  1. I was doing a little detailing on MY06 997 the other day when I discovered something very odd. There appeared to be something built up, felt rough, on the edge of my right side headlight lens(in the gray area). I couldn't see it, but I could feel it. I put a little Goof-Off on the corner of a rag and attempted to clean off, thinkiing it might be bug guts I missed while washing. The residue became softer and started shedding in a white, sticky, paste like substance. The lens was not getting any smoother and, in fact, the affected area seemed to be increasing (approx. 1 in. X 2 in.) I now am convinced that there is nothing on the surface but rather the surface is deteriorated. There is no way that the Goof-Off contributed to this. There have been no harsh chemicals (ie: brake fluid) near this area. The damage is limited to the lens edge only. Any thoughts? Defective lens? Thanks!
  2. Hi All! Does anyone else have any thoughts about a possible solution? I'm really stumped here! Thanks, Don
  3. No, and the car has just rolled past 12K miles. Also just out of warranty in Dec.
  4. Here is the latest: new bulbs from dealer were incorrect. Found the correct ones at Autozone, 2/$5! I checked all sockets, no corrosion or other issues. I checked brake lights, all are ok. When the switch is turned on, BOTH tail lights work for an instant and then the right light goes dark. What to do????? I'm really stumped.
  5. MY06 997 Carrera Coupe-Manual When I started the car after winter storage I had a warning for the right tail light. The brake and turn lights are fine. I replaced both tail light bulbs (1 light) and still find the tail light inop. thoughts? BTW, you can only buy the bulbs from the Dealer! $6 apiece!
  6. Battery water, way low. Topped off and all continues to work fine.................except for the right tail light. Replaced both bulbs and still dark. Any one else had this problem? BTW, the bulbs can only be purchased at the Dealer!!! $6 apiece!
  7. Do 997 gen-1 (3.6l) headers provide an improvement (power increase) for a 996 3.6? Don
  8. I have a new Optima, and mounting kit, standing by, but not yet installed. The car now starts and runs fine with the first key turn! Could it have "healed" itself????
  9. Thanks for the input. I went with Direct. Easy Care was way high (twice). It seems that warranty claims on our cars (maybe engines!!!) has caused huge rate increases. Don't wait! Don
  10. No thoughts? I've spoken with Auto Protection and Direct. I would love references and/or more names. Thanks!
  11. Thanks! Optima What model #? Install modifications? Price?
  12. I guess my time has come to play "Battery-Let's Make A Deal" Costco, both stores, do not have Group 48, and will not get! Autozone and Advance Auto Parts, seem to have the same battery and at the same price-$135. Sears does not have. On to the internet! Sunset Porsche is having a sale on OEM batteries-$115 plus shipping. I just don't want. Has anyone installed a Deka AGM battery? Remy sells them for $145 plus shipping. I've also looked at the Rennline adapter for the Odyssey at $135, plus battery. Any, and all, suggestions are appreciated.
  13. Thanks for the fast response Loren! I thought the same thing but I was thrown off by the fact that the lights are so bright and when the starter connects, it turns over normally. My next question would be, Interstate or other? I live in Memphis.
  14. I have a used (4000 miles) PSE from MY06 Carrera. I left the wiring in the car when I removed the exhaust system. Contact me if you are still looking for PSE. Don
  15. My MY06 Carrera is now out of Factory warranty. It has 11,950 miles on the clock. I want to purchase an after market, bumper-to-bumper, warranty here in the US. Reccomendations? Cost for a 4 year, 60,000 mile w/$100 deductible quoted by Auto Protection is $2395. Does anyone have experience with Auto Protection? Other Companies? Costs? Etc.? Thanks in advance!
  16. Just took the cover off my MY06 997, 11950 miles, after 5 months of winter storage. I keep my car on the Porsche battery maintainer in my conditioned garage with the cover on and up in the air on the lift. When I turned the key all the appropriate lights came on(very bright) but no starter engaged. I turned the key on and off 3 or 4 times and finally the starter engaged and the car started immediately. Since then, the same thing happens most every time I drive the car (about 6 times so far). This car still has the original battery but that seems to be working well. One other oddity was that the "check right rear tail light" message came up. Any thoughts?
  17. 2006 997-1 Carrera, manual, US My two cents: I have X-51 headers, APR(BB) cat back exhaust, Fabspeed CAI w/BMC filter, and APR re-flash. The car feels and runs great. With regard to HP gains, APR dynoed my car after all mods were complete, I'm not sure how everyone else is determining HP, but my numbers are RWHP. Can the numbers be translated easily? Per APR dyno: 301 HP at rear wheels. Total cost: just under $3000.
  18. Hi, I secured some Champion Motorsport 20" wheels for my '06 997. I was wondering if anyone can help me with correct tire pressures? Thanks!
