  1. Are you referring to the "normal" 997 mechanism p/n 997 424 010 00 or to the option IXCZ short shift version, p/n 997 424 983 00? Yes, good question
  2. This is embarrasing and frustrating at the same time. Dealer had to drop the engine due to a "hard fault" on a knock sensor. Well, guess what.......while the car was sitting out back during my new garage construction, mice decided to take up residence in the engine compartment and chewed through some wires. Frustrating because if my garage was finished, I could have done this myself as I have a four post lift and the other required tools. Live and learn. I'm supposed to get her back tomorrow after a $2400 mouse fix at the dealer. At least I'm at the point where we are parking on the new slab and not out it the dirt anymore. I need a drink.
  3. Put the rear up in the air yesterday, pulled the air filter box out and checked the hoses, lines, etc. All looks OK, I guess I will just have the dealer diagnose it. Before I do, I will run her some more to see if I can hear any honking, thanks for the tip. Ted K

  5. Just started driving the car again after it sat for 3 months, I'm on my third tank of Cheveron so I don't think its the gas. Could the BOV's need replacing? No codes, and it does everything well except full throttle. Ted K
  6. Opinions please, as to what might be wrong with my car..... 2004 TT, 39,000 miles, new Bosch plugs at 30,000. Car feels normal around town, no issues, no warning lights. Short blips at 1/3 throttle feel good and gets to .7 bar. By short I mean 2.5K - 3K rpm, feels like it wants to run, but then... Full throttle is the problem...3K - 6K rpm boost first hits .5 then decreases to .4 and that majic boosted acceleration is simply not there and the rpm's climb slowly. All pipes seem connected. Any opinions appreciated. Thanks, Ted K
  7. The best thing I ever did for the car is to install custom front grills. Keeps 95% of the road junk out! No effect on temp. Bad exposure on picture 1 so you can see the grills. You can see the simple attachment method in picture 3.

  9. Yes, the entire assembly comes out. You need to first make sure that the center pin is pulled all the way out to the end of its travel before pulling on the body to remove it. It's probably wrong, but I use two screwdrivers together to slowly work the center pin out to end of travel before removing the body.
  10. Just got a service history summary printout from the local dealer but the listings for the most part are too brief to understand. Example...... 4 C O3POZ PORSCHE MAINT, or 2 W 3OPOZ *PORSCHE MANUAL. Is there a translation list anywhere that I could access? Did a search and came up empty. Thanks Ted K

  12. Man, I had no idea what I was getting into when I started the cleanout/recondition project two weeks ago. My radiators were full of junk like everyone elses, but the radiator fins were seriously messed up, plus they were full of thousands of mini-pebbles(really, I mean thousands). I probably spent 8 total hours just straightening the fins and cleaning the radiators using screwdrivers, welding tip cleaners, air pressure, water pressure, and plenty of cursing. Finished them off with a coat of special radiator paint from Eastwood. After that was done, I decided to add some grills to help filter out some road junk, and after searching this and other boards I came up with my own variation. Bought some powdercoated hex mesh from customcargrills.com and attached the pieces to the grill inserts with black bailing wire(several places). I am quite happy with the results and since today its 80 outside, I can tell you there is no effect on operating temp. Thanks to CosmosC4S for the original inspirational posts. Hard to get the right exposure to show the way the car looks.

  14. Loren, where should I place the front cable before I put the front end pieces back on? Currently off the car are the fascia, forward wheelwell covers, center radiator gasket/shroud, side radiator ducts, bumper & energy absorbers. One hell of a radiator cleaning project!
  15. Yikes, I just had my rear fascia off for the spark plug change and did not see any such cable for the engine lid. Hope its still in the right place. I can't see it in your picture, where is it??

  17. This cable was tucked under the passenger headlight assembly, leads to the hood latch mechanism. If its an emergency lid opener, just how is someone supposed to access it? 2004 Turbo.
  18. Well I guess all is well, finsihed the job today and all the old plugs look good. Slight amount of oil in the bottom of turbo intake hose, got that out with a rag. To confirm the blowby theory I disconnected the small hose from the intake hose and probed inside the hose with a white wire and was able to confirm this as the source of the oil. So, engine is sound, turbo is sound and I had a litttle blowby oil in the intake hose after 30K miles. The upper (turbo output) hoses in the engine compartment are clean and dry.
  19. Thanks again Loren. I should have been more clear.....the oil is on the metal hose end that is inserted into the intercooler and usuallly not visible. I stuck my finger into the hose interior and rubbed the inside of the hose and came out with some (slight) oil on my fingertip. I will be pulling and checking the old plugs tomorrow and generally checking things out. So, given that the oil is inside the system my question above still stands. Thanks Ted K
  20. Just disconnected the lower driver side intercooler hose and noticed some oil on it. The passenger side hose was clean as a whistle. I am changing the spark plugs (30K) and after pulling the hose I'm done for the day so I have not looked any further yet. Is it normal to have oil there? Is there a PCV system on these engines that might dump some oil vapor into that side's piping? Could the turbo be leaking oil? Car runs fine with no codes. Man, this is a fun job. Thanks Ted K

  22. Help! The 996 Carrera DIY says not to use anti-sieze and the 996TT DIY says you do. So, which is it? I have a TT. Thanks Ted K
