Correct, the key is assigned a memory "slot", what I meant by reset, was I adjusted the mirrors again after having the problem and with the key in the ignition set the memory for the key again with the mirrors in proper position. After doing this I locked and unlocked the car with success, but later coming back to the car, unlocked the doors and the mirrors went off in their own direction

    First it started with the passanger mirror motor engaging in reverse and then not stopping. Posted reply on this forum was to check the reverse switch which unfortunately wasn't the issue. Now when I have gotten in my car the mirrors go in random directions activated by my remote key. When I get in the car I reset the mirrors manually and then push the memory 1 button and the mirrors start moving randomly. I then put the mirrors back and set the memory and it works fine...until I use the key remote which seems to reintroduce the bug. I have reset the memory assigned to the key several times and when I use the remote it engages the mirrors and they go off in their own directions. It is as if the system engages to set the mirrors as it should, but doesn't recognize that they are set correctly and simply starts the mirrors moving. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.     Thanks for the input. I will look at that, but the issue is not whether it engages, it is that it sometimes doesn't stop. My backup lights are turning on and off as expected. I read the comment in the DIY post but it suggested that the rear mirror was not tilting at all vs. starting to tilt and then continuing to. Thanks again.

    I am having an intermittent problem when I put my 2002 996 in reverse: I have it set up so the passenger side mirror points down when in reverse, however, on occassion the mirror motor will start and then continue after the mirror has gone all the way down. At this point the motor resets several times and then stops. At this point when I put the car in first the mirror doesn't return to its normal driving position. Any ideas on what could be causing this? This is not 100% consistent which leads me to think there may be a lose wire, but wanted to get input from a broader audience before taking things apart. Thanks!

    Nice install BUT does'nt the GPS unit need to be pointed stright ahead? If at an angle it would assume your pointed in a different direction. It hasn't been an issue so far both speed and navigation are accurate. Izzy's option seems better in that you can snuggly fit it into the cup holder.

    A great place to look for parts is www.pelicanparts.com. Depending on the color of your top you want to order the Rollbar End Cap. Graphite grey = 996-555-457-00-C50 For the Cigarette Ligher put in following part number in the search field at pelican and see if it is what you are looking for: 996-652-101-00 Don't know about the hood release, but you may want to peruse the parts diagrams on Pelican: http://www.pelicanparts.com/PartsLookup/Pa...p_Main_Page.htm Good luck.     Recently one of my wheel crests on my 2002 996 came off. I was shocked to find out the cost is $215 for 4 replacements but this is including the wheel insert, not just the crest. I did find a web site in the UK that sold just the crest, but I was hoping to find it in the U.S. Hoping someone has found a more cost effective way to solve this :-) Thanks.

    I was wondering why my car was not performing at its peak, I should have gone with black PVC...LOL Regarding your question on the water bottle, I presume so. I have attached a picture with a travel mug and also a side view of the PVC for your reference (note, that if the PVC is too long the GPS will teeter...it needs to be just long enough to rest in the cup hold base, but sit flush on top).     I have seen a few posts on after market GPS systems and thought I would give folks an option that does not require any installation. I purchased a Magellan 4050 from Costo for $499. This GPS includes birds-eye view, bluetooth and voice recognition. Utlizing the cup holder in my 996, a 2 inch diameter piece of PVC with inset cap and heavy duty velcro I was able to create a portable and easy to read solution that doesn't require mounting on the windshield. Both the GPS and PVC holder fit in the center console. See attached picture for the end result.

    One thought...at ~$45K you can some find some higher mile MY02 cabs. In 2002 Porsche increased the engine from a 3.4L to 3.6L engine with a subsequent power increase from 300 HP to 316 HP. Additionally, they changed the front-end to be less Boxster like. Best of luck in your search!

    First, I am new to the RennTech forum and am amazed at the responsiveness and depth of knowledge! Thanks for all the info...here is where things stand: - after getting the info from Izzy and Richard I called the Porsche dealer and the tech found that the alarm had not been coded and once done they said the lights work. Way to go on identifying the exact issue :-) !!!! - Izzy, thanks for the tip on the auto door lock! They are doing that as well. Thanks again, I hope I am able to return the favor with some gem of wisdom as I become more familiar with our new toy.

    I recently purchased a 2002 996 cabriolet and have an odd problem. The interior lights (reading lights, door lights, trunk light etc.) only function when the key is in the ignition and turn to the starting position. At this point if I close the door the lights fade out as expected and when I open the door, voila. However, if I take the key out and try to use the reading light...no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
