  1. I have tried aftermarket "white" bulb and Sylvania's bulb. For a good brightness, Sylvania Silverstar definitely is better. Aftermarket "HID-look" bulb only looks like HID but less brightness. It is up to you.
  2. For me, I couldn't careless about the window when I am racing. I wish there is no windows at all. B)
  3. I personally tried blue-coated bulb and Sylvania SS bulb. The difference is: Blue-coated bulbs may look like HID from a distance, but the visibility and brightness is not as good as Sylvania's SS. Sylvania's bulb is not as white as HID, but the visibility and brightness is much better than aftermarket bulb. It is really up to you. I used blue-coated bulbs for about 3 months then I changed to Sylvania's. The reason is for brightness and visibility. Hopefully, this can answer some of your question.
  4. You can go to Pepboy or Autozone to have the OBD code read out first. After that, you will have better idea of what happened to your lovely Boxster. It is no charge.
  5. Just found a web site regarding replacing motor and regulator. It is not too hard. Probably will do it later. Thanks for help.
  6. So, I have to change regulator? Is it a easy DIY job? I found a web site teaches how to remove door panel. Before I do that, do you think lubricant will work? Since all other function are OK, I don't know if I should try this first? Also, I have notice that when the door is open/close, window won't hit the top frame (just barely miss it) even though it won't drop down. So, maybe I shouldn't bother to do anything with it  (I don't know if the function is just for that purpose). If the window drops is just to prevent from hitting the top frame when door is open/close, and if it is a hard DIY job, I think I can live with a malfunctioning window since it won't hit anything now.
  7. Hi: Just this morning, when I opened the door, the driver side window didn't come down 1/2" to clear the seal. But, when I try to lower/raise the top, the window come down normally. If I push down the window with some force when the door is opened, it will back up when I close it. If I use key to lower/raise the windows, they all work fine. The switch on the center console is normal and can function without problem to move the window. Can anybody tell what kind of problem it is? Is there any easy way to fix it? MY98 boxster Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi: I have question about cooling system. It is hot summer now. Sometimes the temp reach up higher than normal. I was wondering about using water wetter to the cooling system. I have seen some of the report showing the effectiveness of cooling down engine. I don't know if it is OK for POrsche system? Has anybody have experience with it? Any feedback is highly apprecaited. Thanks
  9. Thanks TP. Just curious. Not sure if I will do it. I do believe Porsche put this in for some purpose. But, I also heard that this piece is not there from 2003. I don't know if it is true. Anyway, Thanks again. :)
  10. Hi, guys: I have seen so many people de-snorkling their boxster to get better sound effect. Can anybody give some pros and cons about this hack? Is there anybody experience bad result due to de-snorkling? Thanks.
  11. Try this site, I think you can find your answer there. http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/
  12. Hi: I just had my 98 Box (tip) oil and spark plugs changed (30k miles). Right after that, I feel smoothier than before. But after 2 days, I feel a kind of powerless and response is not so good as before. I checked oil, no leak. Spark plugs, seems OK and tightened. No Check Engine light is on. I don't know what will go worng. Any advise is very appreciated.
  13. That's what I am looking for. But after browsing Homelink's web site, they don't have any visor-switch kind of opener available. And I believe to do this mod is not that difficult if the visor mirror has light on it. Just can't find supply for the button that can be installed in the visor and has a very clean look as the photo shows. I would like to have some information on this too.
  14. Maybe you can check with Becker to see if they have it. http://www.beckerautosound.com/
  15. My opinions: 1). You can throw away the stock radio if you reaaly hate it. Or you can have it on eBay for somebody who really need it. 2). Definitely you can get wiring harness for aftermarket radio. If you plan to change all your wiring, you don't have to worry about harness.
  16. Thank you Stryke: So, if I use HID bulb, it is definitely safe. But if I use Xenon Halogen bulb, I'd better use 55W to avoid burning or melting. Is that right?
  17. Hi: I have some question about lights too. 1). I have heard that most of the aftermarket HID or Xenon bulb are overpowered. So it is very easy to melt housing. 2). If the Xenon or HID bulb is 55W (compatible with car spec), then it would not be white enough or bright enough, is it true? Thanks
  18. I have a question somewhat related to this. My is 98' boxster w/o factory alarm. When I removed the center piece, I found there is wire connected but no alarm light. Does anyone know what is that for if I have no alarm? Can I retrofit an OEM alarm in it? Thanks
  19. I have found a web site to teach you how to remove side vent. Here it is. http://www.realtime.net/~rentner/index.html
