  1. Hello, I would like to see something like the new PDK paddle shifter (the current factory offering) for my 99 C-4 Tip. Maybe a way to fit that entire steering wheel with the paddles and air bag. As it is: I have rarely used my steering wheel switches, they are uncomfortable to use for me, but I think the new paddles would be more ergo and useable. Page 15 of the November issue of Excellence has a picture of what I would like for my car. Ideas???
  2. Hello, When I hit 4 speeding tickets, my employer was notified and I had to take a mandatory driving class to keep my Government driving license. My insurance was cancelled. It maked me sad. The only times I have received a speeding ticket was when I had a radar detector along with me. The only times I have received a speeding ticket was when driving a Porsche. {Got a warning once driving my Dad's Cadillac.} Just received my 7th speeding ticket (lifetime), in my 7th Porsche (lifetime). Must be a message here somewhere. The radar detector has saved me from many flashing light stops for doing something that I rightfully should not have been doing in the first place. But. Once, on a lonely stretch of road in Kansas I started getting random, weak but persistent alerts on the K band. This made me believe a Kansas state trooper was somewhere in the area hunting. Suddenly, from a side road two teenagers in a hot rod pulled out an ran it right up on my tail. I was not going fast enough for these two. They passed me with a full throttle exhaust note flourish... You all know what happened next. I still drive a Porsche and still have an Escort passport. Hope this helps
  3. Hello, Mine is a 1999 C-4 Tip with 84k on the clock. Last summer while backing up my car I accidentally cracked and broke off a piece of the stock taillight. Felt it, then realized what I had done all at the same time. Just lucky I guess. So, I checked the price of a new one, a used one, and the conversion to these LEDs. The LED conversion was/is about the same $$ as a used set or a new single. I hiked it up and purchased the replacement pair in smoked. They look stunning on my silver car. Tasteful, and not garish, more 'modern' too and just a little shinny as well. Still like the way they look. But the install has given me fits and starts and I am ready to go back to the stock. Presently, I have all lamps back to stock. The 3rd brake lights are even back to the red. and the LED taillights are on the bench. I have no brake lights. And the Tip will not shift from Park. Can this all be related somehow with the immobilizer? Is it a coincidence? Did something in the shifter/key switch transmission shifter lock just happen to fail at the same time? I have a button in my Volvo to override this and have used it to move she shifter independent of this lock. But the Porsche has no button for this problem. {At least I don't know about it yet.} Is there a simple way to eliminate this 'feature' from my car altogether??? I would do that. Made the first mistake of connecting the little side marker lamp plugins and had to replace two side marker 7.5 amp fuses. I have checked any/all related fuses in the footwell and can not find another blown fuse. May have to ohm check each individual fuse with my multimeter. Biggest bug is the "will not shift from park" with engine running and left foot on the brake pedal. When I jiggle the Tip shifter lever the PSM light and the ABS light will come on; with the engine running. Each go off with the engine and do not come back on when the engine is re-started. I have disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes and had this same bug when it was re connected. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
  4. Hello, While removing a MAF on my 99 C-4, a friend, and fellow 'gearhead' friend just happened to stop by my garage. Upon seeing my dilemma he jumped in with both hands. Remember, he had no investment here. If it broke off in his hands.... He was/is a more forceful person anyway... Came right off for him. Just remember: 'Brute Force Beats Thoughtful Finesse'. Always. Every time. Good Luck
  5. Thanks Paul, They seem to only have the turbo setup. I will try to contact them again later. THANKS AGAIN. Hello, Thanks for all the interest and pms on this Gruppe M deal. The replacement air filter arrived Friday, 2days ago, only about a week in transit from the land of the rising sun. And it fits!!!!!! I have to reroute a hose and it's a real close fit on the left side of the engine bay. Gruppe M has supplied me with the "kit needed to correctly install this mod on a na 996. Now if it don't throw a code, or 'fritz' my maf . K&N was also helpful and I have several emails from a contact at that fine company. Anyone want the name of a contact at K&N for your special needs project? Let me know. I was able to source an air filter direct from K&N and a cover thing like a sock, but these have not arrived here from K&N, yet. The filter fromGruppe M was about $300. from Japan, shipped. The one from K&N is about $50. I do not know if these are the same. But........ Will post pictures soon. Thanks again.
