  1. The solenoid in relation with your fault is item #23 on this picture. His function is to provide engine oil pressure to the cam actuator to retard or advance the cam (0 to 45 degrees). Here you have the two wires going to this solenoid and the color of the wires....
  2. Just for info, as per repair manual the front and rear brakes are totally different. First the thickness of a new pad is different 1.34" versus 1.10" and the pad area is also not the same 24.34 sq.in versus 19.69 sq.in. There is definitively something wrong with your Hawk pads....
  3. In my case, I know I had migration . I was carrying a 50cc seringe and a small container, and every day I had to transfer fluid from clutch to steering reservoir, until I discover what was wrong (with the help of Renntech and 6speed) ...It last for about two months because I was not able to get the accumulator. Unable to get it shipped because it is a pressurized container.... There was a discussion about the slave on 6speed lately and I was surprised to read, someone was mentionning the slave after 2008 are modified???? Anybody got more info about this????
  4. Loren, I think he is talking about fluid migration coming from overfilled clutch reservoir( "on the plastic around the filler cap") due to fluid migration from steering system to clutch system. It is due to a faulty slave. I had the same problem a year ago and did a DIY because of this problem....
  5. Slave part# 996 116 237 52. But while you are replacing the slave you should replace the accumulator part# 996 314 166 00.... But before you start , to be sure you got migration of fluid, take a look at your steering reservoir level to see if it is low....

  8. The only thing I can tell you there is a TSb 9757 that mention a possible damage of the electrical harness under left seat. The fix is the addition of a new holder that guide the wire when seat movement....
  9. BD . I did a search in PET with part# 999 701 598 40 m17 and this part is applicable to 911 year 1989 and 964 year 1984 ??? It is not the first time Pelican had wrong information on parts but I always double check with Porsche parts cat and so far never had a problem. I hope you are aware of this good site for part# search AutoAtlanta, it is very useful but the parts are a bit expensive... Just found something else the 999 701 598 40 is 18.65 X 2.45 and the one called by Porsche is 18 X 22
  10. It is a very good modification because the original diverter valves( Bosch), according to some people on Renntech and 6speed , are known to fail. Good move! I got a completely stock car and did exactly the same mod but of course it was more expensive for me . A little bit of a pain to install.... I have replaced the F hose at the same time...
  11. Alex, I didn't know about that, but like I said before some people don't do the turbos. The first time I did mine I was afraid because the plug was overtighten. But I did so far three engine and turbos oil changes and after applying the proper torque, as per repair manual, I never had any problem...
  12. Bostonduce, I just look at my stock and they are crush washers part # 900 123 044 30 (see pics). This part becomes really hot and I doubt rubber would stand the heat. Turbos become red hot under heavy load.... Sorry if I am wrong but.... Just did a search at Pelican site and part# 900 123 044 30 is a crush washer...(there is a picture of the part)
  13. Some people do them, some people don't. When you drain the turbos, only about 50 cc comes out. I do it in case of deposit in the bottom of the turbo reservoir but nothing so far....Remember this oil is from the engine and it is continuously moving from the turbo tank to the case drain via a suction pump and after to the oil reservoir. The turbo oil is not a closed loop system. Remember if you do the turbos there is a crush washer to replaced...
  14. At coolant temp at 221F (105C) or compartment temp at 172F (78C) the fan start until compartment temp is down to 140F (60C). Protection is provided up to 40 minutes after engine is stopped and again if temp goes up to 172F fan start..... Found in the book "996 the essential companion" page 178.
  15. I never replaced one, but seems to be not that bad. But it is hidden under lots of components...According to your symptoms it is a logic start.... But of course, first, take a good look at the wires attachment to this sensor before removal...
  16. You can only reach it from the top. Look and the oil filter scoop (top black part) and the intake assy (left 3 openings)....
  17. Did some search on 6speed because I remember somebody removed this unit completely. Cannot found the thread anymore.... May be you should ask around....Good luck.

  20. I don't understand the first part of the dealer statement "The turbo oil collection tanks had excessive oil indicating that they have not been drained". Because the oil in the turbo reservoir is sucked by a scavenge pump, the same one for both sides, and this oil is routed to the engine casing." not been Drained" ??? .. But the important thing for you is the second part of the statement ;-)
  21. Keep an eye on the coolant temperature.... (Engine temp)
  22. Radiator fans stage one inoperative. The cooling fans (2) in front of the car got three speeds. The slower speed is not functioning properly. If you got access to a Durametric this function can be test easily using "drive links". But first take a look at both fuses C8 and C18 (radiators left + right). If the fuses are ok the next step should be the relays (see the pics). Try to found why you got no power to one or both of thoses fans....
  23. Can it be under the expansion tank... Left side of the engine compartment... Coolant reservoir is know to leak and many people got it replaced....
