  1. Here's a view from the rear 3/4s. PS Alter_Schwede: I followed your lead with the turbo IIs. I love the look!
  2. Dr. Paul, Here's a few shots I took with my camera phone (apologies for the quality)...
  3. It is E12. I picked up a set of torx reverse sockets at Sears.
  4. My 996 came equipped with only the side skirts. IMHO they make the car look even more rounded and help make the car appear even lower than it is. Everyone who's seen it remarks at how good they look. You can sort of make them out in my avatar. At this point I may add an aero front and rear spoiler but I have to admit I'm smitten with the looks of the skirts and the clean lines of the front and rear ends. Hope this helps!
  5. Ok, now I feel like a fool. I noticed that there was no seat belt receptacle on my newly installed passenger seat. Blinding flash of the obvious- I needed to remove it from my original seat and install it on the new seat. So I unbolted the bugger and stared down that harness for a few minutes. As I grasped the harness to work it apart the lighter grey plastic piece on one end slid open and the harness fell apart in my hands. I almost cried. :soapbox: So I installed the receptacle, wired it using the built in wire looms on the seat, and plugged the blue connector back into the harness (guess what the two extra wires in my above post were for? Yep, the seat belt receptacle). I then pulled and installed the driver's seat in about 15 minutes max. Anyone need a seat swapped out? I think I could make some money at this now! Good thing I used my own car to practice on. Now on to the shop to reset the airbag light. Sheesh.
  6. It appeared to be caught on one side so I carefully inserted a thin blade flat head screwdriver into the female side and rotated it carefully. It gave enough for the male end to easily pop out. To reconnect I did the same thing. I spent at least an hour working on that harness. I understand that we don't want the two halves separating, but come on! I found this link on another site (posted by Loren): http://members.aol.com/ericbosco/gt3/page_01.htm It may be helpful too. I just got a call that my driver's seat just arrived so I'll try this method tonight when I swap out the seats. I understand the airbag is still functional even with the dash light 'on.' Once I get the driver's seat in I'll make an appointment at a local shop to reset the light. If I can get my camera phone working I'll take a shot of the two additional wires that are under the stock seats; they are missing from the sport seats. If memory serves me they are brown and white. Obviously they have some function, perhaps to notify that there is a certain amount of weight on the seats (airbag and/or seatbelt)? Heck, maybe I'll try to take a few pics of the entire process. The power seatback works perfectly on the passenger seat, as do all the manual adjustments. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the grey back of the seat (from a '99) coordinates with the carbon interior and the slate grey exterior. Might not have to paint them!
  7. I figured out how to separate and reconnect both sides of the harness. What a pain. If there is an easy way please let me know. Now I have the airbag light on. Sigh. I noticed there was another pair of wires on the standard seat harness that wasn't on the new sport seat harness. Any ideas if this means I need to take it to a shop to splice in the additional wires (I have no idea what they were for, as the new sport seat reclines via the powered mechanism). Or can I just take it to the shop/dealership and have them reset the light? Does the light mean the airbags are no longer functioning? Many thanks!
  8. HELP! I'm in the process of swapping out my stock seats for sport seats. The removal of the four bolts was painless, but I cannot figure out how to reconnect the two halves of the wiring harness under the seat! Maybe I'm daft. I don't want to apply too much pressure as I may end up breaking one or the other. If it helps my seats are standard power (manual fore/aft and seatback). Many, many thanks!
  9. Uh, unless the tire was new you should buy two of those tires... :o I'd want the two rear tires to be worn at the same rate and depth. Wow, I'm sorry this happened, but what a relief that you weren't hurt.
  10. Got 'em in the mail and they are on the car. When I get the battery to my camera recharged I'll take a pic or two.
  11. Do you mind if I ask how much it cost (parts and installation)? Thanks!
  12. Wow, that looks great! I love the aluminum door handles too.
  13. I seem to remember reading that it is a Boxster part that you can find at your local Porsche shop.
  14. All the time! My wife had a security system installed which monitors our doors with an annoying female voice (reminds me of Plankton's computer's voice on Spongebob Squarepants) "Fault garage door." It is now impossible for me to sneak a peek in my garage. When my 4 year old son hears the message he runs to the garage to sneak a peek too! :clapping:
  15. Yep, got is. 'tis a shame... I'll have to keep looking! Thanks again for all the assistance!!!
  16. Yeah, they aren't the correct offset, but according to a post by Loren in: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st=0entry1802 "Here are the Porsche approved tires: Tire Size Front: 225/40 ZR 18 Rear: 285/30 ZR 18 Tires: - Bridgestone Potenza S-02A N3 Directional - Continental Sport Contact 2 N2 Side-directional - Michelin Pilot Sport N1 Directional - Pirelli P-ZERO ROSSO N4 Side-directional Approved 18 wheels (w/offsets) are: - Front: 8J X 18 offset - 50.0/52.0 - Rear: 10J X 18 offset - 65.0 5 mm spacers are approved on all four wheels. 17 mm spacers on the rear wheels and 5 mm spacers on the front are also approved with use of proper (longer) wheel bolts. "Unofficially" With the 8" front wheel you can go 235/40 ZR 18 tire without any rubbing and it will reduce understeer a little. A couple of brands of 295/30 ZR 18 rear tires are reported to not rub (or require fender rolling) but I can't recommend any especially if you are lowering the car. Perhaps you can tell if this is a street car or track car and others can recommend tire/wheel combinations for both" In this thread GregTT replies: "LAP One of the good things about buying custom wheels, is that you select the offset. If someone has a OE Carrera style wheels (which have 52 & 65mm offsets F/R) and they throw a 7mm spacer on the front and a 17mm on the rear, then they have an affective offset of 45 & 48. Offset (or ET, which means 'pushed in') is decreased as you 'space' the wheel out." If I read this correctly, but using an 18" wheel with a 17mm spacer you are almost at the same offset as the rears on the wheels I'm looking at. Hmm. Loren, What do you think?
  17. Thanks for the quick replies! I'm blown away. What concerns me most is the offset. The 45 offset on the rears may be an issue with fit. However, if these are the same as the millenium wheel then it appears the question is answered. These are factory wheels off of a C4S. On the Porsche website it looks like they are calle 415 18" Turbo Look II Here's a thread where alter_schwede claims this offset will work: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...st=0entry8842 "Yes, the 11Jx18 ET45 rims will fit but to be safe I would go for the standard 285/30 x 18 tires on the rims due to the ET45 and the back fender arche. Note: it also depends on the tire Brands, Michelin 285/30 fits perfect, might getting some problem with PZero Rosso 285/30, cause they have seemly wide roll-area, meassured to 310mm." I was wondering if this is an opinion and/or fact. I'll send Tony an IM and email too.
  18. I apologize as I know this has been asked, but I wanted to see if anyone had already installed a set of wheels such as these onto a narrow body 996... C4S turbo twist wheels Fronts are 225/40 ZR 18 N3, 18 X 8 with 50mm offsets P-zero assim. Rears are 295/30 ZR 18 N3, 18 X 11 with 45mm offsets P-zero assim. I did a search and saw similar questions with replies such as "...it should work..." but I was wondering if anyone knew firsthand that it would/wouldn't work. If it did work did the install require any spacers? Many, many thanks! My car is a stock-suspended '00 C2 coupe 6 speed and is lightly driven. I may make it out to the twisties now and then but I keep things on the sane side. My car currently has the twist 17'' wheels (17x7, 17x9).
