  1. http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1.aspx This implies that all mobil1 has super syn in it. Extended has 50% more, but not made in 0W 40, and not approved by Porsche. Just get Mobil1 0W 40 and you will be fine, if you would feel better get it from your dealer.
  2. The following is from a similar discussion over on the Rennlist.com: >>I received a couple of responses on this, characteristic of which was this one from Steve Weiner at RennSport Systems. Since he replied to the public Racing list, I'm cross-posting his response here so you can also benefit from his input: -=-=-=-=-=-=-included bit-=-=-=-=- Be very careful about what you are buying; you do NOT want the Mobil 1, SM-rated 15w-50 stuff. That stuff lacks sufficient ZDDP to protect your motor. Mobil has reformulated this product and has released a non EP 15w-50 and its undergoing testing to see what its ZDDP content is. Once thats done, I'll post that here. Oils have truly changed over the past 2 years. All the formulations have been reconstituted to reduce ZDDP content to comply with the EPA laws that require extended cat life. This is NOT good for Porsche (or any other) engines over the long term and what was once OK, isn't anymore. Once things have settled a bit, I'll put some specific oil recommendations on my website. -=-=-=-=-=-=-end included bit-=-=-=- << All Mobil1 oil is SM rated, Who knows how much ZDDP they put in it, but there are a lot of other Zinc compounds to chose from for a replacement, and other secret 11 herbs and spices. I’m not going to worry too much about it. You also might want to check out http://www.api.org/certifications/engineoi...lable(CJ-4).pdf just FYI

  4. The only "Engine Oils Approved By Porsche" that is 50W is Mobil1 5W 50, and they do not make it anymore. Who knows why they took off all the other 50W oils, including Mobil1 15W 50. Maybe they think 50W is to viscous, and belongs on pancakes, not engines. But I like 15W 50, by the way. TP do you have any answers?
  5. Tool Pants: I was planning to also run some test on the other filters, since WIX is the only one with published specs. So I have modified my coffee maker to take P filters and will see what comes out.
  6. Tool Pants: Thanks, I found the answer after poking around on the Mobil1 web site. 50% more SuperSyn. http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorO...FAQs.aspx#FAQs1 Next I'm going to attack some filters. It looks like from your pictures that the WIX filter has fewer pleating than the others. How does the amount and type of filter material affect performance? I would think the more the better. Back to Wal Mart, I hope they don’t mind if I cut a couple of Filters open. :D
  7. Hi Joe; Check out http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9454 also http://mobil1.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oil...ruck_5W-40.aspx There is a Porsche approved Mobil1 5W 40, but I don't know if this is it. Scotto
  8. Tool Pants, No, you will have a 3.4L Boxster I’m sure tweeked to 400+ Hp. Do you know what the difference is other than cost? $11+ more for the “good stuff” with the cool Gold cap. Exxon Mobil isn’t telling on their web site. Is there any one out there from Exxon Mobil that wants to tell us? Cost for oil: Porsche Recommended salad dressing, 0W 40 Mobil1 $5.97 x 9Qt = $53.73, I can’t find it in 5Qt containers. Unapproved extra virgin olive oil 15W 50 Mobil1 $23.62 x2 5Qt = $47.24, with a Quart left over to lube the garage floor. Unapproved extra-extra virgin olive oil 15W 50 “Extended Performance” $29.24 x2 5Qt = $58.48. They say is good for 15k miles on the label, I guess they disagree with Porsche on the 20k Oil Change. I usually also add a cup of Beck’s beer just to make it feel at home, but it does require a more frequent oil change for the higher performance.
  9. Tool Pants, I see you went all out, and used the “extended performance” oil with the cool Gold cap, that costs more. Are you going to try to make it to 20k before the next oil change? I can’t find specs on Mobil1.com to see the difference, they only list one type, I think it’s the extended, The price at the store for that Gold cap is a few bucks more. Wal Mart carry’s both types by the way, and two of these containers are just about right for the P oil change, and cheaper buy bulk container. Where is Costco when I need them? Let me know how that WIX filter works out, I have been using them in all my other cars for years now. scotto :clapping:
  10. Take a look at the first and third picture of the 0W-40 from this thread: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9454 You'll note the European Car Formula in the first pic and the SuperSyn Technology in the second pic. David The first picture looks like older packaging, and the third I think is newer. If you go to mobil1.com you will see the newer packaging. To make it more confusing, if you look at the Mobil1 0W40 PDF, you will also see European Car Formula (NA) or Protection Formula (EU), but not SuperSyn Technology. Only one Specifications and Approvals are given for 0W 40. I think it’s all the same or evolved some with time.
  11. There are some posts on this problem, As I understand it, the light and switch circuits are not the same. Just because the light works, does not mean the door switch part is working, go figure. It is probably an older key, and the trunk switch does work. So it is not a problem with the transmitter or receiver. If you do a search on the forum you will find some solutions. They involve cutting plastic bags and shimming the worn switch, which by the way does seem to work.
  12. I know of only one, Mobil 1 0W-40, and I had a hard time finding it at the local auto stores. The previous reply is a good web site for checking out the products however.
  13. Hi all, I got an FM transmitter not much bugger that a lighter plug. It has 4 preset FM channels and a mini phone jack, that plugs into my iPOD. It seems to work well, not as well as a direct hookup I’m sure, but it was only $20 at Walgreens in the auto section, and no chopping. :)
  14. I have a 03 S and an 06 S, I really like the bells and whistles on the 06, but it is a heaver car I think. what about GVW V/S BHP? I don't know what the 07 weight is, but probably heaver that the 06. I have an 07 on order that wife wants , I just hope I don't like it more that mine. Ouch
