  1. Have searched the archives to no avail. I've just recently purchased a 1998 Carrera S which had a "killer" stereo system" installed by the previous owner. I hate it and would like to revert back to a stock system. All I want to hear is the sweet sounds of the engine! Can I remove the current head and run without a radio without upsetting the Immobilizer system? (I wouldn't want to make it mad!) Obviously, the current aftermarket system didn't upset it but I'm wondering if the Immobilizer just senses that there's a radio installed and doesn't care what it is. If it needs to "see" a load, would a low-value in-line resistor between the keyed 12v. power line and ground do the trick? Thanks for your advice and expertise.
  2. Loren- Have purchased CDR-210 from a parts re-cycler to return my 1998 993 Carrera S to stock from a so-called "high-end stereo system" installed by a previous owner but the radio came w/o a code and they don't have it. It came from a '98 Boxster WP0CA2987WU624586 and the s/n on the radio chassis is BE2282W5020180. Can you help with a code or will I have to apply power to get you additional info.? Thanks!
  3. In the excellent book, PORSCHE 993 The Essential Companion, on page 139, MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE says 12,500 miles for spark plug replacement. I've got his book and I've read just about every site on the internet. I'm just saying that PORSCHE officially says 30,000 miles. Why is everyone else splitting that in half?
  4. Porsche Maintenance Schedule lists spark plug change for the '95 993 at 30,000 miles. Almost every enthusiast site I've visited talks about changing plugs at 12,500 or 15,000 miles. What's the rush here? I'm as much a fanatic about preventive maintenance as most but this seems excessive, especially considering the difficulty of the job on a twin-plug Porsche. Opinions? Consensus?
  5. I'm aware of that one. It's a good site, one of the best, if not the best, but it doesn't describe the method which doesn't require complete disassembly of the secondary distributor.
  6. Have recently purchased 12 year-old, extremely pampered '95 993 w/only 11k miles. Have changed fluids and everything but the dual distributor and power steering drive belts. Have searched the web for description of procedure for replacing dist. drive belt and ref. is made to the EZ method that doesn't require complete disassembly. Can NE1 shed NE light on this, refer me to a web-site I might've missed, etc.? Thanks in advance!
