  1. WOW, I was about to embark on a quest, I think it may have been cut short. And gladly so. TP I couldn't find any DIY for this is there any Diagrams or instructions with regards to the Throttle body/ Idle stabilizer.
  2. The purpose of this thread is to troubleshoot this problem until I solve it. Even if I have to take it to the dealer do get it done. Step by step so hopefully nobody else has to for this problem. Brief summary of why it is not the MAF. -Old MAF 986 606 125 00 car was running ruff P1128 P1130 codes popped CE light ( fuel air mixture lean ) -Dealer & I checked for Vacuum leaks & found none. -Replacement MAF 986 606 125 01 car runs good No codes or CE light but Idle is hunting. - Dealer states no software upgrade is needed for replacement MAF. and suggests the New MAF is bad, since then 3 New replacement MAF have been put in and hunting is still present. - For kicks I put the old MAF back in and the idle is fine but old problem is their rides ruff and old codes pop up again. - Unhooked the car overnight to reset any old MAF parameters in ECU (Cause of a hood lock out but that is a separate thread) After I fix the hood cable I will start fresh on the hunting Idle problem. Special thanks to TP, Loren, and Scott for their help. Scott has given me great materials and there is an "oil separator" lead that I need to dedicate more time and attention to. wish me luck! J
  3. First order of business, HAHAHAhaaa lol That pic was priceless! No thanks Tool Pants you can keep Larry's Number! " Theres Good news and Bad news" First the good news I got the hood open :clapping: and here is how I did it ...first I tried the screwdriver trick which I must be honest Im not sure if I was doing correctly but I could not get it. So I went in to perform surgery there were 3 bolts the the first on was a no problem the second one was harder but the third on was impossible with the allan key I had, mainly due to in accessibility. the seat was in the way and I could not get a perpendicular angle to engage the head on the allan bolt. I had an idea to come to the manf. floor of our plant today and get my lab tech to cut the allan key to shorten it or even to bend it 90 degrees so I could get in there. but impatience got the best of me. I took the plastic panel from the free end and pivoted it up as much as possible upon seeing the forward cable I took my freehand & pliers and gave it a pull that I put more force gradually until the trunk released. " The bad news is I cant shut the trunk it wont click and stay down" :cursing: I should have been patient and modified the allan key but the cable was too tempting so i jimmied it. BTW I started the vehicle, my original idle problem is there with the third NEW MAF I put in but that is a separate thread I will post in later. is there a way to tighten the cable or adjust it somehow!
  4. I will do the 20 scrapes from left to right on the front lever with a small flat head screwdriver than I will pop plugs and loosten friction allan screws. Hopefully something will work. Thanx J
  5. Hey that sounds like it wont be that hard I will try that when I get home. THANX
  6. No it is not hooked up both leads are off but ... i know what your thinking how is the fob opening the trunk. ???
  7. I guess that opening is too small to rotate the cam with micro tweezers, it would make rotating it alot easier.... i will give it a shot, I will also try the cig. lighter thing after I pic up a fuse for it . I will report my findings ASAP
  8. I think the alarm must have been on when the battery was disconnected. I tried the cig. lighter trick I made a male to male cable. and I was getting somewhere but the fuse blew in the cig lighter adapter. anyway for the while it was working I had power to the dash cluster & interior lights and the windows were going up but the levers would not open the cam under the leavers. I tried unlocking the car with my FOB key but ill I kept getting was the 1 honk. I also noted that the gas cap would not open I did get the trunk open with the FOB. Is there anywa to deactivate the alarm with the interior electronics working thru the cig lighter. Also when you say " left to right" with the screwdriver do you mean fore-aft right ? And also TP in the above pic just to clearify were pushing the screwdriver forward so the cam is moving backward in the car? Thanx for all the help guys
  9. Cool I will give it a shot thanx ... if not a I am assuming a 12 volt should do with the cig. lighter? Thanx
  10. I do have the 2000 but the levers wont pull up so I amb not sure if the alarm is engaged or not How would I attach the 12V to the cigarette lighter.... pull it out and attach wires? and im not sure what a trickle charger is where can I get one. I called Porshe Road side assistance and they said I need to get a male to male cigarette lighter , and that should be enough juice I called all the auto places they dont have them, but im thinking I can just cut and attach but I dont want to risk messing with the electrical system. they said if I had AAA they send out a tow truck with a jump box and the cigarette lighter connection.
