  1. Dale; I had been searching since dec. for a black/black top on eBay, had them send notifications for both "hardtop" and "hard top" as spelling affected search results, and of the couple of dozen posted over 5+ months that quoted shipping $250. was best I saw. $400. was most often quoted. I found mine in Orlando and drove over to Winter Park Imports where TJ, a great guy, supplied the hardware from the donor car and installed it for me. As you may know the two twist lock retainers and required special pinch bolts are nearly $100. so get them if you can. Look at it this way, its a beautiful drive this time of year and any excuse to exercise the 986 is a good one. Good luck guy, I really like the new top, improves A/C performance quite a bit.
  2. Tool Pants; As a follow up FYI, the part that failed is 986 605 115 01. failure code P-1502.
  3. macsak; I had not noticed that effect, we have had little rain here thus far this spring, and of course the car is parked covered and with a car cover (anal). Also, I suppose, it may be due to the fact that I nearly always wax after washing. So I guess as with most products its the results you seek that make it worthwhile or not.
  4. IMO...This product works as advertised! My '00 x3 black 986 is a tough car to wash w/o waterspots in the Florida heat, but the "AutoDry" cured that problem. If there is a downside it is that the "Pur" filter has a relatively short life; but of course that has more to do with the quality of the water than any short coming of the unit. I will NOT use car wash's and my back/bones are thrilled I no longer rush around with my "WaterBlade" and chamois...and with the online coupon we're talk'n $13.00 for the starter kit!...CHEAP.
  5. I discovered this site when I was researching what was required to add a hardtop to my x3Black '00/986. :) Good News: Found the info on "ppbb", and the top on eBay for a reasonable $1230. w/hardware, from a very helpful seller in Orlando Fl (TJ @Winter Park Imports)who installed the hardware/top gratis. :( Bad News: "Blakbox" would not run with the hardtop! Huh? Yep! Hard start, no rev's, idle along in "limp in" at 15mph/ 5 miles to Orlando Porsche! :) Good News: met service mgr. Jim, and a very sharp tech Sean who correctly surmised,(later confirmed by diagnostic scan), that the potentiometer/throttle body had failed. :D Best News?: covered by warranty, as was the rental car to get me 110 mi. home. Vehicle fixed overnight! :clapping: Thanks to all at Orlando Porsche, and to ALL techs and service personnel who commit themselves to continuing education and provide such professional customer satisfaction. So Tool Pants, how did the hardtop kill the ttl.body?... just kidding!
  6. Howdy Tool Pants; I've been reading posts here and elsewhere on 'net re: the RMS failure's. I realize that if the problem is one of design and/or assembly of the engine that the type of transmission should not effect the rate of failures, however is this true in the field? I'm wondering if crank end play and how pressure is applied and relaxed to it has caused manual trans units to exhibit more failures than tip's. Thank you for your consideration.
