  1. Understood! Durametric will be enroute. I'll also order the mounts. If my fixes start running into quad-zero range I'll consider another vehicle to be certain. I'm fantasizing that the C4 964 will suffice. I'll add that as a stay at home dad I'm not a commuter and thankfully don't live in the car. I don't want to get stuck somewhere either! The durametric should have happened long ago. I have never touched my MAFs or TB ever!
  2. Supposedly was smoke tested and I am getting the durametric asap. See above comment by Wv as I'm seeking to understand not just repair. These are tough 4x4s and should be in service well past 125k mi as I have on mine. Just want a bit nicer idle.
  3. I do not share your sentiments regarding replacement. Why spend way more money when all I would likely buy is a CTTS later production date. Far cheaper to be happy with what I have and fix as necessary. Two project cars and two drivers are enough. Being able to do it myself is fun and if it's near impossible without serious intervention, well that's zero fun! I do want that durametric though. I do love the 2010 CTTS just not worth spending on it now with a toddler in private school, etc. What for? I love this car, and it's fast as hell plus looks great. I can and have hunted from it and wheeled it.
  4. The engine must be removed on the Cayenne Turbo (M48/50) → 100119 Removing and installing V8 4.5 l engine - section on "Removing". The turbochargers are removed next. → 213021 Removing turbocharger - section on "Removing" [9PAAF1 9PAAJ1]→ 213021 21 Removing turbocharger - section on "Removing" [9PAAE1 9PAAE7
  5. I wish this was something I could tackle as I have access to everything via a friend's shop. Is there a TSB or Porsche guide here for engine or tranny mounts? I've downloaded all I find relevant. The subframe must drop and engine raise to replace the mounts....the idle drop while coming to a stop is one thing but at startup?
  6. For sure mounts are next but my understanding is that the process is lengthy and onerous.
  7. Hey man! Certainly would have but that's no fun. I wouldn't rebuild my Carrera 4 '89 chassis back into a usable state (bought it w/o engine) if I wasn't willing to spend money and fiddle with things. it's more a function of having a reliable mechanic become unreliable. I need to get back to my BMW days and self-diagnose more, Hence purchasing a high-quality diagnostic tool. regardless, I felt I had gone in the right direction and the feel of the vehicle was positive, now I'm not so much. I'm still voting for vacuum leaks.
  8. I have now changed everything but starter, injectors and motor mounts. You name it, I've replaced it. Vacuum lines, plugs/coils, the entire fuel delivery system.....and we are back to square one of start the car, if it starts on the first try, and there's a massive RPM drop immediately after the engine busts off like the thing is going to die, accompanied by a huge shiver of the motor, then smoothing out of idle. Replacing my torque arm mount initially mitigated this, and each subsequent ignition change really helped. But, just in time for Halloween, the ghost has returned. Now what? The only thing I can think of is break down and buy a Durametric and laptop and start looking for more vacuum leaks at the intakes and throttle body, etc......so frustrating. My mechanic is saying I need a new starter. He also seems to only want 8+ hour jobs from me......bad sign.
  9. My mechanic got it all hooked up properly despite my efforts in Aug-Sept. Car drives great but the idle sucks at times and acceleration is awesome. Wish the **** car idled smoothly. I'm thinking could still be a vacuum leak or the MAFS.
  10. YES. I say reach and replace the mounts! Somebody can pull this off. still doesn't explain the burbling idle.....
  11. I've replaced literally everything. Coils and plugs, both fuel pumps, filter and pressure regulator flanges, all the vac lines running to the booster, even behind the engine cowl and I still have a trembling idle and the vibration while coming to a stop. I'm sitting in the car parked right now typing this and the idle is somewhat rough. I did the throttlebody reset just a bit ago so we'll see how that does. Even with all this work done to the car I'm still not getting 100% reliable starting.
