  1. How in the world are they unable to recreate that mess? Why not leave the car with them for a week or two and ask them to drive it everyday a couple of times?
  2. Nothing for 3 grand... What are you're options? Well over 3k option SC for 10K Porsche's Power kit (forget the price, I think roughly 8k) More than 3k alternative Intake, Header, Exhaust, ECU...won't get you 350 but you'll have spent $$$ like it should have. Less unsprung weight in wallet will equal faster car. 3k Alternative Lightweight flywheel...won't improve HP but it will improve acceleration (maybe it will feel like 350) Downside is that introduces more noise and labor is equal to doing a clutch job.
  3. Would agree with LV about the RMS...don't worry about it until you HAVE to worry about it. Most cars never have a RMS issue and the new replacement seal seems to be the solution many had hoped for years would come. Now about the clutch...You may want to take the time and read some of the clutch related posts over on 6speedonline. One guy over there says Porsche has acknowledged a flaw in the pre -01 cars that caused premature failure. There is a small part replacement that should be done when the clutch is replaced to remedy it. Can't vouch for the accuracy of the post but worth reading.
  4. Actually they do make a 285/30/18, which is the rear tire size I will be purchasing. I still cannot believe I am getting 4 tires, installed and balanced for $590.00 total, what a deal. Through who? Tirerack?
  5. I've used them on a '79 911SC & '99 996 Cab... Great tire for the money. Excellent dry, good wet traction and EXTREMELY quiet. Very good looking tire. They wear fantastic and seem to last much longer than Pirelli or Brigestones I've used. Biggest problem for me now is that I prefer 285's on the rear and I don't think Sumi has this tire in that size. Not the best performance tire that you can buy, but good performance at an unbeatable price.
  6. Loren, Was wondering if it was possible to order the leather for factory sport seats from Porsche & get them installed myself? I have Savannah Beige sport seats in a 1999 C2 Cabriolet.
  7. OEM Turbo Decklids will not work on a narrowbody Need to get a Turbo Look lid and then buy a GT-2 style blade like Turbo owners do. Or, you can get in touch with 996wings.com. Misha sells a hyvrid GT-2/GT-3 style wing that looks great.

  9. I don't even want to beat a dead horse anymore since its been the only discussion in Indy since this morning but I will say this... Today all of the racing fans lost and F1 just got a huge black mark in the minds of alot of racing fans who traveled here from all over the world. It was so cool this morning before the race...it just ruined a great day. Anyway here's some of the pics from a great Supercup run (a small grin that the Porsche cars ran fine today)

  12. brought my IBM Thinkpad (small as hell) to download my digital camera pics and free up space on the card and "Lo and Behold" i'm online! Why didn't someone tell us all that these tracks have WiFi? i don't know how it's gonna be when i head over to the infield, but this is awesome while i'm in the grandstand.   13. I agree with LVDell & Loren that X74 is reccomended for 02+ cars but Gert has told me that 99-01 users have installed this setup with favorable results. I'm not reccomending it but if you want deeper answers Gert may provide. I was tempted to buy one for my '99 that Gert was selling at a nice discount. After much thought, I decided to pass...
  14. There is a Oricari [italy] kit that a guy regularly sells on Ebay. From the one or two that have installed it, I've only read good reviews. It isn't aero-free but its pretty understated and has an attractive price. Good luck hunting!
  15. Was wondering if new Tequip door kit had to be ordered of is it possible to paint beige door pulls and pocket covers? I noticed that bumperplugs sells the Tequip kit (so that may answer my question) but I was wondering if anybody knew more or has tried to paint 'em. :huh:
  16. Loren & gang...HELP!!! I recently bought sideskirts from internet vendor who advertised them as '99-01 RUF sideskirts. What I received yesterday was looks more like aero I side skirts than the RUF type I've seen in the catalog. As I looked over the skirts I found the following: 986.559.981.00 (wouldn't a RUF part No. appear somewhere if it really was a RUF skirt???) along with a little matrix imprinted on the inside that looked like this: ............1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 1996 1997.......x 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 I assume that means production in Feb of 1997...so how could these be RUF skirts for 99-01???? Loren, can you please tell me if that part number is even for a 996 or is it for a boxster? And, if its the P/N for a Aero I skirt? Is the matrix something that Porsche produces on a part like this? ALL help is mucho appreciated!
  17. 1999 C2 Cabriolet w/ 55k miles purchased...70k current. I've had a different experience with my 3rd party warranty company (mostly good) but don't totally disagree with DJantlive. I'm using Royal Administration (Lydon Insurance) and they have paid on a failed water pump, replacement of coolant tank, & replacement of cam seals. I paid roughly $2,300 for bumper to bumper for two years when I bought the car as its second owner April '04. They have not been difficult to work with and have pretty much ok'd everything by phone with my shop without me ever getting involved. My shop simply calls them when they begin working on the car and make a claim call if they find something. Royal also covers all electrical including cabriolet top motors, etc. & the RMS seal. Sounds perfect? Well..... Royal covers parts (expected) & labor @ $85/hr. The second half of that statement wasn't so great when I lived in SF, where labor rates are ridiculous and can run as high as double other areas of the country. :eek: (Its not a snobbish cool to live in Northern California...just flippin expensive for no good reason... and I've owned Porsche's in NY & Miami previous to this) In most cases, the shop was able to jiggle the work hours down a bit so that the majority of the job was covered by the insurance payment. In the end, if I hadn't bought the warranty I would have paid for the water tank & coolant tank year 1 ...100% out of pocket. With the insurance, I paid a little and the majority was covered by Royal...and I know if I didn't have Royal to share the costs of repair I wouldn't have done the cams on my own. I personally would have kept on driving given it wasn't that bad in my estimation... it was only noticed during a clutch replacement. Ultimately, if you're buying a car second hand ...its a re-assuring thing to have. If you're the original owner and are a good P-owner it may not be necessary. (All of this assumes you don't have a catastrophic failure which is when the warranty really proves its value!) :king:
  18. Champion Motorsport sells lowering springs for the 996 and I was wondering if anybody on this board knew who the manufacturer is? I guessing H&R but was wondering if anbody knew for sure. *** Actually, after checking the archives I read Boca996's post and these factory lowering springs are also sold by FVD USA & Techart (GermanTech) and are recomended by PCNA as a standalone suspension upgrade ***
