  1. Here's a question for the forum: If a brand/grade of oil was on a previous Porsche Approved Oil list (TSB), but is not on the current list, should it not be used solely because it's no longer on the approved list?
  2. If money was no object (hard to say in today's ecenomy) this would be the ideal situation, but not required. Mainly, you need to replace the rears with the same tire model and brand. How old are your front tires? If more than 5 years old, then yes, I'd replace them too. Thanks for the reply. I bought the car last year...no idea as to how old the tires are.
  3. Thanks for the responses. Please excuse my lack of understanding with these issues. Grover's explanation leads to my next question: Even if I replace the rears with new PS2s, wouldn't the car still handle different, since the front treads are less than 100%? So would it make sense to also replace the fronts, even if they still have 75% left? Basically should I replace all four tires at the same time? Again, thanks in advance for recommendations.
  4. I have an 02 986 with Michelin Pilot Sports front and rear. I need to replace the rears, so I'd like to know if anyone would recommend replacing the rears with Pilot Sport A/S's as opposed to the standard Pilot Sports. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the reply. I was told my problem is the yellow and red wires are crossed. The constant wire on the Alpine is yellow, whereas its red on the Metra harness. I have it connected yellow to yellow/ red to red. Thanks again
  6. I've installed an Alpine 9886 unit. Used the Metra 1787 harness. Everything works fine, except I cannot save settings. If I change the sound settings, time, date setup, etc, it works fine...until I pull the key out of the ignition. When I start up again all settings are back to default. This is a minor annoyance now, but I'd rather not have to reset the settings countless times a day. Thanks in advance for replies.
  7. 2002 986 I have an issue that's currently just an annoyance and hopefully isn't a sign of a major problem. With the top up, if I lower the passenger window, when I raise it, the window goes outside of the slot in the top. It is in the fully up position. Sometimes opening the passenger door (window goes down a bit) and closing it again fixes it, but usually I have to unlock the top latch, let the window go down a bit, then lock the latch again, and the window aligns perfectly. In addition, if I put the top down, when I put it up again the window aligns perfectly. This only happens with the top up. Would you consider this to be a window or a top alignment issue? Please advise. Thanks in advance.
  8. 2002 Box. A few days ago I noticed a tear in my plastic rear window. It's about 1/3 inch wide, and in the middle. It's barely noticeable (to others besides myself). I can't think of how it could have "accidently" occured. The upholstery shop rep recommended I replace the entire top. I can always just claim it with my insurance, but I'd like to know if there are any options besides spending $1200 for a new top, or $500 to get a new plastic window sewn in. Can a plastic window tear be repaired?
  9. Thanks for the info! As you said, I'm out of luck (I got the remote on ebay). Dealer's asking $300 to order a new key ($150) and program it ($150). I know I must pay the programming fee, but where can I get a remote (preferably new) besides the dealer? Considering the $50 I've already wasted on ebay, unless I find one for less than $100, I'll end up paying more than what the dealer originally quoted. Thanks in advance. Sunset has the for $105... http://www.sunsetimports.com/porscheatcost.php Thanks, I'll contact Sunset today.

  11. Want a spare key. I recently purchased a (used) key fob and (new) blank. According to the seller, once the blank is cut, the key fob can be reprogrammed. However, I've read in this forum that a key fob cannot be programmed a second time. Please confirm.
  12. Thanks! I think I'll pass on these and get something from Tire Rack.
  13. I'm looking to replace the tires (205/50/17 and 255/40/17) on my 02 Box. A tire dealer recommended Michelin Riken Raptors. I've never heard of these; have seen good reviews on line, but nothing relating to Porsches. Smart choice?
  14. Yet another second owner with no Radio Code!! Any help would be most appreciated!! 2002 CDR-220 Becker Type 4462 Ser # 25015173 Thanks!!
