01 S 28K miles original owner .
My Check Engine light came on a couple of weeks ago , I took it to the dealer who nicely checked the problem and said that if it returned he would probably have to order an oxygen sensor . So after 4-5 days it returned. Now what ? is this something I should attempt or not ? If I have the dealer do it what kind of $$ am I looking at ?
This has gotten me to start thinking of getting an OBD scanner , any recs?

I am curious to hear what people think between buying an 08 S vs an 09 S . I certainly like the 09 electronic improvements ie Bluetooth and IPOD integration , but 08s can be had at a better price. Any other thoughts or known improvements in 09s to push me towards paying a little more ?
-
Does anyone know of a list/website for phones that are compatable with the bluetooth option in 09s . I just called Porsche of america and they were no help. I have a Blackberry Curve from Verizon .
Here you go;
http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/MJ09_...luetooth_UK.PDF
Thanks. Amazing that my dealer couldnt find this and even talked with his North America Rep who didnt have the info. I forwarded it to him. I think this is the UK version , but will assume/hope the US is the same.

I have a 01 S , the top works great but I have never done anything to it. Is there some basic maintenance ie tightening/lube to the mechanism that I should do ?

Revjim99, your problem sound identcal to my wifes 04 CS. The build date was nov 04. She started noticing hard shifting at freeway speeds (55-70 mph) Most of the time it happened while the car was downshifting to perform a passing manuver. Sometimes it was real bad. Took the car to the dealer and they ended up replacing the valve boby for the transmission. Total cost was about $2000.00 usd. Good luck!
I have a 04 S with 40 K miles. I took it in with a similar complaint although my stutters ( to the point of feeling like the car is shaking. It occurs usually when I am accellerating lightly around 15-25 mph . The dealer test drove it and for once felt my complaint. He has said it is the valve body in the transmission. ( I have no idea what that is ) Our main mechanic is out ( surgery) and they will repair it when he returns. I was skeptical of this diagnosis until you ( shastamonk) mention the same thing... Did it work ??

The V1 has its strengths, but it also receives complaints on its high rate of false alarms and its bulkiness. There are other detectors that are as good as a V1, such as the Escort 9500i in terms of sensitivity. What many people seem to love about the V1 is that it tells you which direction the threat is coming from. If you think about it, that is pretty much useless information since the reaction in all cases will be exactly the same - slow down. I wouldn't give a hoot about knowing where it is because it won't affect my response.
Once you use the valentine for a while, the direction arrows become invaluable . It is very accurate letting you know if you are approaching a radar source or pulling away from one . I agree that the Escorts pick up radar just as well and that is what I had prior to the valentine. I personally am amazed that Escort hasn't copied Valentine and put directional arrows on. I will not consider an Escort again until they do .

Hello All
Can some body help me in picking up a correct and perfect radar detector. So many choices!
Thanks
There is no question...... the valentine is the best unless you want to spend $ 1000 to have one wired into front and back of car . The valentine can be upgraded by sending it in as needed. check their site http://www.valentineone.com/

Im trying to configure an order for a 2007 997S
I have ruled out the Sport exhaust as it is a lot of money for a little more noise with no performance benefit.
Im trying to decide about the sport chrono package. The order guide and Porsche website are vague about what the extra controls ie lights , locks and climate control are. Can someone with this explain what these extra controls/settings are ? I am not thrilled about the dashboard "bubble".
Anyone have the sport seats ? ...I will be the sole driver..Is the Electric seat package worthwhile ?
The extended Navigation is it worthwhile ? I am going to at least get Regular Navi.
The Stainless Exhaust tips...worthwhile or can I get after-market if I wish I had later.
I am not getting the phone module but like the multifunction wheel.. Is that worthwhile just for radio controls/...
Am I missing any other must haves ????
Thanks everyone ...I only want to do this once...

Thanks......I did go through the order guides and all I could find was TPMS also. That probably accounts for price increase.

Today I installed the Becker part into the back of my CDR220. It works great and was very easy. I am using the headphone jack for the output and find that most of the volume needs to be adjusted at the IPOD with the CDR220 turned to max volume. Can I use a docking cable directly into the RCA jacks and will this allow me to control the volume via the stereo ? I have read the Belkin auto kit descriptions , This doesn't interest me. I don't need the charging capability in the car.
I thought I would give my own follow up. I found that I could use the Dock and plug the headphone to rca cable into the back of the dock and now my volume is strictly controlled by the stereo not the IPOD . Now I just need to find a cable that fits into the bottom of the IPOD and ends in the 2 rca jacks so I dont have to drive around with a docked IPOD on the passenger seat.
Any suggestions???

