  2. I had the standard seats in my 2001 c2 6spd, and they were about the only seats I had that did not give me any back pain. I bought the car in 2004 and it had 20k on it so I beleive that after 3 years that they may have just been broken in. I traded in the car for a new 2004 which has the sport seats and after 2 weeks of adjustment, they feel ok but I am left with pain in the back of my lower neck. Hope its just a breakin issue. I wish I could find out what the difference between the two are but all I can find is "its the seat back". I like to know if they removed padding, change the seat frame shape etc. I tried to find info on the lear site but came up with nothing. stan
  3. I have a 2004 c2 6spd and have the alum faced gauges. I would like to change them out with the black factory face gauges. Can anyone tell me were to find a set? Also the cluster in the pictures look like a Boxter, is the 911 the same as far as install goes? stan
  4. Hi All, Does anyone know the exact difference between the Sport seats and the regular seats on a 2004 c2 996? Is there a difference in the back frame, seat track and adjustment, etc. Or is it just the bat wings. Also is there a difference in steering wheel diameter and height position between a 2001 and a 2004 996? The 2001 wheel had 4 spokes. Also what are the differeces between a stock 6spd shifter and the optional sport shifter on a 2004 996? Height, throw, effort,etc. Thanks, Stan
  5. Hi Chris, I thought of that as well. The only easy way I could come up with is to add a air control valve with a vacuum pilot control. It would work, but at 35mph the sport exhaust would kick in( system would be reversed). I did not want to modify the electical circuit for the 35 mile cutout so I did not pursue this direction.The nice thing about this approach is all you would do is change the vacuum lines. Easy to go back to stock. Stan
  6. The switch I believe is just a normal open contact and sets a relay to operate the sport exhaust valve. If it did work you would default to the quiet mode but at the 35 miles mark your sport exhaust would kick in. Hey that might not be to bad. Stan
  7. Well I did the mod and it turned out great. I can see now why everyone is doing the electrical mod on the 35 mile cut off of the sport mode. To set the exhaust in the sport mode, you remove the vacuum line from the solenoid and plug the solenoid port with a female 5/32 plug to prevent manifold vacuum loss when the computer turns on the solenoid. Be sure to twist the hose to break the seal and be careful when you pull the hose off as the solenoid looks like it is plastic. You can try this before you do the electrical mod to see if it makes a difference to you. To set the exhaust in the quiet mode you would remove both lines from the solenoid and connect them together with a 5/32 straight fitting and plug both ports on the solenoid with 5/32 plugs to prevent dust from entering the valve. I prefer this setting as I like the mechanical sound of the engine. I also noticed that when you drive around with the switch set in the quiet mode, the control valve solenoid gets very hot. The problem with this set up is that your switch is bypassed and to change back takes a whopping 30 seconds. If you have the sport exhaust without the electrical and vacuum set up you can run a vacuum line from the manifold to the mufflers, add a simple hand valve and have both modes available to you. If you run lines to the muffler, I would pick up the stainless steel braided lines from Porsche or at a speed shop etc. Stan
  8. Thanks Loren, I did the search and come up with this simple solution that takes a manual approach. Let me know if I am wrong, If you have the full system with the switch, to have the sport exhaust on all the time you would remove the air line at the solenoid that goes to both muffler air valves and plug the solenoid port. This cuts the vacuum to the air valves so the 35 mile cut off is also gone also. You need to plug the solenoid to prevent manifold vacuum loss. If you remove both lines from the solenoid and connect them together you will supply vacuum to the air valves at all times and the muffler will be set in the quiet mode at all times. The problem is the dash switch will not do anything and if you want to change the setting, you have to reroute the vacuum lines which should take about 30 seconds. You should buy female plugs and cover any open port to prevent dust from entering the system. Cost of this mod should be about a buck or two. What do you think?

  10. I have a question on the operation of the sport exhaust. When you start the car the sport exhaust is defaulted on, and you may turn it off with the dash rocker switch. When you restart the car the sport exhaust is defaulted on again. Now the question is can the system be reversed so you have to press the rocker to turn on the sport exhaust, or what would be the easiest way to have the sport exhaust off all the time (remove vacum lines)?   11. Thanks Inx, I Like the new body style alot, and changing out the clear protector plastic is a small price to pay. The lighter steering would be great.I like the 966 interior better, but the 977 is also nice. Would prefer all the plastic to be black. Stan
  12. vdell, Its hard to come to any opinion on a test ride when the dealers have you make 4 right turns and you are back at the dealership. Just curious if someone who owned a 996 traded in for a 997 and what they think. Thanks, Stan

Hello all, I am looking at a 997 and have a few questions. 1) How does the 997 track and steer compared to the 996? 2) How does the 997 brakes compair? 3) Is seating position about the same( View to hood sides etc.) ? 4) 6spd shifter feel and effort ( standard shifter) ? 5) I see Porsche puts on protective plastic on the rear quarter panel in front of the rear wheel for stone protection, anyone notice a lot of stone hits? 6) What do you feel is the most major improvement made? I have a 2001 996 C2 6 spd with 30K and 1 year left on the porsche extended warr. . If I go for the 997 I would like to order one and most dealers tell me 6 months if they can even do it. I am looking at a brand new 2004 C2 6spd and have a few questions about options that the car has. 1)What is 030 sport chassis? 2)What is Y29 Aluminum\Leather X71\X70\X54. 3)What is Y06 Alum\Lthr Shifter\Brake handle. 4) What is CPT Storage Lid Bin w\ porsche crst. I have a 01 C2 6spd for a trade, but with 30K miles on it and 2 years left on the Porsche cert. warr. it would be a tough thing to do. I like the 996 model enough to do this. Thanks, Stan

  18. When should the coolant hoses be changed? I watched Motor Week last night and they were saying 4 years or 60K. I think I read that our coolant is good for 100K. How many hoses are their and what are there locations? Thanks, Stan 2001 6spd 996 30K
  19. Good morning All, I agree with Dean. I to purchased the kit and was not impressed. The wash mit turned almost black, and after about 20 washes with my normal Zymol wash the mit is still black!!! Also the product smells real strong to the point of my wife not wanting to go for a ride after I finished washing the car. The only regret is I though the stuff in the garabage instead of returning it for my money back. It did dry with no spots as advertised. Stan
  20. I thought the same, but manual said to change 60k or 4 years and Dec. the car is 4 years old.Easier to change in the garage when the temp. is 75 then 0 degrees. This is a good idea as the plugs came out rough, the new ones threaded in real smooth. Stan
  21. I forgot to ask is the plug wire extension just pushed on? Does the new coil come with the extension that fits over the plug? To remove, should I twist and pull? Thanks again. Stan

  23. Good morning all, I changed the spark plugs on my 2001 996 c2 this weekend and have a question. When I removed one of the plug coils I noticed that there was a crack in the plastic molded housing at the seam. It still works as I get no missing and the spark plug looks good. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this and should I replace it? Is this covered under warr? I have 26K. Thanks
  24. You should turn your A/C on and wait a few minutes and the electric fans should turn on. You should then hear and feel air being drawn in through the front bumper opening on both sides, as there are radiators and fans on each side. Possible one fan is not working. I also have A 2001 c2 and I run in the center of the o on the 180 mark most of the time at temperatures under 90F. Stan
