  1. I currently own a new RHD C2 which was purchased the other week. I note that when I program the individual electric seat settings plus reverse gear mirror tilt function so that they are recalled with the key fob, the incorrect mirror tilts down while selecting reverse gear. I have tried clearing and resetting but to no avail. In my case due to RHD the LHS mirror should tilt down but all I seem to get is the drivers mirror tilting ie. RHS mirror. Is this something that I am setting incorrectly or is it something that the dealer has to re-program via the diagnostic tool to reflect the RHD vehicle. TIA Costas
  2. The dash switch will change the exhaust note to the standard noise produced by the standard mufflers or the full sports exhaust noise. If the electronics are fully fitted - then there is a cutout which happens in 2nd gear at a certain speed/rpm to pass some noise testing legislation in some countries. This can be bypassed easily to remove the automatic cutout if needed. Or even better - you do not require the switch/electrics to be wired in - this way the exhaust is in sports mode all the time... Refer to some earlier posts. The initial position/mode that the exhaust is in will depend on the switch on the dash - I'm pretty sure it is not a momentary switch and it also has a small lamp to indicate quiet 'standard' mode. 3. Thanks Loren... :) I suspected that a solenoid was used to switch the vacuum lines - but was not 100% sure on it - thanks Costas
  4. Does anyone (Loren) know how the actual bypass valve on the PSE works. I am getting a PSE fitted (dealer to fit) to my new 996 next week on delivery of the vehicle and was curious as to how the valve function works. Obviously the switch on the dash operates electrically, but I have read that there are some vacuum conections to the exhaust as well? I assume due to the proximity of the heat etc. that the valve on the muffler is actually not an electrical device but maybe a vacuum operated device? TIA Costas - From DownUnder.....
  5. Hi Robyn, This mod is very easy to perform so just go ahead and do it. At the end of the day - If it is not your cup of tea, it is very simple to return to your current setup with no side effects (maybe some ringing in your ears though :D ) If you do not give it a try, you will never really know what it sounds like unless you catch another vehicle with the bypass pipes. I was contemplating the same thought with my new vehicle (Nov 14 Delivery - SY C2) and just to try it out I will get a local exhaust fabricator to make up some homebrew pipes just to give it a try before purchasing the real items. 6. Does anyone know if the clear lens on a headlight housing (For BiXenon HL's) is a available as a separate part - rather than the whole headlight assembly. Just curious as to whether you can replace this part, as I note that the Headlights on a 996 TT have a smooth finish on the clear lens versus the rest of the 996 cars which have a ribbed finish on the inside of the lens. I don't own my 996 yet (Nov 14 Delivery) so I cannot quickly pop out a headlight and check whether this part is easily replaced/removed. Thanks Costas
  7. As some famous person said once.... "If all else fails - Read the Instruction Manual" and then refer it to Loren.... :D
  8. Harold, Take a look at your instruction manual, as there is a section on adjusting the headlights (pgs 236 + 237 of the 2003 manual). There are vertical and lateral adjustments, but the manual only recommends that the vertical adjustments are performed as you would possibly require some specialised equipment to set the lateral adjustments correctly (note that the lateral adjustment control is not highlighted in the drawings). You probably should not need to touch the lateral alignment unless you have changed headlights etc. The fog lights have a separate adjustment but it is not advised to touch this unless you have access to specialised measuring equipment. Regards Costas
  9. Was the oil pickup issue (starvation at high 1g cornering loads) addressed on the later 3.6L motors at the factory? I am aware of the kit which is available to fix this issue on the 3.4L motors - just curious if the factory has cured the problem on the later motors or not. Thanks
  10. Distilled water is a very good idea as it does not introduce impurities into the battery. Most tap water/rain water etc has impurities which can affect the plates on a battery in the long run. Gel cells have the main advantage of not requiring any top-up fluid etc and therfore being sealed - no acid spills etc. Typical gel cells have a disadvantage in that the internal construction is not necessarily as robust as a normal car battery. You can have plates fail internally due to vibration etc. There are some exceptions where industrial/heavy duty usage gel cells are utilised. Another problem with gel cells is that their float voltage is slighty lower in comparison to a normal lead-acid wet cell, therefore if you have long term usage of the gel cell in your car, the cars electrical charging system will tend to over-charge the battery over a period of time thereby reducing its life. 11. Note that Toluene and Xylene are very Toxic  if these hydrocarbons find their way into your body through inhalation or through your skin... Wear gloves etc when mixing and make sure you do it in a WELL Ventilated area...avoid breathing the fumes etc etc etc...
  12. If one of the main power circuits have blown a fusible link etc... this may point to a slightly more serious problem. Normally the individual device (eg headlights) would blow their own fuse for that circuit. If something has caused a few of the circuits to not work, then the problem is further back - probably something causing an issue to the main 12v feed to the fuse panel from the battery. The problem sounds like it is upstream from the fuse panel or something in the fusepanel itself. Note that there is a little connection point (inside fuse panel) for allowing a 12v connection to be made to open the hood if your battery has gone flat etc...From memory I think you pull this out slightly (I think it acts as a switch) - make sure this is fully pushed in. Check the owners manual on opening the hood etc when the main battery is flat.... Costas
  13. Hi Everyone....1st Post on this board... I have been lurking around a little before joining and because I have very much enjoyed the technical nature of this forum I have decided to join and maybe one-day help someone out with a technical nature. My First ever Porsche (996 C2) is currently being constructed and will be delivered around the end of November early Dec. The query I have is that I am having the X74 option fitted (by dealer) and the car is also going to have the Sport Techno wheels added to it. Now the rear wheels are 11 x 18' and I was concerned that there may some issue(s) with the tyres rubbing on the body...???? Note that I am getting the standard tyres which Porsche supply with the wheels. (295's) As far as I can tell by reading the Porsche sales/technical literature - they should fit (with 5mm spacers), but I have some concern due to some other posts which I have read in the past on other boards etc..... Thanks Costas - Soon to be Porsche Owner Hi from Down-Under Australia B)
