  1. Thanks everyone. I will keep you posted. I had heard about the bombaydigital page now I dont have to look for it. :D

The reason for doing the brake job is in preparation for a day on the track on August 7th at Infineon (if anyone is interested http://www.nasaproracing.com/) :drive: I think I will have to do this soon after the track day...

TP what is the painting of the hat comment about? looks? or protection? :help: Thanks!

About drilled.. I will come out clean...it will be a poser move, but what can I say... It does look better. B)

  2. Good day to all. I am going to perform a brake job on my car. I want to make sure i have the correct PN and tools for this job. My car a 1997 986. One thing I want to upgrade is the steel cables for the brake lines (any special recomendations?).

Hre is what I have come up as a list:

    rotors (zimmerman?)

    pads

    cables

    fuild (blue?)

Please advise if there is another post that considers this as I have searched the renntech.org and have not found one.

    Alberto

  3. My car has the buckles codes from the OBDII. What should my approach be with Porsche? This fix had been done on my car in the past. I have the dealer notes form it.

Does the airbag system work when the Airbag light is on? I was told it does not... Anyone have confirmation? (hopefully not a crash experience but more of documentation?) Thanks.

  4. TP/Loren here is what I got from the readings.

    Range 2, cylinder 1 - 3 (FRA) -- 1.02 -- ±0.04 >>> 1.09

    Range 2, cylinder 4 - 6 (FRA2) -- 1.03 -- ±0.05 >>>1.11

    Range 1, cylinder 1 - 3 (TRA) -- 0.00 -- ±0.1 >>> 0.24

    Range 1, cylinder 4 - 6 (TRA2) -- 0.00 -- ±0.1 >>> 0.25

I replaced the MAF and my CEL is still on after several Cycles... it has been 12 times I have turned on the car. :drive:

  5. So I missed the Tech Session...and guess what I got... Yes, a CEL. :(

Took it to the RMG place and people were very very friendly and helpful. :clapping:

The fault code is related to the MAF sensor. Estimate to repair $500-$550.

Got a better price for the part @ Sunset $267 but my question is if range 1 was 0.24 and 0.25, and Range 2 were in the 1.09 and 1.11 range... Is the sensor my only problem?

  6. MY 97 2.5L 986

grinding noise when starting the car. Sound similar to an elephant noise  from experience with other cars it seems like the starter motor gets stuck or something, it grinds then the motor roars normally..never hear the sound again unless I park the car for a long period and the motor is very cold...I think...

similar to this sound just shorter once it hits the high pitch level

    The sound of an Elephant.

Any ideas on what this is?

  7. I got a hold of some 996 wheels. Turbo Look with a 65 offset.

I need help. I have a couple of questions.

    1. Has anyone used these on a 986 (MY 1997)?

    2. What spacer was used?

It seems I need a 20 mm spacers which makes me think that the wheel will be outside of the wheel well.... :( :help: :help:

  8. TP what tools do I need to replace the gas filter? Thanks!

It it under the middle of the car behind the middle plastic cover. The round silver thing in the pic. I have changed filters on fuel injected cars and the Boxster is huge in comparison. Porsche says it is good for 60k miles. My friend owns a gas station. The fuel out of a nozzle goes through 2 filters before it goes in your tank. I doubt it is your filter - but replacing it the way to rule it out as the cause of the problem.

  10. i was looking to buy a 1997-1999 boxster, i was wondering what kind of problems i should be looking for in a car between these years, also how do theses cars do, how reliable are they high mileage ( over 100k), an include any other buyer tips you would like to give to me! thank you for your time

I have a 1997. lots of miles got it with 82k now 89k, Maintanance and mods last year was 3k including tires ($850) and lower arm suspension ($700ish)... new key ($300) ... ($200 tools) + ($150) oil/filter change....the rest were mods...

I would say you go for it... I would reccomend talking to your closest dealer and getting the service history for your car... that will tell you how much was done.

oh... yeah you should defenitly become a contributing member if not more...

  11. I was with you all until the "Porsches and Autozone don't mix well"

Hmmmm do I sell my boxster, or do I quite my job with Autozone????????????????????????

I would say you get a computer at your work (all autozone branches) that has a link to this Forum... you have people join and contribute... people would then have the KNOWLEDGE of renntech... as normally Autozone employees dont know that much on Porsches. :D

  12. I went to Osh and bought some door hangers and a wooden ruler and some foam. I created my own little $10 camera holder for a Sony DCP P100 (I think it is a P100). I hanged this thing from the windstop where i can get a very good view of the dash and if i want to I can move to see my self in the video....

The videos are ok.. the problem is mixing the sound and controlling the vibration you get from the rollbar.

My best DIY solution has been to invest money on my girl and then she agrees to hold the camera and adds some good remarks here and there... Let me get a picture of my $10 camera holder I will post later tonite. I wont post any pictures of my expensive persian princess camera holder...

  13. Be sure to check the forum for the torque on the spark plugs. When I did mine (10 days ago) the DIY marked 22 lb/ft the Spark plug data (Bosch 2 tip) had a specification of 19 lb/ft. I did mine at 20-21. I understand this is a very delicate process of you over torque. Also the tools are available at snap on. I paid more for snap on but you can buy cheap at any place.

search for this topic:  good spark plugs, your opinion needed
