  1. i had a rattle there too, it was my whell lock and my tire gague in my passenger door storage box.
  2. This is a link to my car and my AVIC-Z2 install. It was a little pricy but well worth it. No it did not require rewiring. http://www.autosoundspecialists.com/comp-i...sche/index.html Good luck perry
  3. I had my PCM1 nav/radio/tape/CD changer unit removed and replaced with a AVIC-Z2 in-dash unit take a look this is actually my car before and after photo's. http://www.autosoundspecialists.com/comp-i...sche/index.html If the link does not show copy and paste. r/perry
  4. I have taken my 1999 C4 to the dealer for "backup lights not working" at least 4 times now. I'm told the position of the switch that detects my transmission is in reverse requires adjusting. My question is where is the switch located and how can I adjust and lock (locktite) it down so they will work without paying the dealer an hour every couple of months? My transmission is a 6 speed manual. Thank you in advance for any tips......... :D
  5. I run the higher pressure in my tires, and due to the hard ride I use 100% Nitrogen in my tires. The molecule is larger, not only is the ride a little softer, it's also not as noisy.
  6. Hi: I have a 1999 C4 with PCM I. I want to install XM radio in my C4 but I don't want an after market radio, or something hanging off my dash. I noticed a few photo's of XM installed in a Cayman with PCM I and the nav screen allowed display of the signal, station, title, etc. while the radio used the controls on the PCM. My question is does anybody know where I can go to buy, and or have installed such a system? Thank you, Perry :notworthy:
  7. Steve: Do you have part numbers? I have a C4 with nav and I want to put XM in the car. I have it in all of my other vehicles, and miss it in my C4. Thanks, Perry
  8. I for one would be very happy :clapping: and I will bring the pizza and brewski's  I've ordered a decoder to install on my old Dell laptop, I can bring that along for members to use (if it's here before the work on car date) Thanks Perry
  9. Sorry to hear you are having so many minor issues that together are large. My 1997 daily driver has 136K miles I've had some minor issues arrise from time to time, but thanks to this BB I've been able to take care of them and keep on driving. I'd like to bring to your attention that a double beep when locking your car with key or remote is telling you the car is NOT locked - one of the sensors, top, window, door is not making a complete circuit and there fore the lock will engage and quickly disengage (double beep). It's not something you should just let go unless you never leave your car unattended...... just my experience :(
  10. Thanks Loren: I'll pull the light today to see if that's the problem. :D
  11. I have a 97 Boxster that I've just upgraded to Litronic's I followed the instructions on the DVD to the letter. My problem is the driver side parking light, or Day Time Running Light, which ever you prefer does not work. I thought it was the bulb, so I replaced it. Not the bulb. Can someone give me a hint where to begin my trouble shooting? All other lights work as advertised. I upgraded my "daily driver" because I have a loooong commute on a two lane winding canyon road (now I love that part) and wanted the extra light. I would appreciate any and all tips. :help:
  12. Buyer beware  Not even on older model 924, 944's.
  13. :D Count me in - I'll supply the brew and snacks. Please tell me where and what time, I'll be there.
  14. :clapping: So is the 8th and the 22nd on? I would love to change my headlamps. I have a 97 with original lamps and a new set of litronics I'd very much like to put in. I've viewed the DVD several times but always chicken out when I pull into the garage to actually "do it". . . .
  15. If you read your owners manual you'll read that acording to Porsche a good sports car is not the place to listen to music. I don't care what you do with your original radio you will not get any better reception. Even replacing the antenna will do little to help. Even you you install XM (I did with a top of the line Alpine) and still get poor reception. I do play CD's for good tunes, in flat land the XM is very good, but FM/AM is not much better than an old crystal radio. go to www.crutchfield.com and check out the Alpine's. I've one thing left and that is to install a new antenna, windshield type. Good luck :D
  16. [how are the lights behind the tach, fuel, temp gauges? I've replaced bulbs, twice (the possibilities of having two sets of bad bulbs are too high to calculate). Still no lights. Someone told me once the cluster is removed from the car the dealer had to reset something to get those sets of lights to function again. Is this true? Thanks to all.
  17. The Palo Alto Speedometer shop put white faces on my Gauges. Since then the lights on my analog Gages are out. Light comes through the face, the lights don't work. They are not burned out, they get no juice. So today I trek back to Palo Alto to ask them to correct the problem. Not only did they claim I broke them, they also pointed out the needles were out of calibration. In short they did nothing to resolve the issue, not even to point out what may or may not be the problem. So working with that shop again is not going to happen for me - but that's my issue. What I really need is some advise on how can I get the lights behind my analog Gauges to once again work? I've checked fuses, replaced bulbs, sacrificed a cheeseburger and a brew. Nothing works, nothing! HELP ! ! ! :)
  18. You make a very valid point. Sometimes there is value in owning an older porsche.....
  19. I need to add the 3rd radiator. Story: At 55K miles the engine in my 97 Boxster failed. Still under Porsche warrantee, Porsche replaced the engine. What they neglected to tell me was the engine they installed was a 3.1S engine. The engine is bigger, and needs more cooling. The cost of a 3rd radiator is so close to replacing the engine with the correct size I'm letting the car sit while I ponder my choices.
  20. Solve your problems go to www.crutchfield.com they have the hardware you seek for $20. While you're there look at the Alpine with integrated XM. I tried putting in satellite radio and sirius, but the space behind the radio is not enough for the receiver. So I removed the Becker radio (which was poor at it's best) and replaced it with the Alpine XM//CD Receiver CDA-9820XM.... great radio, great tunes. :clapping:
  21. While the clips hold in high winds, the vibration setting in can and does weaken the plastic. My clips failed and my plastic took off when I had the top down, and at a speed of 75mph rolled down both side windows (don't ask me why I did that - the buttons were just too tempting I guess). It only took a second then wham! out the back it went. Caution is the word on the clips and routine inspection especiall before the summer season is advised.
  22. No, not if you want a professional job done. There are however several high end shops that can align your Porsche. Check listing is Panaroma, a great resource for all Porsche owners.
  23. I'm not certain but it looks to me like this is a problem with all the Boxsters with Triptronic's. In my case if I turn on the AC unit I can drive almost 5 miles before the temp. redlines and the car chokes out and stops. I've checked everything, cleaned out the radiator vents, replaced all the fuses, just about everything I can think of. Where I live the afternoon temp. gets over a 100F. For me this is so serious a problem my car now sits in a Porsche shop awaiting complete and detail analysis.
  24. If you go to www.crutchfield.com and do a search for what fits my car put in your boxster info and you'll get all the issues answered. VW plugs do not fit all radio's check out the different Becker in just the 2000 Boxsters. Save time and money go to crutchfield and get everything you need. I did my exchange for the Alpin AM/FM/CD/XM from removeal to driving in under 3 hours with the right parts.
