  1. Just traded my 2008 Carrera S (6-speed) for a 2011 Boxster with PDK -- no complaints here. For 60% of my previous monthly note (lease), the car feels every bit as good to the Carrera if not better. The acceleration is outstanding, the chassis is incredible rigid for a convertible and the handling is so much more "user-friendly". I would love to compare the Boxster to a 911 in the track and I believe the Boxster would win. Just my 0.02
  2. Have yet to find a solution -- AUTO mode is out of the question... Just redirecting air with arrows to front only appear to do the trick. This seems to defeat the purpose of AUTO operation ?? Maybe it works well in Stuttgart :P
  3. Hello guys, Just a simple, maybe trivial question. I currently own a 2008 Carrera S. I am having issues with condensation outside of my windshield (lower areas) when running my AC. I also noticed the same problem on my previous 996 C4S. All my other cars do not do this; I have tried AUTO setting, changing vents, etc. The only solution seems to redirect air completely to my feet but this doesn't seem to work very well when it is warm and muggy. Any input is appreciated.
  4. The pipes are different size -- outer pipes are larger than inner ones. Sound is intoxicating isn't it? I find myself hitting the sport button now every time I drive this car. Enjoy your new ride.
  5. Moving from a 996 C4S to a 997 Carrera S I can tell you that the AWD cars drive differently. They have a heavier "tank" feel than the RWD cars IMHO. I would think this would be more fun at the track personally, although I am no expert. On the street I am liking the RWD car much better (especially PASM!!) but then again we see no wintry stuff where I live. Good luck on your quest.
  6. Congratulations on the new ride. Becoming a contributing member is a great idea in order to have access to all the site has to offer. Before installing the sat radio consider just doing an ipod installation (especially if car is not a daily driver). Take care.
  7. As posted earlier I picked up my new Carrera S about a month ago. Overall, an amazing car and enjoying it thoroughly. However, I began noticing a creaking noise coming from the left rear window noticed only when going over bumpy roads. I had my poor girlfriend ride in the back pressing on the window and of course all noises were gone. I contacted my dealer in regards to this issue and they informed me that the rubber seal may be faulty and replaced it under warranty. I got the car back yesterday when the temp was in the 50's and things were peachy -- no noises whatsoever. BUT, later that night, as the car had been sitting in cold temperatures, I noticed that annoying sound again. Is this normal?? This is my second 911 and am well aware of noises on our babies but with less than 500 miles is kinda silly IMHO. Would love to know if any of you have had this same problem and what fixes are available.
  8. Thanks for the insight guys. I will stay clear from over revving -- keeping at 4500 rpm or below for now  Will put as many miles as I can next month!! :D
  9. I hear you Loren but 2 to 3 thousand miles?? Seems a bit excessive!
  10. A simple poll on what you guys think is an "adequate" break-in period for my new car. I am trying to keep revs at <4500 rpm and have not exceeded 100 mph (well at least not for a long period of time :) ). I have signed up for a driving school in March at a race track but my car currently only has 160 miles on it... How many miles would you feel comfortable with on the odometer to really enjoy the car at the track? Thanks
  11. Thanks for the feedback guys! I really like the Sport Wheels quite a bit as well :) I took the car for some "exercising" around some mountain roads and really enjoyed it. I am SO impressed with the sport function and the ability to "lose" the tail whenever the car is pushed and the increased sensitvity of the throttle. The sport exhaust note does not hurt either! I am looking forward to racking some miles to let her rev in the 6k rpm range!!!
  12. Thanks guys! Took the car for a little exercise today -- very very impressed. The throttle response is superb and I really like the note of the sport exhaust better than my old C4s. Also what an improvement on the lighting department with the bixenons. Definitely an updgrade from previous car but these xenons are much better than any car I own (including Audis and BMW's). Will keep you all posted of my progress and experiences.
  13. Hello guys! My new car is finally here!! I got a great deal on a 2008 model Carrera S. I will try to upload some pics as well. Love the car! Unfortunately I picked it up and had to go out of town the next day so not much play time yet. Can't wait to put some miles to let it rip...
  14. Well guys, it looks like the time has come to upgrade my 996 C4S to a 997 Carrera S. I really liked the feel of the new car much better, and the PASM really makes the car much more livable. I am looking at buying an 08 model (as it seems the dealers are more anxious to get rid of them, read much better dealing). I have a question in regards to the clearance of the front bumper as compared to my 03 Carrera 4S. I have a fairly steep driveway that my 996 4S goes up with no problems. Is the Carrera S much lower? Any knowledge will, as always, be greatly appreciated.
  15. I agree -- the light that came on was the less ominous "failure indicator". The funny thing is that I drove the dickens out the car today and nothing came on... ran perfectly with new Potenzas-- awesome :)
  16. Thanks Loren but do is the car safe to drive to Porsche dealer; any ideas of what may be wrong off the top of your head?
  17. Hey guys! Driving my C4S today the "oil failure" code came on, losing the reading on the oil pressure gauge -- lasted for about 30-60 seconds and then the pressure reading came back to normal. It did this one more time before I came home. I check the oil level and it's OK. Is this a bad sensor?? or could this be something more serious that needs immediate attention? I asked because this is a car that I don't drive very much and also CPO warranty is almost done. Thanks
  18. I agree... ride with 18 inch wheels (and at least Pirelli P-Zeros) is punishing enough on the bad roads we have in the US. Any input from someone reading this forum on the most "comfortable tire" available for 18 in wheels (ie best ride on bumps, pavement joints, etc) ??
  19. A question that probably has been answered but couldn't find it with search engine. What is reasonable oil consumption on a 2003 Carrera 4S-- I had the oil (and RMS :( seal under CPO warranty) about 4k miles ago and when I check oil level with "electronic dipstick" on the dashboard, it only measures about one little bar from the lowest level (no low oil level yet). Is this normal or is my car consuming too much oil? The car only has 17k miles currently but is driven like the Porsche god meant... hard. Thanks for your input guys.
  20. I own a 2003 C4S (CPO) and so far no problems (except the RMS which was repaired under warranty). I have put over 8000 miles without any problems. I don't read Consumer Reports as they are always biased against the cars I like -- unless of course you like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord :P My advise-- get the 03 C4S and drive the hell out of it. If this is your first P-car (as it was for me) I would suggest a CPO one just to "lose the fear". They are very fun cars (of course with their own idiosyncracies) and yes they are expensive to fix when stuff goes bad -- but that's the price to pay to be part of the club. Enjoy
  21. Thanks guys! I drive a big car that's plush (Audi A8L) and everytime I drive the C4S the noises and rattles seem louder!! All in all, I love the car and enjoy driving it immensely. Looking forward to Skip Barber driving school this spring :D
  22. Hey guys! I am having a rattling issue with my 02 C4S coming mainly from passenger seat-- noise is gone when someone sitting down. Any quick fixes? Thanks all :renntech:
  23. 19 inch wheels in your C4S? Wow you must like a harsh ride if you drive the car as a daily driver... Mine has the stock 18in wheels and I tend to drive it pretty much a lot... however the ride over rough roads is punishing with the 18's. I am even more biased b/c I just bought an Audi A8L that seems to be coasting on air, so it makes it even more obvious. Plus, there is something to be said about keeping things stock for looks... stick with 18's that your car came with, it will look better IMHO.
