  1. Funny, I was thinking about doing that last night while lying in bed. I also thought they might look cool Guards Red to match the car. But I bought a set of Porsche Crest valve stems covers, the long ones, and they are too long so they don't fit - I was thinking of sending them back for a credit against a set of Black lug nut covers.
  2. Does Porsche make them or aftermarket? The lug nuts on my nnew Boxster S are already looking crappy and Black covers would look good and cover them up. Thanks in advance...Bob Z.
  3. Is there a way to make the side windows stay all the way up when the doors are open, so that they can be tinted?
  4. Bob, it takes 10 minutes. My dealership did it for free prior to delivery. The salesman gave the mechanic a $20 tip. I gave my salesman the $20 at delivery to make him whole & even. You should call your salesperson, and put the heat on him/her. That is exactly what I planned to do - give the tech $20 for his or her time. It sounds like the salesman went to service and had them look up the time in the estimated repair time book. Maybe they are trying to get as much coin out of me as possible due to the big discount they gave me on the order :)
  5. So, if I want to disconnect the vacuum lines so the valves are always open, where are they until the car? Can I get to them without putting the car on a lift?
  6. Thanks all. I have printed all the DIY instructions and notes from the various sites and will look them over well before attempting the swap. I would have thought the dealer would do it as a courtesy but if they are saying 1.5 hours (times their labor rate) I can see why they won't.
  7. My dealer told me 1.5 hours to remove and re-install the side vents on a 2008 Boxster S - I am getting Red ones and thought it would be easier to have them sent to the dealer and have them do it since some have said it is easy to break the clips, etc. But that seems like way too long - wonder if they are going by some sort of service manual approximate time for the job - anyone know? Regardless, I think I can do them myself in less time and will take my time and be careful. And if 1.5 hours is the time some Porsche service book says it will take I can see why people tend to avoid dealers unless for warranty work!
  8. I was happy that they asked for a 5% down payment since I could use my credit card and get miles on it! If I could have bought the car with my credit card I would have (I always pay it off each month). The other dealer who offered me the same discount, but was further away, wanted a $1k deposit.
  9. And don't forget Black, such as is found on the Orange Special Edition Boxsters (I bought the Boxster S Black emblems for my Red car).
  10. I ordered a 2008 Boxster S in early November 2007, January build and I expect it in 2-3 weeks. I discussed prices with the 3 closest dealers to me and one offered me 9.5% off and the other two offered 10% off (after back & forth negotiations of course). I wound up ordering from the dealer closest to me for 10% off and a 5% deposit. For what it is worth, I did not have a trade-in vehicle.
  11. Does anyone know if the suspension on the Boxster (987) and Cayman is the same? I have a set of H&R springs (part# 29168-1) for the 987 Boxster S I have and someone with a Cayman might be interested in buying them; however, H&R has different part#s. But I thought the suspensions were the same. By the way, H&R could not give us a definitive answer.
  12. Thanks much. I would assume that they will be offered eventually since once again, if an owner needs to replace them (factory parts) I doubt Porsche would expect that owner to get a set painted! Or so I hope!
  13. I figured that since I can get the Black emblem from the factory I could get the Black side vents from the factory as well; not inclined to spend $289 for a pair from Bumper Plugs or take mine off and get them painted. And yes, I want them for my Red/Black 987 S.
  14. I am trying to locate part#s for the Black side vents that come on the 2008 Orange Special Edition Boxsters. I was able to get the one for the Black rear emblem albeit it took a while since it was new. Surely Porsche must be able to supply them (or will in the future) - they'll be needed for accident repairs, owners who break them, etc. Thanks in advance...Bob Z.
  15. And needless to say, keep copies of all receipts, etc. for the oil, filter, and anything else you buy just in case they question it.
  16. Hmmm, sounds like there might be a resonator...I will check it when the car gets here. And if there is one I think I will experiment and cut it out since based on past experience on other cars, getting rid of the resonator improves the sound.
  17. Is there one? My 2008 (with the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) option) should be here in a month or so and I am thinking ahead. I have found on past cars that the sound improves by simply cutting the resonator out and welding in a straight piece of pipe. Or maybe someone had tried it?
  18. Great reading but what is the bottom line - my '08 Boxster S is on order so when should I do it's first oil change?
