  1. what about the torque for the caliper itself on a 2002 996 I'm rebuilding my calipers. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hey everyone, Does anyone know how to replace the servo spring in the clutch pedal? Any diagrams? I just had my clutch replaced, but they are saying that the pedal is still a bit stiff. They claim that it is the servo spring in the clutch that needs to be replaced. I was told that this is a rare problem, where the spring becomes faulty. $55.00 some odd dollars for the part. Very reasonable, but $188 for parts with labor (2 hours). Does anyone know how to replace this? Is it a job worth taking on ? THanks oh btw... It's a 2002 C2 Carrera.
  3. Currently, sunsetimports.com is selling replacement keys for only 88.45-$105. But dont' we have to go to our local dealer to reprogram it; in addition to cutting a new blade? If so, wouldn't that bring back the price for a replacement to around $250? I'm just looking for the best way (cheapest) to get a replacement key. Thanks.
  4. Would instructions for a clutch job on a 986 boxster be practically the same for an 02 996 c2?
  5. Thanks. Actually I found this site right after I started this thread. Its good to know that the job was successful from these instructions. Did you change the RMS as well? If so, did you use the Porsche tool?
  6. Sorry everyone, but I've been searching and searching. I'm looking for instructions on doing a thorough clutch job. I may have to replace my flywheel also. I've been searching for manuals and books for my 2002 C2, but I cannot seem to find anything. Anyone have any advice?
  7. I'll try to take some pictures and post them. Anyone else?
  8. This may be a very noob question, but do I have any type of "upgraded" exhaust? I was washing my car and I noticed that the muffler was enscribed Gemballa. Though I know who Gemballa is, the reason I ask is because my exhaust sounds decently aggressive. Just a thought. Please let me know anyone! Thanks! BTW. It's very nice to actually be a 911 owner now. I recently went from a Boxster to the 9-1-1. Ahem, Carrera. '02 C2. HUGE difference.
  9. When I drove my car a little hard, the clutch seemed to slip a bit. After getting into 2nd, while the clutch pedal was fully disengaged, the RPM revved up a bit and the clutch caught. The tires dont chirp in 2nd either. I normally do not drive it this hard at all, but I had to determine the clutch's status. I think I need a new clutch. Price seems very close here in Cali. $1250 for a clutch job. If the bearing job is about $600 there, i think it's best just to do all of it at once. (plus there was no record of any clutch job being done already)
  10. Yeah, I remember my boxster was night and day also. hopefully that's the same for the '02 C2. The fact that the mechanic stated that the 02 996 have a "hydraulic clutch that shouldn't have much of a change in the pedal" questions my thoughts of a new clutch. Anyone have any experience on a clutch change for 02-04s?
  11. Sorry if this was brought up before. But I had a '98 986 before, and i was told if the clutch was getting harder and harder to press down, it meant that the life of the clutch is wearing out. However, when I spoke with a porsche mechanic, he stated that the '02 new gen 996 have hydraulic clutches, and the pressure of the pedal doesn't necessarily increase. Instead the play area for engagement increases toward the inside of the cockpit. I sat in a 996 that recently had it's clutch done, and I'd have to say that it felt a bit lighter than mine; not a whole lot, but it was definantly lighter and smoother. What do you guys think?
  12. I had a 98 boxster. It was great; however, I sold it for school purposes. Now, I can't concentrate at school knowing that I rid myself of my pride an joy of being a Porsche owner. Now, I am ready to buy a 996 '02. Beautiful in all it's ways, but it has a lot of miles on it. Over 80k. But for me, the price was right; it will be my weekend getaway car (aka garage queen). Therefore, I'm okay with the high miles. As a student, I cannot afford to buy a 911 in pristine shape. I'm buying it to remind myself of my goals and ambition. Call it crazy, but I've been more focused and study a lot better than before. It may have been because I've regretted getting rid of my Boxster long ago. Buy your 996 if it makes you happy. If I were you, I would do it because it sounds like you feel restricted. In other words, no matter how much you upgrade your boxster you won't feel complete without owning a 911.
  13. How high do you guys think I need to go if I were going to do a Clutch job? I read somewhere that someone went up 24 inches! If I were to go anything above 20 inches, it should still be safe right?
  14. Did you have to replace the whole pedal? (996 423 139 10 Pedal) And any other parts that you would recommend?
  15. I just quoted $1450.00 parts and labor including the RMS at http://www.hergesheimer.com/. An ex-Porschedealer mechanic in Riverside said anywhere from 500-1400 including the RMS replacement. Both were estimated for an all day repair. (i.e. 8am-5pm). Any thoughts? BTW my estimates were for a 98 boxster
