  1. The manual says "Remove the air cleaner housing".

    1. The 3.8 liter engine has a switch resonator installed in the air cleaner housing. In order to remove the air cleaner housing, the cable plug must be disconnected from the electric switch?over valve 1.

    post-2-1142444617.png

    2. Unclip the tandem pump vacuum line from the air cleaner housing.

Note - the rubber sleeves for securing the air cleaner housing

Disconnect plug connection on the hot film mass air flow meter 2. Press together the locking lever on the plug and pull the plug off the flange. Unclip the connection lead at the omega clips.

    3. a. Undo the threaded sleeve for the rubber moulding of the air cleaner housing from the throttle body 1

    b. Unclip the oil filling pipe from the air cleaner housing 3 and then lift the air cleaner housing out of the fastening lug 4.

    4. Unclip the switch?over valve for the switch resonator from the housing bracket 1 detach the vacuum line from the housing 2 and disconnect from the resonator.

Note - The air cleaner housing should not be cleaned on the outside with strong cleaning agents.

    5. Lift the air cleaner housing completely out of the engine compartment. If necessary, the outside of the housing can be cleaned using a damp cloth and some washing?up liquid. Then, lay the housing on a soft surface to avoid scratching the painted surface.

    "Then remove the 8 screws".

Install is in the reverse order.

If this works okay then let me know and we'll move this to the 997 DIY section.

    Thank's Loren!

    The directions were perfect,

I just took a bit of careful time figuring out the Disconnect plug connection on the hot film mass air flow meter..seems the locking lever is on the back side

  2. There is a thread on Rennlist about installing the Cayenne Sat tuner in a 997 by an audio shop, and the photo seems to show that it worked.

    My question is this:

Would not the audio shop need to have a PIWIS tester to "Code" the sat tuner to the PCM?

You just can't add the module and it will be recognized or can you?

  3. Hi All,

I just ordered a 2006 997S Cab set for January delivery. When I was filling out my options list, I noticed a power option for $16k. Has anyone yet ordered this option? I did not b/c I promised my wife not to go over 100K:)

Also, the sales person told me that the aftermarket option from TechArt is essentially the same thing at ½ the costs.

I am thinking about charging the option on my credit card and paying it off before the car comes in.

Your sales person has no :censored: clue...The aftermarket TechArt does not come close to X51.

Aftermarket tuners pretty much stick to bolt on stuff and rarely mess with internal engine components.

X51 Includes modified cylinder heads, camshafts, exhaust manifolds, control unit, and aluminum

intake manifold, CF airbox, third radiator and sports exhaust.

  4. My question is ... how does it work ...is it voice activated ?? How do you place / receive a call ? Assuming it works well with top up ... prob. not at all with top down ?? Do you actually remove the SIM card from your phone to use ?? or did you buy an extra SIM card & use call forward when you are in the car ???

Wonder if the Motorola Blue Tooth functions the same way ??

You actually take the SIM card out of your phone and place it in the card drawer and your ready to go. Yes, a bit of a PIA, but your phone book comes along. Once you swap the card from phone to car a couple of times it's not so difficult. Option 2 would be to get another phone and dedicate the SIM card to the car and forward calls from phone to car. In the US you are not able to have a duplicate SIM card

All operational info can be displayed in the PCM screen but better than that it is displayed in the OBC under the tach, and operation is controlled by the OBC stalk, where you can call up phone #'s, receient calls etc... a call comes in and you just press the stalk to answer or hang up, etc.

If you have a multi-function wheel you can use steering wheel comtrols.

Sound quality in both directions is excellent, and operation is easy, no looking far off the road for the numbers or control.

  5. I hate DEALERSPEAK..they are uninformed and make stories up!!!

Option 666 Telephone Module, IS available as a Tequipment retrofit.

P/N is 997.044.900.71 and as well you will need an optical waveguide P/N 997.622.703.00

Install TSB # is 2/08 9155 (2/21/05, 14 pgs) and is available on your dealers eDCS computer in the document repository in the service area and he can pull it up and print it for you, takes about 2min...

