  1. The update & restoration project contines... Updating rear of a '99 C2 Cab with a factory Turbo rear bumper. I have the bumper & all related shields but need the bumperettes. (I forgot to get these filled in before painting, :censored: so now I need 'em) After getting the P/N & buying them...they're off to bumperplugs for a fresh coat of paint.
  2. This would be the metropole blue part that I need to replace on my car but does an '04 work on a '99????
  3. LVDell Nobody here knows what the cost of a conversion is for someone else. Who knows, maybe Scouser got a Turbo tail for free so he's willing to invest in the cost of customizing it. All he asked was CAN it be done, and if so how. I did the Turbo facelift for far less than many people post because I hooked up a couple of deals on the fenders & bumper, reworked the stock wire harness, etc...Should I have been told it can't be done or that its not worth the trouble? Who determines what too expensive to be considered or attempted? Please take a look at your response. As far as jyoteen, at least he posted what he knew was involved in attempting the conversion. Roughly a $1,000 for install? Seems reasonable since the aftermarket Turbo bumpers cost over a grand new and don't have working electronics. :cursing: When people post questions here, how about we just give them the info or a source where they can get it. Rather than attempt to decide what's reasonable for someone to do to their car. Gator is now leaving the soapbox.... :soapbox: And no, I'm not a lawyer... :o ...but I've been known opine from time to time! B)
  4. With all due respect to the naysayers, it CAN (and has) been done. Scouser didn't say anything about not wanting to cut metal or cost...he simply asked if it was possible. IT IS. Don Relentless posts & pics are a factory turbo tail w/strosek wing (and working eletronics). Highly customised (read:$$$$) but "do-able" nonetheless. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthr...&threadid=24039 When someone asks if something can be done, I provide info and let them decide if its something they want to pursue. This mod probably isn't cheap or easy but that's for Scouser to decide. Go for it Scouser...what's the use of doing customized mods if they don't make your car unique! :jump:
  5. Actually LVDell, PRH is correct. Over on 6Speedonline, one owner took a factory Turbo lid and customed it onto a narrow body car. Why? Because he was also able to maintain electronic control over raising / lowering the wing just like a factory Turbo. None of the aftermarket tails are electronic...they must be raised / lowered by hand. Take a look at their latest 996 forum discussions for info & pic's.
  6. Rick Do a search on this forum for MAF. I think it can get you quickly up-to-speed on what the common codes are for MAF failures. There isn't a "MAF" code per se, but there are lean threshold codes that have commonly been the result of a dirty or failing MAF sensor (but other things like the O2 sensors, vacuum leaks, etc also could be the cause). :cursing: Loren is right. What was read on the 1st visit that led the dealer to believe they needed to replace the MAF since this code has nothing to do with it? Probably, P1123 & P1125 but see what their response is...You're already into them for $600 after day 1 and now a unrelated mystery code equals another grand? I think the mechanic better come with some better answers for you. Get the codes from visit #1.
  7. Rick, sorry to hear the 1st thing you did after buying her was to end up at a dealer with a problem. Anyway, it probably would have been best to have checked this board before ok'ing the MAF change. Its suspected alot of unecessary MAF changes have been diagnosed by Porsche. :soapbox: What exactly were the CEL Pcodes? Get the Pcode numbers that were read by the dealer. The community here can help YOU diagnose the problem instead of relying solely what your dealer says is the problem. You'll definitely save yourself time & $$$$ :D When you go back to Porsche, have them give you all of the Pcodes that are being read (and were read previously for the MAF change) & bring 'em here....
  8. I'm curently using 265/35/18 rears and want to go to a 285 tire. I think 285/30/18 is the Porsche approved sizing. Am I correct that only difference between 285/30/18 vs. 285/35/18 is in sidewall height? Wwould a change to 285/35/18 throw off the speedometer readings? By how much?