  11. I had the Battery unhooked so I could clear the check engine light I was gone for 5 mins and my brilliant GF shut the hood. I can get into the car with a key but as you know you cant release the hood without power. Any Ideas at all. I have a feeling it is going to be a long day Thanx guys
  12. Well Im not sure the PST2 would make a difference because I took it to the dealer and there was nothing wrong with the car the codes had been eraced and the screen on the PST2 was blank it was not reading anything.
  13. I see so the patch is not needed, great at least I got that out of my system, so I guess the next plan is to go after the Throttle body Thanx scott for emailing me the Throttle body JPEGS TP you asked if your assumption was correct earlier "Am I correct that you did not have an idle issue until the sensor was replaced." was that to rule in/out the throttle body cleaning for the hunting idle? TIA
  14. Yes TL, that is correct so does that sound like the problem, how is it that spontaneously the Throttle body may be the problem when the Old MAF did not render the hunting Idle. It is odd that you should mention it because the dealer mentioned the same course of action. There must be a reason but I'm missing it. and also I know we have been through this before but the dealer is telling me different. He said there is no sowftware patch needed when going from 986 606 125 00 to new part number 986 606 125 01 because in a different post recently you mentioned you need the software upgrade unless the replacement is the same part number? Thanx for your insight
  15. OK I just got back from the Porsche dealer. He hooked it up to the PST2 and showed me that the DME was clear there were no faults in the memory! And there was no software upgrade needed for the new MAF. And he also checked for vacum leaks and found none. He said I would need to leave it for the rest of the day for him to find the problem. He also mentioned the next steps that he would take in troubleshooting the problem - replace the the MAF with the old one in the trunk to see if the car has a loping idle and also to do some accelerated test to bring up the original fault codes P1128 and P1130 - than put in a known good MAF ( even though mine is new ) just to rule out the MAF. -he said he would go after the throttle body, when I asked to replace it he said "NO" and item like that could probably be cleaned. my question is if he does his accelerated test and pops up the same codes on the PST2 is it going to to tell him any more than what we know? and rather than pay 4-6 hours of labour till he gets to cleaning the throttle body (everything else has already been done vacume leak, MAF, checking software) why dont I clean the throttlebody myself! I searched the DIY Forum for throttle body but could not find anything can someone help direct me on how and what to clean on a throttle body. TIA
  16. THANX Scott , I will be at the dealer at lunch i will let you know
  17. Thanx TL when you say first version do you mean 986 606 125 01 (first version) ? and this is the original version 986 606 125 00 (original version)? The CE is not on now and the engine idle was fine before I put in the new MAF so im asuming it needs a software patch, also i sprayed carb cleaner in all areas of the engine cabin could not find any leaks. Thanx
  18. Thanx buddy this Guy is charging 1 hour on a PST2 ... must bite Bullit .. if only I had a PST2
  19. Ok I have put at least 200 miles on the new MAF but it is still looping for the majority of the time however when I cold start it it is stable. What RPM is the Idle suppost to be at? The reason why I suggested raising the idle is because when I lightly give it gas to stabalize it at 800 rpm the looping is alot less? any Ideas
  20. The manual will get you started but im not sure if it will help you trouble shoot codes!
  21. DANGIT that looks sweet, I guess I'm S.O.L with my 00 boxster right? Great hack Bravo :clapping:
  22. What would that be, the carb spray trick or raise the Idle? How do you raise the Idle? :lightbulb:
  23. The brightest ones I found were 7000K the sylvania silver stars are 4000K. Look for Eurodezigns on ebay they have a set for $ 25 shipped you need the H7.
  24. You were right! :clapping: The 996 606 124 00 ran like Shyte! I persuaded.... the parts guy to take back the 996 606 124 00 & got him to give me the 986 606 125 00 like you recommended, boy what a difference she is raring to go initially the intake was popping with the suction but then it stabilized. Thanks for all your help. My Idle is looping!! will this settle after a while? or should I mess with my Idle seems low will raising it take care of the looping? Special thanks to Tool Pants Mr mickeymouse & Loren for putting up with my Newbie questions
