Hi I am new to the site and I must say that it has been quite infomative. A friend of mine has ask me to change the front fenders and hood on a 2001 996 to a carbon fiber hood and fenders, well my problem is the removal of the fenders I have 98% of the fasteners out but seem to be stuck is there a diagram showing all the fasteners...
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Aaron
Hope this helps...I would have to scan my boxster manual to get the written explaination...

I can't help you with those, but I can tell you that I put on the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics and they are fantastic tires. I am really impressed with them both on dry and on wet.
I like the Falken RT-615's. And perfect for temps from 0C to 30C. Well zero might be a little low but i got to use them as snow tires this past winter and I am still around to talk about it. Like them 1000 times more than my Michelin Pilot's.

Hey guys,
In regard to my '04 Boxster, I have noticed that when I have the top down and go to set the alarm
after locking the center console, I get a single horn beep fault upon setting the alarm.
Is it normal for this to occur, or do I have a alarm fault at the center console lock??
Thanks!
A single beep means that one alarm zone is open.
Without the Durametric Software, a PST2 or PIWIS tester you are just guessing.
If were to guess I'd say the center console being open is the most common.
How many zones are there? And what are they?

So about $380 USD each..just the parts?! Sheesh!! Wow.
My 3rd radiator kit (for my 996) was about $400 in 2000. I thought that was a great deal because when I added up the parts priced individually they were over $600.
So, I still think a price under $400 is very good.
Got the center radiator on Ebay for $100 plus $20 for shipping and then got all the rest of the parts from the sponsor of this web site...for $232.
So for $352 i have all that's needed for the conversion. Oh maybe another $10 for a screen and trim. My bumper doesn't have the cutout.

Hello,
I have a grey interior and my leather seats look a bit beat. I was wondering if anyone has put black sport seats in a grey interior? And if this seems to be an odd combination.
Pictures of this combination would be helpful.
Thanks,
Art
Here is an older car with mix and match interior.

What was the airbag fault code(s)? (there are TSBs on specific codes).
Where do I find the codes?
thanks
MCL isn't really noted for their customer service. But with that said either the part is under warrenty or it isn't. Sometimes they might make an exception if you are a good customer. But good to MCL is that you buy 4 cars a year. You might want to take the car over to Weissach and get them to get your codes and make sure you do in fact have a problem. And if they can't help you i'm sure Speedway will. Find out what parts you need and order them from the sponsor above. Get Stuart at Weissach to install them.
Good Luck

I just picked up a 2001 911 Cab Tip and have a few small problems. While I'm driving awhile, I hear a double chime. This happens every once in a while and no caution lights or gauges out of norm. I don't have a radio code. Where do I get the ser.# and if I need to pull the radio, how? It is a factory Porsche radio. How do I get a duplicate ignition key? Lots of questions, lots of time.
Do you have the owners manual? If not you can download one from this site and look for the double chime there.
Enjoy!

I don't have any knowledge on the hydraulic fittings. The current one just slides in and out and obviously does not hold. Do I need to replace the fittings or the entire assembly of hose and connector on the main line? Any help on part numbers? Thanks.
Maybe this will help.
We can get you the part number if you tell us which one is broken.
Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost the link above will be your best price.

Awesome write up!
Wish you were local.
Glad you liked it. Hope it was helpful. If you have a specific project just ask. :) :renntech:

Was this for real or an April Fools joke?
I don't think so - page 59 under Street Talk.
Ya, i also hear that the boxster cayman will use the Audi 4cyl turbo motor because Porsche is having a hard time meeting emmissions. And that a Deisel Boxster is in the works. Can you say 924?

How, exactly, would 4 ramps work? Really short ramps? Or are you just talking about using the ramps as jackstands?4 ramps or 4 jack stands - you really only need to raise the car a few inches for an oil change.Once, I was able to get both right wheels of my lawn tractor up on ramps to get to the blades easier, but that also involved lifting up the lawnmower to put the ramp under the rear wheel. I don't think I can lift my Porsche...
Car is stiff enough to jack up one side then stick the jack stands under the proper places and then go to the other side.
I am jacking the car up on the rail under the car. Just cut up a hockey puck and it works great.

About $125-150 including R&R of tire and repaint.
But I'd think you'd feel the vibration at lower speed or while braking if it was bent. (Just replaced 3 wheels on an Acura for about $160 each because they were bent)
I have been going through the same thing for a while. Speaking to Brad on another site he recommended checking the control arm bushings.
The wheel bearings are new, so are the rotors, wheels and tires. Just had the wheels balanced again and that did nothing.
Told to find some shop that had a ON CAR WHEEL BALANCER. Just trying to find one now.
Or it could be the wheel hub. That can be checked with your wheel and brake rotor removed. So that will be next when i get time. Stay tuned....

I have a 2000 996 and a buddy with a 1995 993 C2. We both need to replace the suspension (springs, shocks, rubber pieces) as well as brakes. I have replaced the springs on mine (996) once so sort of know how to do it. Is the 993 pretty similar? I was thinking that we could do both of them in 1 day. Although it did take me about 11 hours to do mine the first time (by myself) that is because I had a pretty pesky rear mount that took 2 hours to get off (other side took about 45 minutes). Same with the front, first one took about an hour, the second about 30 minutes. A lot of cleaning and looking over things filled the rest of the time.
Anyone done both kinds of cars and care to respond, thanks. I have some power tools (compressor, air ratchet, impact wrench) and a low clearance floor jack.
Well both cars are Porsche but are quite different. Brakes should be no problem on either car. The 993 has the beautiful multi link rear suspension that is a work of art. I think it was way ahead of its time but i guess do to costs they no longer use it. Anyway hope these pics help...First two pics are 996 front then rear. And the last two are 993 Front and Rear.

