  1. Just yesterday, although the gear select lever goes into 'R' there is no drive, the vehicle doesn't move! Also the 'R' light on the dash is flashing. After trying a number times it eventually goes in drive with a judder. The fault is now intermittent, sometimes it goes into reverse and drives sometimes it doesn't! Any suggestions as to what is at fault? Thanks.
  2. I am just about to change my standard 996 (2004 C4S) shifter to a 997 type, as it's recognised here in the UK to have reduced throw, by approx 10%. I need, of course, to remove the Gear Lever Knob. When I lift up the Gaiter it looks like the Knob is secured to the shaft with a small 'Allen' (internal hexagon) set screw. Can anybody tell me if this screw is all that holds it on the shaft? The screw is VERY tight, and I am afraid that in trying to unscrew it I may damage the internal hexagon, and then I'll never get the Knob off!
  3. I have a UK spec 2004 996 C4S fitted with a PCM (3.0 version). If for any reason I disconnect the Battery, will I then need to enter codes (Radio and Nav codes) into my PCM? When I bought this used car recently I was not give any codes. Should I have been? I'm confused, because I have researched this question on various forums, but see conflicting answers. i.e. My unit never needs recoding because it has an internal memory that always retains them! Or, I should have/need both a Code Card PCM and and Code Card Navigation! Which I don't have, and it will cost me a fortune to get them, and a Porsche dealer can only suppply the Radio code not the Navigation code!
  4. I've replaced the wheel twice on my '02 C4S. I disconnected the battery, removed the airbag, then the wheel. I didn't wait the thirty minutes that you mentioned, and have never had a problem with a warning light. One note: be sure to have your radio code handy. You'll need it after re-connecting the battery. Ken, Thanks. The reason for waiting for a period of time (I suggested 30 mins), after disconnecting the Battery, and before removing the Airbag, is to allow the Airbag Capacitor to discharge. If you don't do this, potentially the Airbag is still 'live'. :o
  5. I have a UK car. How do I stop the Alarm siren going off if I want to change my battery then?
  6. Assuming I remove/reassemble the Airbag, after disconnecting the Battery and waiting 30 mins for the capacitor to discharge, then will the Airbag warning light still come on? If so, how can I avoid this happening? Thanks.
  7. I agree the instructions are very good. Does anybody know if, once you have disconnected the Battery, if there is any chance during Airbag removal or reassembly, that the Airbag warning light will trip (turn on) ? I'm told that if it does then only a Porsche dealer will be able to get the warning light turned off! Thanks.
