  1. Hi there, had the same problem with my old c4s, it came from where the drain tubes push on to the sunroof channels, i think the sealer perishes, i dropped the headlining in the rear then just siliconed around the joins, and it worked fine for me, hope that helps regards Tim
  2. Hi all, just a quick moan about the ipod interface from NAV-TV based in the uk, think they also have a depot in the usa. Ever since the installation of this product it has caused me nothing but problems, constantly crashing (so you have to disconnect the whole unit and then reconnect, which also crashes your sat nav and screen) and the ipod connecting lead broke the second time it was used. I spoke to ALEX POWER their customer service rep who to be honest was an absolute discrace, refusing to send me a lead unless i paid for it, they wanted my old lead back first and then couldnt give me a delivery date for the new one, a situation i dont find acceptable when youve paid nearly £500, i said if that was his attitude i would write a post for renntech, he said go ahead, we dont sell many porsche ones anyway. SO TO ALL YOU PORSCHE OWNERS WHO ARE THINKING OF ADDING AN IPOD INTERFACE TO YOUR BELOVED PORSCHE, DO NOT BUY FROM THESE IDIOTS, THEY CLEARLY DONT VALUE OUR CUSTOM, I SUGGEST YOU TRY THEIR COMPETITORS THAT BEGIN WITH THE LETTERS DEN. :censored: :cursing:
  3. Hi Guys, just an update to all your threads, in the uk the part numbers that were stamped on the mounting brackets for an 00-04 my were as follows, 996.561.656.01 (right Bracket) and 996.561.655.01 (left bracket), if you try and search these part numbers in the uk or abroad the pet system doesnt recognise them for some reason, after reading your threads i bought a 996 hardtop off ebay in basalt black from a 2002 car for £102, amazing eh? i then went to a renouned porsche breakers who were breaking a 2003 carrera 4 cab and obtained the mounts for £100, however i was mindfull that the part numbers mentioned previously in this thread were different and as i said before when i tried to cross reference them with porsche they didnt exhist, so i just figured i would give it a try. I fitted the brackets which took about 40 mins then travelled 100 miles to pick the hardtop up. upon arrival the seller said to me ' didnt you read the advert, this will only fit a 996, youve had a wasted journey', i dropped the soft top and said to him lets fit the hardtop and to his amazement it fitted like a glove, he was gutted and claimed if he had of known it would fit a 997 he wouldnt have sold it with no reserve. In total including petrol to pick up the hardtop the whole job came to £223, the biggest bargain ever, and the colour of my car is basalt black, what a result, without your thread this would not have been possible, many thanks, well worth the contribution to the forum to see the fitting instructions too. :thankyou:
  4. Hi , just noticed your post, i have a uk spec 2006 997 c4 cab and you can operate the roof up or down at up to 40 mph as standard, no smart top fitted, thats how it came from the factory.
  5. Hi sam, depending on whether your car is 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive has a bearing on which unit is fitted, as on a four wheel drive car the unit sits vertically in the front boot area and if its a 2 wheel drive it lies horizontally, you can use either unit however if you use a 2 wheel drive unit in a 4 wheel drive car it cant read the disc properley as the unit is meant to lie horizontally and not vertically, and therefore the navigation will keep crashing, as for used units in the uk they fetch around £200-£400 sterling, in fact one sold in the uk on ebay on weds for £210 with no disc. i sold one with a disc for £240 last month, best to get one from a salvage yard so you know it hasnt been messed with prior to removal and hasnt been removed cos it was faulty, and has the original disc in it so you dont have to buy another and it will just plug and play, i have an 06 c4 cab and my nav drive packed in so i do have experience with this problem, and getting the right unit, i think there are 7 part number variations covering boxster cayman cayenne and 997, look on pelican parts.com on their parts diagrams and you will see the part numbers, find listed below part numbers i know exist for this unit as for whether it has bose or not doesnt make a difference to whether it works or not, Regards Tim  Part numbers (lhd = left hand drive , rhd = right hand drive) 997 642 135 03 997 642 135 04 997 642 137 02 turbo or 4wd rhd 997 642 139 02 rhd 997 642 157 00 lhd 997 642 157 01 lhd 997 642 159 01 rhd 997.642.141.10 is not for the BOSE option. 997.642.143.03 is for the BOSE option.