    Labor listed as 4.6hrs

Don't know the parts cost, give the parts dept a call and ask for price and availability of the P/N's listed above. Perhaps you could post the cost when you find out...

TIP: If you are a PCA member most dealerships will give a 10% discount on P&L.

BTW the GSM phone module works really well, mine was factory fitted and I'am pleased with it's operation and clairity!

Your dealership was uninformed...what was suspended was the Porsche "Cell Solution" since they got sued for copyright infringement by the maker. It had nothing to do with "safety issues"

  6. Vehicle dist bulletin #74

PCNA is pleased to announce the Carrera S wheel is now available for all changeable MY 2005 and MY 2006 987 and 997 orders.

    Vehicle dist bulletin #75

PCNA is pleased to announce the availability of Option XLF, Sport Exhaust, for all changeable MY 2006 997 orders.

    Vehicle dist bulletin #65

997 A sunroof delete option for the 997 Coupe series will not be available for the life span of the vehicle. Federal occupant crash regulations for sunroof versus nonsunroof vehicles and the resultant engineering expense to meet those regulations make this option financially non-viable, for the small number of vehicles configured.

    Vehicle dist bulletin #37

PAG has advised the following options have been released and are now available for ordering on 997 and 987 models. Option 666 – Module for Telephone PCM $960

Phone module for PCM allows users with a GSM phone to Insert a SIM card and use the PCM as a hands-free telephone.

  7. They have done a very good job with the implementation of the GSM phone module, sound quality is great in both directions.

She can use her exhisting SIM from her current phone, just take the card out of the phone and pop it in the drawer, bit of a pain since we can't get dupe cards, but after you do it a few times it's an easy task. Coolness is that the stored numbers come across as well, and appear and can be scrolled thru and seen in the OBC window under the tach.

Bluetooth at this time will NOT interface with the PCM

    post-226-1110772442_thumb.jpg

  8. The GSM phone is very well engineered and hands free is the way to go. You must have a PCM that has the Sim card drawer ans SOS button to add this option. (early prod cars did not have this faceplate)

    p/n 997 044 900 71 Telephone Module PCM2

NAV is GREAT as well and well worth having

    p/n 997.044.900.70

Both options will require an additional Optical Waveguide p/n depends how vehicle is equiped (Bose c/d etc.)

You can call your dealers parts dept and ask for stock and availability of the above p/n's

Perhaps you can cut a deal for the install of both at once

    Seperately the install labor is:

    GSM phone 4.6 hr

    NAV 3.1 hr

  9. There is now a TSB for 997 Sports Exhaust installation (2/05 2601)

    Some info:

With the new sport exhaust the siginal for activating the flaps in the main exhaust mufflers is provided by maps in the DME control module, not the speedo as with previous version.

Vehicles without Sport Chrono will receive a new button in the center console.

Vehicles with Sport Chrono active state is displayed by a lighe emiting in the new button.

    SE complete system p/n 997.044.200.01

    Muffler p/n left 997.111.611.00 and marking 997/19

    Muffler p/n right 997.111.612.00 and marking 997/20

Associated tailpipes left 997.111.981.20, right 997.111.982.20

    Time units for complete install:

    Without Sport Chrono 440 TU

    With Sport Chrono 330 TU

  10. The 997/997S with PCM2 requires a yet to be released cell phone  module. Last word was that it would be available through Tequipment in January. Does not look like that is happening. Probably a delay related to FCC clearance.

The factory option 666 GSM phone modue has been available since Dec and is included on my inbound 997S.

The Tequipment retrofit module should be available soon Feb/Mar

    Loren you list P/N 997 044 900 01

    The module P/N I keep seeing is 997 044 900 71

Do you have the TSB for the install? It does not appear in the doc repository on eDCS, at least I can't find it. If you do could you toss a copy my way?

  11. 2. Is the Nav unit simply a "plug and play" or does a Porsche Tech have to do their magic to turn it on? I was told by the salesperson that the unit just plugs in.

Thanks for your help and for a great forum

I think it is a bit more than plug and play,

There would be the "module" to install as well as the DVD player (unknown if it is pre-wired) as well as the GPS antenna.

As well I believe that there will be PIWIS settings that must be activated.