  6. I usually go with the factory oem stuffs for my cars, esp the Porsche, those German engineers and the part replacements that come from from the factory. " You are only as good a your gear", or parts as the case may be. But these Coolant over flow tanks are just plain big and ugly. Does a maintenance aware H2O cooled 911 owner need the capacity of this ugly tank? If I am correct coolant overflow tanks started out as an add on back in the day. I got my first one when I was just trying to keep my junker Austin Healy from overheating But back on task. I relish looking under that little lid in the rear of this car almost as much as the driver's seat...almost. Just to check for???? Anyone have a more attractive coolant overflow replacement??? Prolly cost more/less but if you need one the p-god wants about $250. (But check first I could well be incorrect on that price). I only quote that$$$ as a baseline. The only trick is a relief valve on top of the stock overflow tank. The NSX guys over on the NSX prime love to replace stuffs like the coolant overflow tank. Someone over there produces a stainless tank with an old timey sight tube that is waaaaay cool. Would gladly cough up the $$$$ for something like that. Betcha I'm not the only one either. I have looked on the bay to avail. If anyone has an old Coolant Overflow Tank that is not repairable (good luck) I would gladly pay shipping to 80918. And I will share the results too. Don't intend to kidnapp this thread. Hope this reply is not in the wrong part of the forum, or something else untoward. Just started writing and the topic took on it's own life. Moderator, please feel free do do as you think best with this reply. And good luck to all.
  7. Agree! Please spend a little bit of time looking into Europipe. I have had mine in my C2S and everything has turned out great. The hardware itself is of great quality. Fitment is perfect. Sound is great. At least EP is one capable option which should earn a place in your shopping list. Could you please tell more.
  8. Sorry, there are no (measurable) performance gains from aftermarket exhausts for normally aspirated cars. Only turbos get much benefit from exhaust changes. Yeah, thats just that science stuff..... What about the 'seat of the pants' dyno results??? Ater dropping 2-5 large-I defy you, and your dyno/science stuff, to tell me 'there is no' measurable difference. From everything I have read on this subject-Loren is right-there is no measurable gain for our cars, Porsche engineers already thought of it.
  9. Thanks Paul, They seem to only have the turbo setup. I will try to contact them again later. THANKS AGAIN.
  10. Hello, First, don't all you guys get jealous. This is like a girl; she's real pretty, and when she lets you its so goood it's OK about all the trouble she causes you. Like our Porsches. Well, this intake is like her slutty girlfriend, but you somehow get both. They work together for/on just YOU. It just causes you too much trouble and costs you mucho dinero. OK? Now here is the deal. I have seen pictures of the Gruppe M before as it is pretty common on the twin turbo. I've never seen any dyno results but with a turbo and that engine setup on the street it probably does not matter much. I have also seen pictures of one turbo intake cut up to work on a NA 996 or 997, can't remember. But looked cool. Well, I had a chance to buy a Gruppe M setup for a 996na used, without an element. I have never seen any dyno results for 996na. But it looks so good, like the slutty girlfriend. Don't know how she will perform, but she looks sooooo good, just sittin there costing you $$$. IT is a trombone like lookin thing that replaces the whole intake with real carbon fibre and boy does it look cool. The craftmanship is unbelieveable very strong, solid and even heavy (for carbon). I do not know if this sounds boastfull, hope not. I hate a bragart. But here's the best part...its JDM only. That means its only available in Japan (I had an NSX and learned some of their lingo). Sometimes an NSX guy will travel to Japan and buy stuff and fill orders and ship back and distribute himself. It's a different world. The big Japonese companies and the wannabes in Japan don't want to do business with the average gearhead, but I think my bank OKed a transfer to Gruppe M last night and the filter element for this thing may be comming from Japan, probably by slow boat from China. I think that someone in sales at Gruppe M (HOYA -san) is willing to help me with a new element for this thing. If not, I'm gonna fabricate something from a donor from K&N. The filter element looks like an inverted dinner plate. It is about 6"around and and should be replaced and cleaned often. Just so you all know...I can get about three different K&N elements ( to experiment on) for what this air cleaning element from Gruppe M would cost me. They make all this themself no outsourcing for Gruppe M. I think there is a BMW connection, and I may go there next for help with this project. Right now I've got to go to work. Bye.
  11. Can a 997na exhaust fit on a 996na? Maybe with 997 headers??? And cats? Better yet modify the 997 to fit??? Ok, best bet find a used, but excellent TUBI exhaust for a 996na. Anyone??? Loren? Thanks.
  12. Hello, Age 35, 356 pre A... At age 21, the Speedster and the 59 Corvette were about the same money in LA. I made the wrong decision. I bought the Vette, and totaled it on the way back to Nebraska. Since then;a 912, 2 911s, 2 944s, and now a 996. The 944s were throw away daily drivers. This 996 with the tip and allwheel is the best car I have ever had (that includes a 1969 Corvette with the 427/390hp, and an NSX too ). Am looking for a Cayenne Turbo now at age 60.
  13. Hello all. I now have a Gruppe M intake for my 1999 C-4. It not only looks cool, but seems very well made, and sturdy, as well. I am trying to source a new filter. I think K&N makes a filter for this setup. Anyone have a part number? Anyone on this forum have one of these on their car? Thank you.
  14. Anyone with Tubi exhaust on their 996? The NSX prime guys like their exhaust system/muffler. Thanks.
  15. I have the same wrinkle. 99 C4 with full leather, 82k and a 'sordid' past.
