  1. Don't know about the codes, but sounds to me you got a great deal on a great car. Believe me, it gets to be more fun every day
  2. Sorry for earlier post. Posted by mistake from iPhone. Re hook tool: u can make one from a coathanger. Just do one with small gauge wire first to get correct shape. Can also do this for gas flap release if cheap plastic emerg pull ring breaks off like mine did even though I never had to use it. Good luck
  3. You are going to have to use the emergency release cable - the terminal in the fuse box was not added until model year 2001. Thanks Loren --- I was trying everything I could to not have to remove the wheel panel, as I have never done anything like that before. Do you think it would be possible to get a battery charger that hooked to the cigarette adapter that could give the battery enough charge to open the trunk? Thanks for your help! Yes, perhaps if you use the proper one. It will depend on if the battery has a dead cell. If you have a dead cell then no voltage across the battery. In most cases you can grab the emergency wire with a simple hook tool.
  4. You mentioned checking the tires. Are you running different tires on front/rear? Need to run same tire brand all around. This has been noted by others here, including me, with similar problems. Can't cross brands with the psm.
  5. I'm told it's probably a good idea to replace the water-pump while you're at it.
  6. you might also check with Jeff or one of the other good guys at Sunset Porsche for parts help.
  7. Yes. Remove the key and restart engine. Might need to do this a few times. Quirky Porsche issue
  8. I believe I've seen a thread about this exact question, possibly with photos, possibly in the DIY section. check the search engine... I've thought about this myself, but live in an area with a moderate climate, don't track the car, and don't really have an overheating concern. But I do take trips to hot country in the summer, and will be driving down to LA next week hoping it does not really warm up. All that being said, I've always wondered why Porsche did not just put the 3rd radiator in the C4S as well as the Turbo. Oh well, no intercoolers, no center radiator... just a C4S I guess. ;)
  9. I'm holding my breath on this one.... good luck, hope it's a fluke nothing. My first thought was IMS. What's the year and model of your car? If you're in Roseville, maybe Loren can help you.
  10. I was in a similar, but not matching spot. My 03 C4S had Pirelli P-zero's and I wanted to replace just the back. Mistake. I had wanted to switch over to Bridgestone 050 Pole Positions, and put 2 on the back. Wrong. I ended up driving the car with the PSM off most of the time as it kept kicking in anytime I went around a curve at over about 20 mph. So I put 2 of the 050's on the front, and voila problem solved. Subsequent changes have always been all four at the same time. I've run the Bridgestones on the C4S and my 911SC and like them. This would be the Bridgestone Potenza O50 Pole Position. the Pole Position is a different tire than the standard 050, so check carefully if you look at these. Stickier compound on the Pole Position than the regular 050. Porsche recommends the 020, but I think the 050 Pole Position is just as good. It's a summer tire, not meant for use in extreme cold, snow, etc., but I live in a relatively mild climate area, with lots of rain in the winter, and like the 050 because of the AA traction rating, which means its good in wet conditions. Other folks might prefer running an all-season tire, but I drive on mountain roads and want the better grip of a summer tire. Hope this doesn't start up the "tire wars" again. All above is imho of course. ps: happy St. Patrick's Day.
  11. I don't believe there is any option besides putting in another shelf as you've described. However, the entire console can be removed, giving you the look of the air-cooled 911's.
  12. Bridgestone potenza 050 pole position. Let the tire wars begin once again.....
  13. I've seen many postings here that seem to indicate you could have a problem with the ignition switch. and I wonder if there's a separate module for the clock that might need to be changed out. and some folks have had problems leading to a replacement of the entire display. good luck...
  14. sounds right to me too. In my 911SC I've picked up a spike which blew out the left rear tire in the rain on the 280 at about 80 mph, and a small pebble which jammed the front a/c condenser fan which then overheated and started on fire. no s___. hope this one works out ok for you. actually sounds like it might have been a beer can that got caught up in there.
  15. Welcome. How about some pics of your p-car? And let's hear it for best looking of all the 996 Porsches. Burk, are you listening? A new C4S joins the fold...
  16. Durametric, or dealer equipment needed to clear the light.
  17. If you can get a regulator separate from the alternator, that's great. I'd still call Jeff at Sunset Porsche.
  18. my memory is that the regulator is built into the alternator... check with Jeff at Sunset about a remanufactured alternator.... good luck... I had to replace the alternator in my 2003 C4S, same alt as yours I believe, at about 14k. bad battery caused it to overwork and I guess just quit working.
