  1. You are joking right? Jeez I hope that wasn't a dealer... not a dealer, but a porsche only shop recommended by local club members... when I asked about it they didn't miss a beat "Oh, you need the e-gas for that" thanks.... now I need to find a new shop! :cursing: so this is how blondes feel
  2. I was told you need the E-Gas for this feature... so maybe that and the memory seats together?
  3. I got my 996 in May and have been using it as my daily driver ever since. She is a great daily car- Comfortable Reliable Great A/C Even my 87 year old grandmother says it is a comfortable ride... and if you knew my grandma, that is definitely saying something about the ride. I have put about 5k miles on it... and my MPG is right around 15-18... and that is driving like it is stolen every chance I get. I am sure if I babied it I could get into the low to mid 20s on MPG... I still have just under 60K on the odometer, so can't talk about the high mileage reliability I did pay just over 30K... knowing what I know now I could've got for maybe 27 or 28... but I am not going to lose any sleep over it. Good luck... where you been looking?
  4. I think my sunroof leaks... and Captain Obvious suspects that main seal around the opening. I got the car on Cinco De Mayo, and only a few weeks ago I noticed the headliner showed signs of a leak just aft of the sunroof opening... I passed it off as something I didn't notice until one night I had the seat way back and just looking up at the roof for several minutes. But, as I have washed the car a few times since then, I think the stain is spreading. So, my questions to the board are: Is the obvious seal a likely culprit? Is it easily replaced? Then, once I confirm that is fixed- How difficult is the headliner to replace? what is the ballpark price on headliners? Thanks
  5. correct me if I'm wrong... but aren't the specs on the newer pcars show the tips faster than the manuals all around...
  6. same thing happened to me last halloween.... except the other driver was a car load of 22 year old girls. I got to deal with them and the cops while I was wearing my 'blind referee' outfit... priceless. my car was totaled (same smash on the right front-- tore the chassis apart. The early 90s camry barely had a dent. good news is I got a 996 for my next car! But as someone else mentioned... Show the insurance co all your receipts. They should give you value of your car plus the receipts from my understanding of things. Also- see if you can by the wrekced car from them... you want to sell the wheels and tires? what kind of rubber they wearing?
  7. Thanks for the info guys... The sides do look different, but I think it is just that on one side a significant piece is gone, while the other side is intact... Thanks to OrientExpress's gallery I can tell pretty well what is going on. I just wish the bottom of my front bumper was as clean as yours... the guy before me must have loved feeling his way into parking spots (as is obvious by the curb rash on my right rear tire... that will be next week's episode boys and girls)
  8. guys, on my new (to me) 99 996 C2, under the front of the car there are several aerodynamic type pieces... (lay on your back and look up under the front bumper) Well, the left side seems significantly different than the other.... One side as smaller pieces to duct air around, other side has less, but larger pieces. Are there diagrams or anyone of pictures available? One of these pieces is broken, and I think I hear it flapping at high speed. Looks easy enough to replace, but what are they and how much?
  9. Well, I have tried the method suggested to calculate MPG.. .and this last tank I did about 17.5mpg. This is 50/50 highway/street. So, not quite as bad as I thought, and I am still not turning down any available high speed runs... so should get better as I mature. Also, anyone know if the A/C has a huge difference? or just a few percent?
  10. Hi all, new owner of a 99 996. As I have been getting used to the squeaks I can't help but notice I am at the gas pump every couple days. On the tank I have now, I have about 100 miles so far, with the tank showing about half left. How much does the A/C hurt the mileage? I understand it will hurt some, but this is crazy. And, if the little snowflake is not showing on the controls, does that mean the compressor is not on? Is this normal? I used to own a 64 cadillac, and she didn't seem as thirsty as this girl.
  11. New owner of a 99 996 here... now I need to find a mechanic. Anyone have any recommendations? I would prefer North OC/ Anaheim area. I am sure the dealer in Newport is going to be way overpriced... so any pointers are welcome.
