  1. Your car looks great. I did not consider the tinted windows, but I guess that here in OC they might do a good service. It is always so hot! I have a problem with the top and depending what they find out I might look into replacing it. I also might consider the glass version, at http://www.gahh.com/product_info.php?cPath...roducts_id=1575. A couple of people that got it say good things if you can live with the smaller size. We'll see :)
  2. Hello all, I was wondering if anybody has a clue about the huge price differences between what it looks like two good quality tops. One, made by GAHH, goes for $1,200 and up while the other, made by Topsonline is only $550. From the little I have read om them both are decent or better. It does not make a lot of sense. Am I missing something? You can find the GAHH at http://www.gahh.com/product_info.php?cPath...products_id=301 You can find the Topsonline at... http://www.topsonline.com/index.php?Depart...;CarmodelID=888
  3. can you give me the part number? I think I might get them myself. I would need the DIY as well.
  4. Have you tried Mguiar's NEXT wax? I have and looks good to me, and easy to apply. But, I am a newbie so I had not compared with other waxes yet. I have the feeling that it wears off quicker than harder waxes, It only makes sense.
  5. Well... they are family... and to be honest, they did a great job painting the car. It is my fault if any since I shoveled up their throats. They are good, you would recognize them from one of those TV programs..... Besides, with the savings of painting it elsewhere, i can probably replace the whole top too.
  6. No, the emergency brake does not come on. What you say makes sense. After all, I know the folks that painted the car, did pull the top up manually... who knows how hard they pulled or not.
  7. Hi folks, After having smashed my left side mirror, I asked in the forums where I could purchase one. Loren pointed me in the right direction (thanks so much Loren), and I took the car to a shop that build hot-rods. They did a great job reinstalling the mirror, and repainting the door and front left panels, matching the difficult artic silver paint and all for a fraction of the cost of a paint job at any other shop. BUT!... the top doesn't want to work now: - I know they had problems with the sequence of removing the battery and other nuisances that I am quickly learning are particular to the 996 (please keep in mind that I am new to the Porsche world and therefore ignorant myself). - When I try to open the top, pressing the top down button... the central hook disengages... and the windows go down. But the hood stays in place. - When I try to "close" the top, the central hook engages... and the windows go DOWN again instead of going UP, if I had pulled them up via the windows' switches. And, the top does not move. - The "top open" red light on the dashboard is on all the time. - There is a "clunk" noise when I go though bumps somewhere in the rear somewhere (could it be that there is a piece that pulls from the top and they did not attach it properly, therefore is loose making noise?) - Before taking the car to a dealer, or reputable mechanic, I wonder if there is anything to look for, and that due to my lack of knowledge I am not aware of. Any suggestions please?
  8. I have 19"s. No problem here. Pretty much as hard as 18's. As tires, I did find out that Toyos are definitively much quieter than Yokos or Michelin. Very quiet, and cheaper and last longer.
  9. Well, trying to fix a side mirror that broke on my 99 cab. In the process, the following happened: Since I did not have the car keys at the time (wife had them) I decided to lift the cab top manually, using the manual way as shown in the car's manual. That worked fine. But then, when trying to bring the hood back again using the switch... it did not work. I forgot to mention that in between, the battery was disconnected to mess with the mirror.... Any suggestions for this novice DIY fellow? :cursing:
  10. Sadly enough, someone hit my left side mirror two days ago, and now I have to replace it. They also scratched the driver's door. That means that I am looking at a door paint job at least. I saw that the only mirrors parts that need to be replaced, are the housing and the glass itself. I found them at www.pelicanparts.com. Is there any other place to get them as an alternative? I am trying to avoid the dealer by any means. The door will be repainted... luckily by a non dealer that can match the paint in the car. Thanks,