Thanks Mike.
In Canada I am getting mixed signals about the Pilot Sport (not PS2). The Michelin.ca web site still lists them as an option for Boxsters. I ordered these from the dealer last week and they say that they have arrived from Michelin. I'm not comitted to buying them but have a booking for 2 weeks from now to have them installed. They insist these are Pilot Sport not PS2. Just trying to understand opinions on the difference between PS and Ribs (and PS2 for that matter).
Had the Pilot Sports but these tires i am 100% happy with. Falken 615. Not great in the snow but....

Thank you all, we never stop learn.

Don't wait till the wear indicator goes off. You never know if someone before you got rid of it.
My comfort level with the pads are about 1/2 of what you have there. Start going less and you could damage the rotor.
Periodically check your pads visually and don't rely on the light. Pad are cheap and they are easy to change.

Check the pouch in the front trunk near the spare tire - look for the key and/or the plastic bag with the number on it (it will be a 3 digit number). In a few rare cases a tech has hand written the key number on the option tag under the front hood.
If still no luck, then go to a dealer and ask them to try their keys until they find the right one. Once you have the number it is easy to order.
I couldn´t find the 3 digit number, and <I don´t have a Porsche dealer nearby. One tire shop lost the key, although they deny it. How can I take the security keys away? I suppose I have to break them, but how?
regards
Kare
Most tire shops know how to safely cut them off. Don't forget you will need four standard wheel bolts to replace them.
You can get a 3pc set from China Freight that will fit the Porsche Wheels and take the locking bolt off.
A friend of mine got stuck in the same situation as you.

I replaced the bushings and sperical bearings on all four corners of my 986S track car. I was installing solid stuff for track use, but the removal of the bushings would be the same regardless, of course.
Harbor Freight and other places have a tool for this. It looks like a big, heavy duty C clamp and comes with "cups" for the bushing to fall into. It works, but is a little awkward, and can be hard. I could get some bushings and bearings out this way, but got tired of it, and took the arms to a friend's house where he has a 20-ton shop press. With that thing and the "cups" with the kit, it was a cake walk to get the bushings out. I also used the 20 ton press to press in new stuff.
you might want to try:
Let me know if you find a US supplier...

The dealer talked me into replacing the two bolts that mount each caliper saying that they stretch and take a set once used. Says that they should not be used a second time! The Bentley Manual says nothing about replacing bolts, but the Porsche manual that I have on my PC says to!
These bolts are over 3/8" diameter and use 63 ft-lb torque. They mount into an aluminum structure.
Somehow, my seat of the pants engineering says this is overkill. If anything is getting stressed here it's the alumium parts and my wallet.
On top of this, I had to buy an allen driver to remove the old bolts. Now, the head on the new bolts takes a different driver!!!! Something else to buy! I don't even know the size or name of the thing!
Any knowledge or thoughts on this?
Bob
There is probably a .000001% chance that the bolts may fail from being torqued more than once and stretching etc...
The legal dept dictates a lot of what parts are replaced. Don't send your kids to law school.

First thing i would do is take off the front bumper and clean out the radiators.
If your bored maybe check your running lights, rear backup lights, third brake light etc... You will be sure to find at least one out.

I wonder if anyone can help me with a part number.
Can someone confirm if the part number for a 993 / Turbo (1995-1998) (C4/CABRIO) engine mount
Which is part number: 993-375-049-05-M100
Is the same as the transmission mount for a 986 Boxster S part number:
986-375-084-03-M100
986-375-083-03-M100
(Right / Left respectively) without the brackets, which are what make them right/left in the first place.
It is a 2x difference in cost and I'm sure my brackets are in fine shape.
If anyone can suggest a good source of the parts themselves (The 993 Cab parts as opposed to the expensive, yet readily available boxster parts.) I'd be grateful. They seem difficult to come by.
Has anyone performed this kind of maintenance substitution before?
Thanks.
Of course try the Sunset Porsche first but if you want a non-porsche part try this...

This may help. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ing+replacement
I actually contacted those guys and they do rent them out. However, when I called them earlier this week, there was a waiting list of 2 weeks. They could not confirm that the tool actually works on the boxster, but stated it had been rented by "several porsche guys" w/o any complaints, so the inference is that it does.
There is also a DIY on this site on removing your hubs. I couldn't find it but if you go to that link and contact the member who is refferred to there I'm sure he can help you
thanks, phillip, but I couldn't find the link either after searching w/various key words. are you sure it's on this site?
any luck Zappbranigan? I assume you found some solution :)
Where are you located?
PM me if you want to rent mine.

good morning, has anyone in the sfbay area tried replacing their top with one of the ones available on ebay? my son managed to shatter the plastic rear window. plastic vrs glass, how difficult was it to replace? tia jaime howell
The plastic windows can get old and will crack. Don't ever use windex on it or it will accelerate the brittleness. (Brittleness???)
You can get a whole new top on Ebay for $300 or less. Don't bother just replacing the window.
You will need some extra spare parts while you are doing the repair. Sunset can help you out there. The total time to re-re is 8hrs.
Less if you have done it before. Just make sure that the back is centered perfectly or the top will have wrinkels. Get some 3m spray glue as well and
go to Lowes and buy some double sided tape and foam trim.

Just picked up my 2006 911 S cab. As I am getting ready to order bumper plugs (previous owner put on front license plate, I prefer to leave it off so want to cover the holes) I want to make sure the car is really arctic silver as claimed by the dealer. Much to my surprise, the option sticker is not on the inside of the trunk lid ... is there any other place the paint code can be found on the car? What about the other options? Is there any place to find info on them on the car? If not, any other tips on how to get them? A, yes, don't have the original maintenance book ... story in and of itself ...
Thanks,
Jay
