  1. Hello,

The past 3 fillups or so, I have been experiencing the fuel pump fillers cutting every few gallons out when filling my '99 C2. Any one else experienced this? Everything was fine before. I've tried different gas stations, it's not just one bad pump. I'm guessing some breather tube is blocked or something? The car is running completely normally.

    Thanks,

    -James.

  2. Thank you very much for the advice, guys. Sounds exactly like what you described, perryinva. I really thought it was some sort of filter / foam, but it sounds just like the black mold you describe. Wow, maybe that's what's affecting my girlfriends bronchitis too..

So, it's not something I could do in a saturday morning, to get at the evap and clean it all out? Would a normal a/c service place be best to take it to, or should it go to a Porsche specialist, or a P dealer?

    Thanks again,

    -James.

  3. My '99 C2 is blowing some sort of disintegrated filter out of the vents when the fans are cranked. Any one else seen this? It's small peices (maybe 1cm x 3mm bits) of a black material. It's been happening since I got the car, and doesn't show any sign of stopping, the dash is covered with very small particles of it after each journey, with maybe a few larger pieces. The vents also have quite a musty odour coming out.

Any ideas? I had the pollen filters changed at my local shop when I took it in for an oil change. I had a look at the DIY Loren posted above, and will confirm that there are no obvious sources in there...

  4. Hi all,

Just posting these details on my 38K miles '99 C2, in case anyone finds it interesting...

Normal running temp : about 200 degrees

Ammeter : is usually at 13V normally.

Idle RPM (a/c NOT on) : 650 RPM 2.2 bar oil pressure (seems a little lumpy at this RPM, much better at 800)

Idle RPM (a/c on) : 800 RPM 2.5 bar oil pressure

@ 1600 RPM, oil pressure is 3.2 bar

@ 2000 RPM, oil pressure is 3.5 bar

@ 3000 RPM, oil pressure is 4.5 bar (this is about as high as it gets)

Fuel economy averages between 18 and 23 MPG. I use super grade fuel.

The car seems healthy, no problems that I know of. No oil leaks.

  5. I like the sound of hooking up a large harddrive full of all my MP3's via the USB port.

Anyone got any pictures of this unit installed? I notice it's a 25W per channel amp, how does that compare to the CDR220 and the factory amp in the front of my 99 C2?

What would be a good set of speakers to pair with this?

Thank you for any input you can give. I'm a little frustrated with the sound quality in my 'old' car, and want to modernise it a bit.

  6. Yes, thanks guys, the garage today told me it was almost definitely the coolant tank. Seems to be the third one on this car! I guess the glycol seemed oily to me, and that threw me off. Any ideas how much you would think it would be to replace that? I'll let you know when I hear from the guy. The good thing is, it explains why the car smelt hot when I stopped. I never noticed water leaking onto the ground before, but you could smell it. This explains that.

He's going to balance the tyres, change the oil, and replace my pollen filters too. I feel my Christmas bonus being spent already... :)

der meister : the plate doesn't mean anything, it's just a standard florida 'Challenger' plate. Thanks for the pics comments!

    -James.

Hey James, yes it does sound more like coolant. Hope it's nothing serious.

Thanks for sharing the great pics, and cool rocket on your license plate, ha.

btw, what does your plate mean?

  7. Thanks Demosan,

My coolant tank was replaced on my car, when it was new, maybe twice. But I will double check - should I see lots of coolant in the overflow tank? This fluid is quite oily, the coolant shouldn't be oily should it? I did feel under the reservoir tank filler area, and it didn't feel wet. But I couldn't get underneath the tank itself.

    -James.

    James,

SOunds to me to be a leak from the coolant reservoir tank which is located on the passenger side in the engine compartent. DO a search and you will see it is a common problem and probably requires replacing the tank. How do you know the leak is brake fluid vs coolant?? Easy check for tank is to see if tank is low or have your garage pressure test the system and that will confirm coolant leak and location. demosan

  8. Hi,

I walked out to my car at work this morning, after having driven in 14 miles from home a few hours ago, and there was a puddle of a thin, oily fluid under the drivers side tail pipe. Looking closer, it appeared that there was the thin, yellowish oily fluid dripping from the underside of the tail pipe, not from out of the end of the pipe, but having dripped from above it. It appeared to be dripping from some body work above in the pipe, but I haven't been able to see exactly where from yet.

    Oh dear.

Anyone got any ideas? I haven't started the car yet, but the brake pedal feels normal, the master brake level in the front of the car is around half full, and there is no fluid from anywhere else on the car. It doesn't appear to be clutch fluid (what does that look like?).

I find it strange that brake fluid would be leaking that far back in the car though...

Thank you for any help. I guess I will get it booked into my local Porsche guy for this afternoon, but any info you can give would be much appreciated.

    -James.

  9. My '99 C2 always smells hot out the back after even moderately spirited driving. Which is almost every trip... It's not excessive, but certainly noticeable by anyone. Is that normal?

I don't have any RMS problems, nor any other leaking fluids. My fans kick in when first starting in the morning, and I guess, whenever they need to. Engine temp always works it's way up to 180 or so, and stays pretty close to that.

    -James.
