  1. AAA was here telling how great they are because they can switch batteries and you wont lose your settings and of course car died and I lost my radio. Here is my info Becker 1 Type 4462 24/99 serial X5038070 2000 996 Thanks dave
  2. the car starts and runs but the FOB wont remotely open the car. I know if it sits you need to open door etc. I will try the reverse polarity and see if that works. . . I wont be with the car until next week. It was working and then one day it wasnt. Do I put a new battery in. . . thanks dave
  3. I have a 2000 996 tip, convertable with 79k on it. I replaced the battery in the key but that didnt help. I also noticed that the valet lock will pop on randomly. I had to put it in gear to turn it off so I could pump gas the other day. Any tips? thanks dave
  4. Thank you. I will check that when I get back to LA next week. I can sleep a little easier. . . dave
  5. I have a 2000 996 convertable tiptronic with 78k on it. Its been running really good since I changed the MAF about 3 months ago and put new breaks on it. I live in LA and its been raining for 5 days straight and the car has been outside. I went to drive it the other day and it sounded a little rough and I backed out of driveway and started to take off and it was really rough with no power and I looked down and the check engine light was flashing so I shut it down and I have a reader that was in the car and it gave me those two codes (Po740 and P0301). I checked the ATF and that is low so I believe that will take care of the p0740 but I am concerned about the p0301 cylinder 1 misfire. is this computer controlled and something got wet? A spark plug wire, a coil? If I start the engine can it to further damage? Could it be a bad cylender? Thanks please let me know if you need more info? Dave
  6. I know and I have seen the quality of the fiberglass parts that Jeff sells and they are superior to most out there. . .Parts fit snug and dont need a lot of work to make them look right. I am getting ready to do my car here in the next few months. about 900 dollars in lights for headlight and lights for the bumpers. I will need a new frony bumper, fenders and hood. I am also putting rockers and a new updated rear bumper on the car. maybe 3k in parts there and a couple thousand for a good paint job. I paid 20k for my 2000 996 with 71k tiptronic convertable car. So for under 30k I will have a great looking car with a new paint job. To me I think it is worth it. I have already built a strosek porsche on a 1984 euro convertable. I had bought these parts from Jeff manufactor and I was really pleased with the kit. The car turned out great and I just sold it about 6 months ago and got almost 30k for it. I hope this helps dave
  7. Hello all, I have a 2000 Tiptronic convertable with 71k on it and last night while sitting in traffic check engine light popped on and I got two codes.p0442 EVAP emission control leak (Small) also P0740 TCC Circuit Malfunction. I cant seem to find the second one. I erased the codes and it hasnt come back. Does anyone know what they mean in simple terms. I just bought this car a few months ago and I havent had any problems with it. I had just filled it up and driven about 100 miles on it and then it sat for 24 hours and then I was stuck in traffic for an hour or so. . .then a slow drive back to LA from Santa Barbara. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. What is the leak exactly and could it have been me not tightening the gas cap all the way? Thank you in advance dave thies
  8. When I cleaned mine I worried about the same thing. But after driving it for a few minutes it was find and rock steady at like 650 rpm. I would double check to make sure everything is seated properly and no vacuum leak. There is a paper gasket in there that should be replaced when you put everything back together. Check that out could be a leak there. . .
  9. You can also check out this place. The website is new but functional. I bought a set of strosek look complete kit from them a few years ago and I am getting some stuff for my 2001 boxster now. Not sure what I want yet. They are great to work with. .. dave http://web.mac.com/nickmroz/Site/Boxster.html
  10. So I just cleaned my throttle body on my 2001 boxster with 107k on it and I must be lucky because everything came off and went back on pretty easy in a little over an hour. It was dirty in there so I think that was the problem. Is there anything I need to do now that it is all back together or will the computer know automatically what to do? Thanks dave
  11. I have done searches and found other post but I dont see a DIY on cleaning the throttle body. Has there been one? Thanks dave
  12. Just becoming a weekend mechanic so I wouldnt know if there was something wrong with the o2 sensor. I will look for cleaning throttle body and do that today and see what that does. thanks dave
  13. Thanks Loren, I cleared the code 4 days ago and it hasnt come back after about 200 miles. Is it hard to clean throttle body and get to the o2 sensors? thanks dave
