  1. Well, this has really turned out to be a "special" experience. The Nav is installed, that's the good news. The cruise no longer works. The tech did something wrong with the cowl, there is a fiber optic jumper cable installed because the tech insisted that using the cale for the cd changer if 1 is not installed will not work!!! By the way, the Dealer only employs 1 tech. Nice guy, but he had to leave at 2 to watch kids. I will now need to make another 6 hour drive and wait who knows how long? Live and learn! After this, I'll try Nashville!!! lol
  2. Hi White 987S, Thanks for your comments. I didnt even add the 987S to my list because every S I see close to my house (NJ) seems to be well above my price range...I guess that leaves me with the 987 Base... Is it still a much improved car over the 986? Thanks, Gus Gus, I am biased, since I own a 987, but I think the 987 is much nicer than the 986. Interior by far. The 986 is a great car. I think the Boxster just got better with the 987. I think you can get a 2005 987S within your budget- low-low $40'ish. Without a doubt! An '06 987S just sold on eBay for $45K. Metallic paint, Bose, Zenons, Power seats, CD changer. 8600 miles!

Is it still a much improved car over the 986? Thanks, Gus For what it's worth, why have you left out 911's? There are so many great deals to be had right now that it seems to me you should at least consider. Pricewise, you are certainly in the right ballpark. Don
  4. Hi, I've been roaming this site for the last few weeks and today became a contributing member. I am blown away by the information on this site! I have owned 8 Porsches since 1972. One from each of the last 5 decades!! I first joined PCA in 1972. I currently have # 6 and #8 in the garage. They are a '91 C2 Cab, triple black, with 40K original miles. My latest addition is an '06 C2 with more options than I've ever had. Including GT Silver, Full Cocoa leather, Aerokit, PSE, PASM, PCM, Bose, 19" Carrera Classics, Sport Chrono Plus, etc. It currently has 3000 miles (purchased in Dec. with 1800 miles). I have owned 4 911's, 2 914's, 1 944's, and 1 986. I'm adding a Sport Shifter and Nav to the new car. I've participated in the Porsche Driving Experience w/ Derek Bell (Pocono 1991), been to the Factory and Museum, and been the guest of Jurgen Barth at Weissach. I've driven in several D/E's in Memphis and St. Louis. You could say, "I'm into it"! I look forward to being an active member on this site! Don
  5. Thank you!The Dealer where I bought the parts gave me a copy of the TSB, so I knew going in the time estimate. That is the primary reason I'm so annoyed with my local Dealer. They never bothered to look! Just out of curiousity, how can I access the Cayman Club? My appointment to install is tomorrow. Maybe it will help me to better understand what they are doing. Don
  6. Just buy another Porsche!!! You can afford it! lol
  7. Probably should work you are only increasing the rear track by 5 mm. Thanks for the quick reply. What I mean is, does it do any harm to only install the spacers at the rear?
  8. I recently purchased 2 5mm OEM spacers with bolts (eBay). Is there any reason why I can't install spacers on the rear wheels only? I have an '06 Carrera with Classic 19's.
  9. I understand your point. For me the real issue is that I know what Porsche allows for the install, approx. 3-4 hrs. Labor rates may vary, not by that much! The other issue is that I don't trust them to do the right job! I've heard a lot of horror stories about incorrect software updates, etc. I understand and agree. The quality of the work is very-very important. Good decision. I would like to find the right forum to bring this issue to PCNA's attention.

  11. I recently purchased an '06 997. One of the few missing options on this car was nav. I was able to order all the parts from the Porsche dealer where I purchased my car (in N.J.). I drove the car home to TN and waited for the parts to arrive so I could take them to my local dealer for install. I gave the service rep my vin and all the part numbers, he said it would cost between $800-1000 to install!!!! I finally went to see him in person, without looking at anything he said he would charge me $750!!! I have never trusted this dealer, I also have a '91 C2 Cab. I have had all work performed by an independant shop. In this case I have a car still under warranty and would like to keep it that way. I called 2 other Porsche dealers and asked them for a price to install my new nav. Their prices were $280 and less than $400!!!! Clearly I will drive 3 hours to another dealer in another state before I will take my car to the local pirates! This is my 9th Porsche and I have been a member of PCA for over 30 years. I have never had this kind of experience before. Any ideas???
  12. Now for the ignorant question of the day: Is the GT3 spoiler lip the same part (part no.) as the 997 (narrow body) aero kit lip? What is the correct price to pay for these? Thanks, Don
  13. I received my screens in the mail yesterday. They are very nice, and they should be!! Does anyone know if the outside radiator ducts on a 997 aero kit are the same size as the GT3 ducts? I may have screwed up! Also noticed today that GT# screens are on eBay, $80!!!!!! Don
  14. I just ordered some from The Racers Group. I have a 997 w/aerokit (s/a GT3) and was having the same problems. These are not cheap either ($100 @). Don
