  1. Having driven at Laguna Seca in the early eighties, and now living/driving in southern Arizona where the tracks are as flat as the landscape, I agree with the do what you need to stay. That is pretty amazing though that a stock OEM exhaust would break even Laguna's low limits. We had troubles even then, but with SCCA production cars, not stockers.
  2. I am kind of going through same thing lately. My 05 Boxster S has 19 inch stock currently. I used up my Mich PS2s a couple of months ago and have used Pirelli PZeros in 3 events since. No edge wear but heavy wear on the center smaller treads. I keep trying to decide between track tires and streets. Originally I intended to use the streets only, but the wear keeps me rethinking... Have spend a lot of time looking at rims and tires both 18 and 19. The big favorite around here with NASA runners are the Toyos particularly the RA 1s which are being replaced this year with the R888. The R888s are listed as available in a 235/40/18 and a 275/40 and a 265/35/18. If I can find an appropriate 18 inch set wheels I may move down to have more to have more track tire options. With 19s I am sure the Sport Cups would be fine and could be driven to track. Costs don't seem to me to vary much in the 18/19 sizes and unsprung weight seems to be more a function of what wheel, not what size. Anyway thought I would comment even though I'm not currently using track tires. There are about 3 here that are but most seem to transport the car and use slicks. PCA has a tech article about cambers adjustments on newer Boxsters that stay on the street. Basically says don't make the change which requires lowering and adjustable control arms. In the tech section. Good luck.
  3. There is a tire size comparison calculator at www.1010tires.com. Based upon it, your 265/30 would be not recommended since it is a greater than 3% change. The 275/35 would be within acceptable. Only about a 1% change. Based upon my limited experience, I think an aspect ratio reduction to 30 would be too much. Porsche club has a tech site which has a wheel and tire section. It may help. Bruce
  4. I have seen a recommendation that the Porsche wheel spacers improve the look by moving the tires more into the arch of the wheel well. I haven't done it and I have no complaints on track or at ax's regarding the 19" rims performance wise. Bruce
  5. Thumps on racetracks aren't that uncommon. What were tracks conditions like? Any loose rubbers chunks laying around? -or- Activation of ABS?
  6. I bought a 2005 in Nebraska and drove it 1400 miles or so home to Arizona. Loved every minute of it. The dealer should give you a "temporary" plate when you pick up the car. It is good in any US state. I doubt it is different due to your citizenship, but I don't know. Route suggestion: If going to southern California, take US highway 395 on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Either coming or going. A great driving road. Also highway 1 on the Pacific coast is a beautiful (but slow) drive. In northern California going east/west use US highway 50 instead of interstate 80 if you can at least in one direction. In southern California go thru Death Valley if you can. Should not be too bad in April. Don't plan to cross the Sierras anywhere but north (Truckee) or south. The central passes are often still snowbound. See San Francisco if you can. A beautiful city. Have fun.
