  1. Pancho: Definitely fill the gas tank as that will minimize condensation inside the tank. Also, it would be a good idea to treat the gas (just before you fill it before storage) with either StarTron by Starbrite or Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer for ethanol-laced gas. . Those products will help to prevent any breakdown and separation of the gas. (Note that I am assuming that you have the curse of ethanol in Canada). Before you disconnect the battery, read the article in a recent issue of Excellence magazine about the possible ill effects of doing so that some have experienced. +1 for inflating the tires and putting them up on scraps of carpet. Regards, Maurice.
  2. I normally drive my car all winter, except this winter, as I am going to be away for 8 weeks. I live in house with no garage, but rent an underground condo space nearby, unfortunatly there is no available electric supply for a trickle charger or maintainer. I have just had a new battery installed (died in downtown Toronto a couple of weeks ago!). I have no one to move my car while I am away. During the winter, when the snow is too deep to drive, or icy, if I am not driving for a few days, I hook up a small solar charger to my cigarette lighter .... but doubt this will help underground under flourescent light??? Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can save my new battery? the dealership told me that if I allow the battery to go flat, and then recharge it, it will never recover? and.. should I inflate my tires? put something under them to avoid contact with the cement floor? fill the gas tank? What can I do? all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
  3. Just had my clutch replaced by Porsche dealership (Toronto Downtown) in my (6 speed) '04 4s, 43,000 kms, cost C$1900 (+tax). I didn't realise that my clutch was becoming heavier and heavier then it started to shudder starting off in first, they replaced it same day. I was lucky, as I took it in immediatly, so no other damage. The difference is unbelievable, it's now light, engages easily, and my car feels like new!
  4. Oh I forgot to add......... my steering is back to perfect with my new front tires!
  5. Thank you for your responses. I am dealing with an official P service, and we have discovered what is causing the problem. They suggested it might be my tires, but as I had plenty of tread, it seemed unlikely. In searching the net, I came accross the attached (see below ABC news) item, and checked the codes on my tires. The front ones are dated 2004, and are obviously the original ('04 4s cab. -I bought the car in '07). I did change the rears in '08 (these are dated '07!). I drive my car in winter, and have snows on rims. My car has done 41k in total, and I believe the previous owner didn't drive in winter. All that to say, is that although I had sufficent tread left, when we examined the two front tires, the shape/contour was irregular and had changed/deteriorated with age, not necessarily wear. I admit to being one of the more uneducated members of this forum, so perhaps my epithany is 101 to everyone else, but the news item was a relevation to me, and I thought perhaps there are other fellow members who didn't realise that a tire isn't necessarily safe just because it has tread, the age is equally important. Finally, I checked the dates of my two new front ones, they were manufactured in 2008! However, I was told the I was lucky to get them, as they match my rears, otherwise I would have had to buy 4 NEW PS2? (at least I think that's what they said... the latest from Michelin!) I hope this is of interest. http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=4826897
  6. I took my car in to have my summers installed and was advised to have an alignment as there was edge wear on my winters. When I collected it, the car pulled (horribly) to the left. The dealership told me that the machine needed to be recalibrated, and they then carried out an alignment on my car. It was still pulling to the right (less so) but when corrected pulled left, although the printout showed it was perfectly aligned. The tech. adjusted the alignment after we both drove the car, and it seemed ok. However, after driving it for a day or two, found it pulling slightly both left and right. I have arranged to return tomorrow, please can anyone offer any advice? there has been no impact, and the dealership agrees the problem arose when they first tried to align the steering. Any feedback is much appreciated. thanks.
  7. hi, I would be most grateful if anyone could help? I am trying to replace my worn out drivers side black floor mat (2004 911 (996) 4S (with Bose, was told that this makes a difference). I have been quoted $244 +tax for a set of 4 (Porsche dealer price Toronto), which I don't need! I can live without the Porsch embroidery, if necessary! any help appreciated.
  8. Thank you. Finally discovered both trims on the roof, which run front to back on either side, were removed and very badly repaired (putty filled/ over sprayed, poorly fitting), by the previous owner. I guess the hardtop was damaged at some time. I purchased the car (with hardtop) from a very reputable dealer and called him. He will contact the previous owner, but it looks like I must bear cost (total $1100), even though I only bought the car this summer! Thanks for responding!
  9. update to above: the dealership discovered that the front seal/rim on the hardtop had been damaged and badly repaired by the previous owner. Quote C$850 + shipping + labour
  10. I bought a 2004 4S convertible (996?) this summer. It came with snows and hardtop. Porsche installed both last week. Water leaks in from both top edge sides of windscreen where the roof sits on windscreen when it rains. I took it back, the dealer siliconed all joining edges, but water streams in. Can anyone help please? Also, they told me I could take it through a touchless car wash, I tried it before it rained, and had to go home to change as I was soaked!
