  1. do you have a bucket of bolts in the boot? My clutch is almost toast at 42k but not making bad sounds...gl.
  2. Have you brought the shuddering up on here someone might have some insight into this. I am at 75K I believe on the original clutch? Not sure but I believe it to be. All the concerns I have are of odd little quirks and they seem to match others discriptions right before they meet with disaster. I have considered putting a SC on my 99' but well I know I do not want to do it if the engine is not healthy. Right now it drives strong, pulling from 2,300rpm in every gear. But it only takes one mechanical failure to destroy a completely healthy engine. The one thing any mechanical part the world over is guarenteed to do is break. I don't like the thought of "having" to replace the engine, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Thanks for the info, thats a real low miler! I have not brought it up on the board for a couple reasons. 1. I had an acura legend that I drove until the clutch wouldn't grab any more and this is the exact way it felt prior to it going. 2. When i took it to the dealer to fix the alarm/locks (it was a $5 fuse that cost me $400+, wish i had found this site earlier) they came up with a list of things i should get fixed and that was one of them. They said it was soft and not grabbing until really late...so I am quite sure that it is close to done. I was really happy finding one with that low of mileage with the options and in the color i wanted...the guy didn't drive it (1000 in the last 3 years...which isnt the best for it either but...) and i got it in the mid $30's. Very happy so far...but looking at 997's. Maybe next year.
  3. Thanks for the advice Loren. I have a feeling that this site is going to be a savior for me. It really seems like people know what they are talking about and explanations are in great detail. e
  4. Bought my 99 996 cab a year ago with 32k and have it up to 42k...replacing the coolant tank this weekend. Under heavy acceleration I can feel my clutch starting to shudder...dealer quoted me $1800 to replace. Other than that, the engine seems strong but I don't have much experience in them other than the wonderful 10k I have put on mine. e
  5. Hello fellow owners, I have been the proud (and with continued research, seemingly lucky) owner of a 99 996 cab. I have a few questions that maybe the more expierenced owners can help me with. 1. any way to clear up the rear (plastic) window in the soft top? I have some crease marks and general foggy looking spots. 2. is there any alternate coolant to the $45 per gallon Porsche coolant? can i use any phosphate free coolant? any recommendations? 3. i am changing my coolant tank ( i hear you all laughing) any advice...there is a great piece in the DYI section but will take any other tips. 4. what are the clear purple plastic covers on either side of the interior light? the drivers side always falls off and i am wondering if i can put a drop of glue on it or will i need to access it ever? 5. i have no reverse lights..i checked the fuse and its good. where do i start? Again in the DYI there was a small piece talking about a switch on the trans...sound right? So far i have only come across small, what i would call normal repairs, but i love the car. Thanks in advance, Erik
  6. It finally caught up to me too...while running errands, I return to my car to find it dripping the precious (and for some reason it is like green gold from porsche) green blood that runs through its german veins. After some research on the net and a brief chat with the porsche service tech, I come to the conclusion that the coolant tank is cracked. I am going to change this on saturday but needed some advice regarding the coolant itself. I figured why not just do a complete coolant change while I have it out. Porsche charges a steep $45 per gallon...can i use any PHOSPATE FREE coolant? Any alternate coolant suggestions? Tips on a thorough coolant flush? Thanks in advance, Erik
