves run. Thanks in advance!
  2. So it's time to replace the clutch in my 1999 C2. Does anyone have the R&R guide that they could send me? Any gotchas I should be aware of? I'm also going to do the RMS while I'm in there. Thanks in advance!
  3. I had the same problem on my 99 C2. I'll bet the ranch that the bushings in the 4 spoke frame are shot. The Part number is 993 347 088 01. Retail $65 - I paid $47 from Sunset. Its a relatively easy fix, just follow the instructions in kabel's post (link) to remove the airbag. One extra note not covered is how to remove the air bag power connector from the steering column. Just pop off the yellow plug from underneath with a flat head screwdriver. Good luck. I also had this problem in my 99 C2. Since I haven't had time to do a real fix, you may consider my method: folding a parking lot pass over itself several times and shoving it in behind the horn pad to space it off on the side where the bushing is weak. Ghetto, yeah, but your horn won't blow after every bump or hard turn! :)
  4. Where on a 1999 996 would one find the fuel pressure check valve? Thanks!
  5. I cleaned the ICV and so far haven't had any of the same symptoms, but the failure has always been intermittent. It still has what almost sounds like a soft skip at idle (not on the same cylinder every time and not serious enough to pop a code). When I was cleaning the ICV, I noticed that below the valve, on the sensor/motor portion of the ICV, there were cracks that the carb cleaner ran out when I was drying it with an air compressor. Could this be a sign that I need to replace the entire unit?
  6. I haven't noticed any smoke. I'm in Atlanta, where we've had fairly moderate temperatures for the last few months.
  7. Hello everyone. I have a '99 C2 with 79k miles. For the last few months, I've had intermittent problems with starting (takes a long time, seemingly at random; other times, starts fine) and with a hunting idle below 1k RPM. I haven't been able to correlate the failure to any specific variable (ambient temperature, engine temperature, amount of fuel, etc). Additionally, I can often smell fuel after cranking. Initially, I thought it may be tied to the ignition switch issue, but I replaced the electronic backing of the switch and have had no further problems there but my starting and idle problems persist. As the CEL as been illuminated for some time, I finally broke down today and went to AutoZone for a code pull. Turns out, I've got P0446 (EVAP Canister), P1124, and P1126. I tried searching the forums for these codes, but I haven't found any definitive answers. My initial thoughts were fuel delivery. Does this make even vague sense? If so, where is the valve to check pump pressure? What else should I be considering?
  8. Has anyone had any body repair or paint work done in or around Atlanta? I've got several parking lot dings and one small dent that need repair on my 1999 996, Arctic Silver, and I want to make sure it comes out just right. Any recommendations?
  9. My 1999 996 has 69,500 miles. In the last few weeks, I've had a problem with the AC fan not starting when I crank the car. Usually if I turn the car off and turn it back on, the fan will start up. Sometimes, it takes two off/on cycles. This morning, the wipers AND the AC didn't come on until I shut off and re-cranked the car. Turning the climate control system on and off doesn't fix the problem. Anyone have any ideas what would be causing this?
  10. I have also been wondering about this. I'm of the mind that the dipstick is the way to go, but then again, I work in IT so I mistrust computers by default. :P
  11. First post, so please bear with me. I have a 1999 C2 with 64k miles, purchased in January (or, as I like to think of it, 6k miles ago). I've noticed that the pedal effort seems stiff. There is no over-center point or varying degrees of stiffness, just a tough push from top to bottom and a firm push back. To verify this, I went and drove another 1999 at a local dealer that had just replaced the clutch; much easier. Now I don't expect it to be a limp, easy push; after all, it's not a Neon. :) But does anyone know why the effort would be so much higher on this car than another of the same model? Any repair suggestions?