  9. x5rap is correct, the guys at champion are wrong. Big surprise! I could tell you about other things Champion has been way off on in my own past dealings with them ..., but I promised my mother that if I had nothing good to say about someone I wouldn't say anything at all. :censored: Worn shocks (dunno about springs  ) will make the car float like a big sedan when going over uneven terrain. Just replaced the Bilsteins in my '79SC after it began to ride like a big 'ol caddy going over some patches of uneven road. When the guys at Foreign Affairs in Pompano  (just down the street from Champion) looked at the shocks they had been leaking. These were Bilstein inserts and they had lasted between 8 or 9 years without any racing...strictly daily driving. I've had the new shocks & struts in for a month & a half and the car stays planted firm when going over all terrain...even traintracks, etc. Overall the car feels noticeably tighter. :clapping:
  10. Yeah, I knew the prices would be kinda ugly for Porsche but I'm going to call Sunset just to see what I could get new ones for. Otherwise, I'm going the dismantler/ebay route. The cab rear deck is item #1. The color is blue. I don't know if Porsche used more than one blue for the fabric in 1999 but the cab top is blue also if that is any help...
  11. Yikes! I didn't realize that there was an option on the door. Is the leather / leatherette option for the airbag cover? I think the current one is leather. Hard to tell on the door pulls & storage cover. I guess I assumed I would re-use the current pulls, handles, & airbag cover. Was simply looking to replace the upper panel portion & lower carpet panel. For the lower carpet panel...it would be with speakers. I dunno what other options are related to the doors. Thanks again Loren!
  12. 1999 Zenith Blue / Savannah Beige C2 Cabriolet In the midst of restoring this wonderful car back to glory after original owner abused the interior. Looking to replace the following & need P/N for: Both Interior Door Panels Both Interior Rear Trim Panels Also, does Porsche sell the fabric for the entire rear shelf (rollbar area) on the cabriolet? I have a small tear and would like to replace or fix. I'm going to check with the national dismantlers but I'm considering replacing with new since I plan on keeping the car for a long time (if not forever!) Thanks in advance for the help!
  13. Never mind, I found my answer in the archives....Sorry!
  14. HELP! Outside of understanding what the stock offsets are on a 1999 C2 I've never been able to follow the discussions on the many variations of wheel/tire sizing that will work on a 996 narrowbody. I'm looking at a set of 18x8.5/10 wheels that are 52 & 58 mm offset respectively. Can I run these on my C2 Cab? Also, what size tires would be optimal? :drive:
  15. Was looking at picking up an e-brake handle secondhand and just wanted to confirm: I have a 1999 C2 and the handle is from a 2001 C2 (aluminum version). I assume all pre-2002's are the same or won't have a problem...Is that true?
  16. My guess is the dealer can tell. Is that the only wayy to find out the build date?
  17. I've run Sumitomo's the 5 years on my 1979 SC, 1999 996, & my brother's Boxster...couldn't be happier with the tire. Longest lasting, very quiet, best value. To be fair, I was prepared to buy S02's but my brother talked me into these tires and I'll never change since my car is only for the street. Can't beat the deal at Tirerack 25 40 18 $99, 285 30 18 $177...I checked all of the Pcar boards & Tirerack for reviews...took a chance and have never regretted it. I've used Pirellis, Dunlops, & Michelins...Sumitomo's have performed better and are very quiet in comparison to all of the others. To be fair, may not be the best wet tire performer out there, but they're certainly not bad at that either, just not the best. Look at the reviews on Tirerack and at that price you can afford to put new shoes on every year no problem (you won't NEED to because they last for ever!)...also leaves some $$$ for other upgrades like better alignmment & lowering!
  18. Fronts are left and right, satin black or silver (for 40 years version). Rears are stain black only. Let me know which color you want and I'll post part numbers. Do you have the hardware to mount the grilles? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I need the numbers for satin black. I would also need the hardware to mount. Thanks again Loren!
  19. Are the grilles in a Turbo bumper year specific? I guess the bumper is '02?
  20. Anyone have the Parts no. for the left & right front grilles? And also both grilles in the rear?
  21. I don't see where the transmission fluid can be checked on the engine. Owner's manual doesn't show you where to check like oil & hydraulic fluids, ...it tells you to bring it into dealer. How can I check the transmission fluid level...where would you add tranny fluid?
