  1. Hi Boxsterfahrer, I was wondering if you notice the condition of the rubber bushing in the control arm. Was it damage, cracked, or worn? It sounds like your problem was a floating bushing and was corrected by seating it more firmly in the control arm. I haven't looked at the control arm myself but the dealer said it was broken and needed replacing. I'm going to check to see how broken it is. Thanks for sharing your experience. Jones
  2. Does anyone know if this R/R is a DIY job? The Bentley book says you need to have the rear alignment check/adjusted after the replacement. Is this job best done by the experts?
  3. The part number he gave me was 986-33104307. The same part is used for either side. I'm sorry, I don't know if it is also called lower suspension arm.
  4. I have the same problem. Dealer reported that the rubber bushings on both long control arms were broken and both needed replacing. The bushings are built into the arm and therefore the whole arm needs replacing. About $800 for parts and labor.
  5. Check the clutch pedal interlock switch. It is located on the clutch pedal arm. When the clutch pedal is fully depressed the switch closes and completes the circuit so the starter will crank. You can remove the two wires and short them out to see if this resolves your starting problem. Remember to disengage the gear and have it in neutral before trying to start it with it shorted.
  6. Sheldon, Before you go at the starter, try this. The clutch interlock switch maybe be bad. My symptom with the start/no start was like yours. You can test this switch by finding it by the clutch pedal arm under the dash and remove the two wires connected and shorting them out by connecting them together. If the switch is bad, your car will start. Just be warned that the car will start without depressing the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor. If it is the switch, you can decide if you want to replace it. Mine was bad, I choose not to replace it and just keep the two wire connectors shorted to by-pass the interlock feature. I hope this helps.
  7. Your symptoms were the some as mine. The alt, abs, and a couple of other dash lights came on and remained on after the engine started and this was with a fully charged battery. I ended up buying a remanufactured alternator from the dealer about $650 with a refundable core charge. My old unit had a whine maybe bearings going bad, so I decided to change it out. I might have been able to just replace the voltage regulator like others have done but I figured while I'm in there I might as well do a change out. Most of the work was getting access to the alternator. I found removing both seats gave me better access through the passenger compartment panel hatch. The change out is pretty straight forward, you remove the electrical connectors to the alt, remove serpentine belt off the alternator pulley, and two bolts. Rotating and jocking it out was fun but do-able. Just take your time. Be sure to re-connect the electrical connectors to the seats before trying to start your engine. The airbag light will come on if they are not connected and will stay on. It will require a reset by the dealer or someone who has access to OBD II computer. The Bentley Manual was helpful with its descriptions and pictures.