How does the CDC plug into the receiver ? Not something you can disconnect or jump into ??
this is one of the most (MOST) discussed topics with a simple answer "NO". Vent your frustration to Porshe but they don't read this forum. Sometimes I wonder if they even know that computers and mp3 exist.Called Dension a week ago, they said something is comming up in the next two months. but then again they said the same a year ago.
-
I haven't seen this discussed.
I have a 2004 Cayenne S with Navigation and a CD changer. Is there anyway to disconnect the CDC and put the Ipod inline ???. I would happily sacrifice the CDC to do this .
-
I think I saw this discussed before but cant find it.
My rear window( 2004 S ) has decided to continuously unlatch itself. I cant get into the dealer for 5 days to get it fixed . any ideas on how to stop this????
-
No it doesn't

Its happened to me several times but I'm not sure if it is because I'm accidentally hitting the tiptronic which I know I have done sometimes. I need to pay more attention as to whether it says M1 or D1

any comments on the speakers that go behind the driver and passenger seats? Are they worth it and how easy is it to install? Any comments at all would be nice.
I have an 01 S
I put the rear speaker set in . I think they improve the sound a lot. Not the best speakers out there but the kit was worth the price. If you are not real handy ,There were some places (Paris Audio..not sure if still around ) that you could ship the rear shelf unit to and they would install a better set for you and return it all ready to put back in car. I enjoyed the install.
I just found the post I put on porsche petes after install.. here is a copy:
I just finished the rear speaker kit and despite some frustrations installing it is the cheapest improvement out there for a Porsche.
I followed the instructions on pelicanparts.com and would like to add some suggestions.
Removal the Bins from Storage Compartment
I used a soldering iron to soften up the epoxy (or whatever it is)then a straight razor to cut down through. there are tabs on each side which need to be depressed to get out the bins which was difficult as I had glue into those but with patience got them out.
Installing the grills:
I had to grind a lot to get them to fit. I guarantee I wasnt doing anything wrong. They are not made to just snap in but look great after some work.
Installing the Wiring Harness:
The white plastic clip holds the plugs connecting the wires from the front and wires from rear box. The plug slides onto the clip.
I was not excited about pulling up the carpeting in front to run wires and was able to do so nicely. when you take off thepassenger side dash cover, if you look underneath on the right side wall you will see a bunch of wires heading down and eventually under the door sill where you will run your wire from the rear. Pass one of the cable ties down along these wires and it will eventually pass into the sill . You can attach the wires from rear and pull gently to feed them up . Use the tie to feed cable up towards radio . Also use tie by passing into radio compartment and out the back to pull wires int back of compartment .
When putting the wires into the brown Plug make sure they are absolutely in the right place because once pushed in I could not figure out in any way how to change them .

My 04 Cayenne S has it . I don't find it that useful. I also have a Boxster S and wouldn't add it . Most of the time I'm going too fast to need signals :P

I just hardwired my V1
Mounted under mirror ,then ran wire along top of windshield . At the pillar tuck it into top of "airbag trim" around to rubber doorseal ,Then down under seal and can go right into fuse box on drivers side. The hard wire that comes with V1 has an end with a male connector covered with blue plastic . trim off the plastic and push it into fuse location # 48 (switched)in the bottom ( you can look and see that the bottom spot has metal clips ,The top doesn't. this should make sense when you look ) The ground can be attached to any screw attached to metal. If you have the concealed display you can run that wire from inside the fuse box to the steering column so that it comes out on top of column. I attached with supplied velcro right to column. It works great.

search on roadfly.org there are a couple of comments about going int fuse box on passenger side and using fuse position # 48

They all have the triangle with a P .It is made up of a thin triangle and a semicircle forming a P ,then all inside a triangle. There is also a BBS stamp . They look exactly like the 18" C turbos on my CS. Maybe I'll have to take one off to compare. I have not weighed them ,but I'll check .
-
I just received some 18" cayenne turbo rims which I bought on ebay . 3 of them have been mounted before and 1 appears not to have been previously mounted, this one has a rougher finish around the rim (the part that will be inside the tire when mounted)while the other 3 have a smooth finish. It makes me worry that one/all may not be OEM as they were advertised. Any thoughts / help?????
Sport Chrono or not with PDK
in 997-2 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S, Carrera GTS, 911 Speedster)
Posted
Am looking at a C2S on the lot with PDK but no Sport chrono. Would like some opinions on value of Sport chrono. Truthfully I dont like the clock on dash so thats good. The launch control is fun ( tried it on another car ) but think unless Im on the track (no plans to be ) this is a short term novelty.
My main concern is the value in the remapping of throttle response and shift points. And also this added adjustments of A/C lights .....?????
Is there some automatic remapping of throttle response during spirited driving ?
I guess to sum up, If im driving in Manual mode is there much difference between this and auto with sport plus button on ?
Thanks
