  1. Hi, I have a UK spec 2003 996 C2. Last weekend I topped up the oil with approx 2 litres of Mobile 1 (0W-40). The engine seemed to run better and it sounded smoother after the new oil. Today I took the car out for its first decent run after the oil top up and on a quiet road I picked up the speed. At approx 90mph I changed from 3rd to 4th and a HUGE cloud of white smoke exploded out from the exhausts. I immediately slowed to a stop expecting the very worst. I sight checked the engine and nothing seemed to be obviously amiss and there seemed to be no leakages. I drove the car the rest of the 3-4 miles to home slowly and nothing seemed to be wrong but the oil pressure at idle went from approx 4 down to 1 bar. I have just started the car up again after leaving it for about 1 hour and a small cloud of white smoke came out the exhausts on ignition but normal exhaust thereafter. Can anyone advise what might be the problem? Many thanks
  2. Hi all, I have a 2003 996 C2 UK spec car. I have had the car for 2 years and have always had problems with bump steer/poor steering handling. It got progressively worse and worse and so recently I took it into a good Porsche specialist for them to take a look. They diagnosed it was a problem with the tyres and so I got them to put on 4 new Pirelli PZero Rossos. The geometry was done and all wheels were balanced. The car drove fantastically for about 4 weeks then the problems started again. I am getting some bump steer and the steering feels very light again – like not all of the tyre is making contact with the road. It seems like the geometry has been pushed out of alignment but I don’t drive the car hard and I can’t think of any reason why the geometry is out (i.e. I haven’t hit a bump or kerb at high speed) I do drive over speed bumps but not at excessive speeds. I can take it back in to get the geometry re-done but at £250+ per time it is expensive if I have to do this every 4 weeks! Does anyone know of the root cause of the geometry keep being pushed out of alignment? Are there any other components that I should replace to keep the geometry aligned?
  3. I took my 03 996 C2 UK spec car to OPC Hatfield for them to check out a power drain caused by the PCM 2 unit. They told me the pcm was faulty and needed to be replaced. I have an OPC warranty but they said this did not cover the PCM and then quoted me ₤1,600 for the cost of a replacement :cursing: Can anyone recommend an alternative place I can get a quote for a new PCM2? I have checked out ebay UK but found nothing on there. many thanks!
  4. In recent weeks the steering on my AUG03 996 C2 UK spec car has begun to feel very light. Doesn't matter if I drive at 10 mph or 100mph, or any speed in between, it feels the same. It's like driving on ice all the time (without all the skidding!) I checked the front tyre pressure and they are at 36 psi. The car doesn't feel unstable - just very light steering. I get no feedback from the road at all when driving. Almost like the power steering has got too much power. I have an OPC warranty (done in June 07) and the MOT was done a few weeks ago. So hopefully if the steering was dangerous then it would have been picked up during the MOT or OPC checks. Is this light steering normal? Should I get Porsche to look at it? many thanks for any help
  5. The PSM and ABS warning lights have come on and stayed on on my UK spec 996 Carrera Coupe (AUG 03). I have read through some of the previous topics on this subject so I think I have an idea what could be causing the problem. However, I can’t seem to find any advice on whether the car is safe to drive. I assume that with the warning lights on then neither the ABS or PSM are functioning. Any advice from safety experts out there???
  6. Many thanks for this, Richard. So if I want to fully disable the PCM2 in my Aug 03 Carrera, I will need to remove fuses D8, D9, D10, E6 and E8? thanks again, Paul

  8. Hi, I'm a newbie owner of a UK spec 2003 Carrera 996. Sorry for the really basic question but can anyone tell me where to find the fusebox? Also, can anyone tell me which fuse I need to remove to disable power to the PCM2? I have recently had a new PCM2 fitted and ever since the battery has been draining to dead within 48 hours.
  9. The PCM2 in my 996 Carrera (AUG2003) was faulty so the kindly dealer bought and fitted a brand new PCM2 unit. All was fine until 48 hours later the battery died. Giving the dealer's mechanics the benefit of the doubt I bought a brand new battery and all was fine......for 48 hours when the new battery died leaving my car stranded in a car park. Is this a common fault when fitting a new PCM2 unit or have the dealer's mechanics managed to e.g. connect the PCM directly to the battery? Many thanks for any advice.