  7. :help: i wonder if you can help me, i am in the process of collecting the parts to convert my 997 c4 cab to turbo front (with led indicators). i now have all the parts i need , so i thought. i purchased a front turbo loom (front bumper loom) hoping i could just plug and play however there are no plugs for the 2 led control units ( 997.618 201 00). opc told me that they plug in to the other loom in the trunk or will need to be hacked in, have you any idea where i need to hack, and also where i might be able to get hold of a couple of plugs to plug and play, they have a vw audi part number 1J0 973 713, (have attached jpegs) and plug in to the led control units, have searched the site but amazingly cant find any threads ref this mod, someone somewhere must have done it, :help: Tim Holmes

  10. Hi Loren, Just had to put a new battery on my 2002 996 Carrera 4S manual with PCM and have no stereo or Nav as i dont have the security code . I have carefully removed the PCM Headunit but am not sure which serial number you require as there is 2, 1 on a Becker sticker and 1 on a Siemens sticker so i will provide data from both. Becker Sticker as follows. Type; IDIS Model No; BE 2580 Serial No; 25100699 Siemens Sticker as follows. Serial No; PO8150096218/01 Do hope you can help, Happy New Year Tim. :renntech:
  11. I would start by using a power bleeder to completely bleed the brakes and clutch (they use the same circuit). There is a DIY in the 996 DIY section. The fact that you can not get it into gear in first makes me think the clutch slave is not opening like it should - so bleeding would be first on my list. hi loren, thanks for your swift response, so am i right in assuming that the grinding sound may be down to the system in need of being bled, is it a possibility? the grinding happens more than the first gear problem, regards Tim
  12. Hi all, bought a 997 carrera 4 cabriolet 06my just out of warranty and all was going well. 2 weeks ago some slimeball tried to pinch my wheels by putting a jack under passenger side sill just in front of rear wheel arch area (right hand drive car) and missing jacking point, so when they attemted to jack car up it went straight thru plastic cover and thru the blue clutch pipe and brake vacuum pipe. i got a local porsche specialist to replace these items as porsche main dealer had a 2 week backlog in their workshop. after picking car up i noticed that when i changed in to 4th gear there was a grinding sound or if i changed down to 4th gear the same happened, however if i put my foot down on the clutch longer and dont rev the grinding doesnt happen. i have also struggled to get it in to 1st occasionally from standstill. i took the car back to the garage who replaced the pipes and they said it must be the gearbox however this didnt happen prior to the attempted wheel theft, i didnt notice someone had tried to steal my wheels untill the clutch pedal stuck down while i was driving the car, obviously the fluid had leaked thru the broken pipe, so a recovery truck had to pick me up and the car wasnt driven or a gearchange wasnt attempted, so could the new clutch pipe have a possible airlock in it or perhaps not have been bled properly, because i cant understand how my gearbox could be shot if i didnt change gear once the pedal stuck down, i couldnt even get it in to gear. i have also noticed the clutch pedal is lighter since the new pipe was fitted. i must point out that this has become a very stressfull problem, the thought of having to replace my gearbox sends a shiver down my spine as i am anticipating this could cost a small fortune, any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, many many thanks Tim.
  13. Loren, recently bought a 2002 02my carrera 4 s and im trying to get rid of the various creaks and knocking noises and have read many articles on the forum (absolute godsend). However i have a knocking noise that doesnt seem to have been covered before on the forum. On full lock (either side) i get a knocking noise which sounds like its coming from the bottom of the windsreen pillar area on both sides, not both at once but on right lock right side and left lock left side. as the noise seems to be in that kind of area could it be coming from top of shock absorber, are there any bushes that commonly need replacing ? its driving me mad and i think the neighbours are getting annoyed as the only way for me not to hear it is to turn the stereo up when i pull in to my driveway. Hope you can help, also when it rains water is leaking in thru my roof lining, could the drain holes be blocked for the sunroof ? if so can i do a diy fix on this and if so how, somebody told me that the drain plug pipe might have become disconected, is it easy to access this from the rear without dropping the roof lining, and if so how do i remove the bose subwoofer, hope im not gonna take up to much of your time with my requests, you and all the guys on here are classed as legends in the u.k, we would be lost without you, keep up the good work Kind Regards Tim. :renntech:
  14. rear lid is same length, the support panel below rear window is slimmer on a c4s than it is on a turbo and gt2, this panel can be changed so a turbo or gt2 lid can be fitted, also you will need to alter the airbox as the rams from the spoiler obstruct this, a corner will need to be trimmed off then rebonded to give the correct clearance, ramus porscha in west bromwich uk specialise in this conversion.
