  1. I have a 2000 911 and had a clear bra professonally installed by Premier in Northern California, and I understand they just opened up a shop in SCal. I had the entire hood done and partial fenders and the mirrors. I should have had the entire fenders done, as the seem is barely noticeable, but would have looked better had I done the entire fender. Cost was about $1,200. They did an excellent job. You must be careful to make sure that any blemishes that exist are fixed as once the clear is over them, it makes them show worse. Have had no trouble with it buckling or puckering. For the most part, you can not tell it is on the car
  2. Thank you everyone, this really helps. This site is really valuable to me as I don't have a clue about what I am doing.
  3. Ok, maybe I can approach this from another angle. Does anyone know a good Porsche upholstry shop in the San Francisco Bay Area, or should I just bring it to a dealership? (but they probably sub it out).My dash bubbled and wrinkled over on the piece above the instrument cluster. Also, does anyone know if this one piece comes off buy itself as it is raised and looks somewhat independent of the rest of the dash?
  4. This is a wierd thing. But today I drove my 2000 911 Millineium Edition, which has all leather dash. The part above the instrument cluster was smooth and perfect. It was cold (36 degrees) and as I drove the car started to fog up. I put on the defroster at about 71 degrees, probably for 10 minutes. Once I parked and got out of the car, the dash above the instrumental cluster was wrinkled and gathered from the windshield going back for about 6 inches. It looks like a young face going to winkle. I can't for the life of me figure out what happened in that short period of time. The car in constantly garageed, never in the sun, and nothing was wet. Anyone have any ideas?
  5. If anyone has had experience or actually has a newer Targa with the automatic roof, I would like to know what problems I should be looking for when purchasing one. I have a coupe now and the Targa has always been of interest to me. Leeks, rattles, etc.?
  6. I owned a new 1983 911 SC and sold it once I got married with only 5,000 miles. I always loved the car, but because of my job did not get a lot of driving time in it. I have owned two different 2000 911 Carerras, and now have a very beautiful Millenium Edition. Too beautiful to drive everyday, and have fun with, unfortunately. So I am back looking for my old 1983 to have some fun with. I am looking for a coupe. What should I look for, and what, more importantly should I watch out for?
  7. I think for the most part it comes with the territory. I owned a 2000 C2 coupe and the seat rattled and now I own a very low mileage 2000 C4 Millenium Edition coupe, seems much more solid, but guess what, the passenger seat rattles. If you angle the back of the seat back I have found it helps on mine.
  8. Just had the hood and bumper repainted on my 2000 Millenium Edition 911. Asked around for quite some time to find a paint and body shop that could handle the special color and the change in the color based on the sun, etc. More than one dealership in NCal told me about Baron Von Frier in Berkeley. As it turned out, the owner, Dave, is a nut job that makes the word perfectionist inadequate. He would not paint the car until he had adequate sunlight to study sample panels of the paint to make sure it changed colors correctly. Made sure everything that was replaced was original, even to the clamp on the headlight washer! Did some extra work on a ding on the door that I had decided not to bother with, and made that perfect also, for free. He is a little expensive, but the work was incredible, and it is perfect in every way. Doing the clear bra over the entire hood and bumper after 30 days to wait for the paint to cure, but it was double baked so probably would be ok even if I didn't wait. He called me for approval on every little thing, prior to going ahead with it. Can't say enough about this shop. Well worth the money to get your car in perfect condition. Oh, and he measures the paint thickness on the car prior to doing anything and can tell you where it has been repainted before, and if there was body work or not. I thought mine was completely original and it had some paint work prior to my work. This shop is an 11 on a 1-10 scale.
  9. I thought that at first, but it was more of an oxidation look, or like the edges were thicker or not clear any longer.
  10. I was thinking about having a clear bra installed on my 911, but have seen a couple where the edges have a distinct white film or non-clear look to them around the edges. What causes this, and can it be prevented?
  11. Thank you all. I might have to get the radio code from Loren as I don't have it. My mechanic who is doing some other work believes he can get it from the dealer. If that isn't the case, Loren to the rescue, I hope.
  12. I inadvertantly left the key on in my 2000 911 Millenium Edition for at least 24 hours. Of course the battery is dead as a door nail. What procedures will I have to go through to get everything working again? I know this probably will affect all the programing of the radio, navigation, etc. HELP!
  13. I am told that the user manuel for the navigation system is no longer in print. I need one or at least a place to go to in order to find out all of the in's and out's of operating it. Can anyone give me some guidance? Thanks in advance.
  14. Just purchased this car, my second 911 and it is beautiful. However, I noticed that the sun roof is very sluggish. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Thanks in advance
  15. Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions and will follow up on them. Your comments are very helpful.
  16. This model had walnut burl steering wheel and trim, the wood on the steering wheel is cracking and needs repair or replacement. Does anyone know where or who does this type of work, or where I should start looking?
  17. This may be a dumb question, but I have noticed that the 2003 911 Carerra(s) are somewhat more reasonably priced than what I would consider for the years before and after, based on mileage, etc. Is there something about this year that I should know, or have I just seen a number of 2003 good prices?
  18. Sorry to not respond sooner, but I was away on business and unable to. I am located in Castro Valley. My mechanic, who was a former service manager and lead mechanic for Porsche said he can deal with it as I have him doing a few other things. Not much of a DIY person, but nice to read all this as it helps me to learn the car.
  19. Thanks, like I said I am a new owner, is the only way to check fault codes with the scanner that shops or dealers use?
  20. I have a 2000 C2 Coupe, 50,000 miles, the red airbag light just came on for the first time today. I have had no previous problems, and as far as I know, the bags have never been deployed. The manual states that the airbag structrue should be checked by a dealer over certain periods of time. One of those times is 8 years, so could this just be a timed or set indicator so that it gets checked, or what else could be happening. I have only had the car for about 6 months. Thank you in advance.
  21. You mentioned you got the plastic parts from Sunset. Who are they are what exactly do you call the plastic parts so that they can be ordered. Thanks in advance
  22. I am looking to buy a Millenium Edition and have seen a few. All have had flaking of the wheels with the red undercoating showing. It seems to be a real problem. Anyone interested in selling one, please let me know.
  23. Ok, sorry to be dense again, but what do I search under. I am relatively new to this site, but really have started to learn from your posts.
  24. while detailing my 2000 996 Coupe one of the roof rack slots got pushed down and I can't get it to pop back up flush with the roof line. There is a plactic spacer or something on one side of the panel. Can anyone tell me what to do. I have tried to find an instruction page for it, but the manual has nothing. Thanks in advance.