  12. I'm in Dallas and would love some help. I've been at it awhile. I'm in Uptown.
  13. I'm still ****ed on this. One line won't stop blowing off the fuel filter flange with a whoosh! This line barely clicks on the flange btw. I've run the tank way down so I can clearly discern what's what. The **** is getting old. Dealer wants $300 just to look. Sonnen is on holiday and their stand in parts guy is terrible beyond belief. I'm on the verge of extreme frustration. Today I looked at my order from late July and there's no confusion there. 2 pumps, two flanges, 2 gaskets, and the adapter that isn't useful. All hoses are sized so there's not variation in how to connect everything. Engine does after startup. Remove fuse for primary pump and engine runs. (throws hands up in air and reaches for wallet)
  14. I'm still struggling with my install of two new pumps and two new flanges and primary keeps dying.....although no longer is the line blowing off the flange on drivers side . I don't know if I have the wrong parts or what. My guy at Sonnen is incommunicado. I'll open the car back up tomorrow morning and take another look. I'm convinced I have something hooked up wrong despite all hoses being size-fitted, so you can't mix anything up.
  15. I've done this w/o issue. Actually in order to r/r both pumps and flanges. Sure helps NOT to have but an inch of petrol in the tanque. Whats the issue with below .25 tank?
  16. I've transplanted my worn out key guys and blade to a nice knockoff housing and it worked perfectly....ONCE. Now everything on the fob still illuminates, etc., but the car doesn't react! What the heck is going on ? Have any industrious folks out there cobbled together a key as I did? I basically pulled the original key apart once it was fairly thrashed so I had the PcB and blade in a bag then noticed these very high quality housings. Well, it was an easy procedure to assemble it all and it freaking worked. I don't get it.....
  17. Got everything from Sonnen today and I made a very basic error. It will be remedied. Stay tuned.
  18. Sunset can't figure out the VAG connector. Spoke to Sonnen who referred me to the local dealer for parts warranty on the defective coupling on the fuel pump. Local dealer wants $155 diag plus an hour of labor $165 to decide if it's a warranty issue. As I installed it and not Porsche this is all they'll do. I called Sonnen back and asked what I could do. They asked for photos of the non-functioning connector and would decide then exchange the part under warranty.
  19. I'm selling off an expensive 4wd project and am looking for a rolling chassis 964 coupe, C2 ideally as I'm in TX, and ultimately an engine to rebuild over time. I plan to drive the car. Current mkt being what it is for these vehicles should I even try, or just get the entire project and slowly chew away at it. My Landcruiser resto and build took up too much room and I have wife's blessing to start the search for a decent 964 to rebuild and pass to my son. I guess I'm saying hello, I'll be bugging y'all, and can you point me in the direction of getting started with these marvelous cars? THANKS!
  20. I pulled everything apart again and peeked in the primary side. It appears I did have a severely crimped line (which was much smaller in diameter). I installed the angled adapter to that line in order to alleviate the sharp 90 crimp running from pump to fuel pressure regulator. Problem number two is the line running from the pump to the fuel pressure regulator which is larger in diameter continuously blows off its fitting. When you start the car you can literally hear it blow off the fitting with a whoosh sound. When you replace it it does not click and lock in place, it can be pulled off the collared fitting beneath the fuel pressure regulator. That's a new one. Somehow a brand-new hose does not lock in the place, I'm at a loss, and I'm not sure this is something that can be purchased separately, but rather only as part of the primary pump. The last insane thought I had was perhaps this line somehow should run to the secondary pump as it seems awfully long to merely travel from the primary pump to the fuel pressure regulator. Experts weigh in. The good news is I can now do this with my eyes closed…
  21. Well..... I filled up today and we are back to square one sputtering and dying again. This is exactly what happened when I filled the tank full last time. And again a full tank shows only three quarters full so one of the floats must be pinned down. FML. What do I do first?
  22. Calling Sunset/Sonnen to order that VAG connector and pins. ECS had the removal tool for $14. Gonna use it on my upcoming 964 project I'm sure. Feeling like ordering the front lower control arms as well and installing them.
