  1. Thanks! Where did you find the theft-protection code? I suspect everytime you disconnect the radio or the amp, you will need to enter some sort of anti-theft code to reactivate the radio.
  2. I got the Bose upgrade, so it is not that bad, but $850? Come on. Can I just replace the amp? Would the HU and speakers work with the new aftermarket amp?
  3. Hi all, My radio has been acting up for a while(switching on and off by itself). I sort of ignored it cus I could tab the amplifier a few times to bring it back to life. It became so bad, it kept switching on and off even I locked the car. Well, the result was it drained the battery and my car was dead. Battery has to be replaced by a new one. It has been over five years, so it is about time anyway. The parts and labor for replacing the amp is $850! Well, thanks but no thanks. I asked them to pull the fuse for the radio and amp before they install the new battery. Just curious, where exactly is the fuse? If I decide to install the amp myself, what special tools I need? Do I need the radio code?If so, where can I get the code? Thanks!
  4. I will post pics of her with new 19's soon. Hopefully, they will be here this weekend. I have the exact wheels. They are wicked light. Ah...hate to burst the bubble, but your car doesn't look like a widebody one. It has an aero kit with the wing and stuff, but the fenders are exactly like a regular 996. I love the wing though. :D Nice color, too. What 19 inch wheels you are getting?
  5. Hi all, My CPO warranty is going to end in less than a year. So far the car has been running strong except some noise from the clutch once in a full moon and a plastic cover center of the dash broad seems to be a little loose. RMS was replaced a few thousand miles before we bought the car. With help from my friend who happens to have a lift in his garage, we performed a minor service with oil change. We also checked the brake fuild, it is still very clear and yellow. So far so good. No major problem.....(fingers crossed) Hearing all these stories about expensive repairs, it scares me a little. Do you think it is worth it to pay for a complete checkup and try to identify any problems now, so that we can address it by using the warranty? :D Please feel free to share your thoughts on this. Maybe you are/were in the similar situation before your warranty running out.
  6. I had a set of PS2 before. It had 20k miles on them. They were so loud I suspected it was a wheel bearing problem. I replaced them with Bridgestone 050 pole position. The 95% of the noise are gone. I guess it is just the laws of physics, tires that wide are bounded to have tire noises like that. Well, that makes our Porsche even more special then. :D
  7. Hi all, If you read my other post: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21510, you would know my clutch is making some funny high pitch noise whenever I let go the clutch pedal too slow and giving it too much gas. It doesn't happen all the time. It does not seem like it is getting worse or vice versa. It is a strange one. Anyway, many of you suggested it could be a bad throw out bearing. If so, is it under warranty? If it is, how could I show it to the mechanic (since it only happens once every few weeks). I am not even sure if I can dulplicate it on the spot. Well, if it is not that bad. Is it something that would get worse in time and would lead to transmission failure or any sort of major problem? If not, maybe I can just drive carefully and spare me the headache of bringing my car to the dealer time after time, only to have the mechanic telling me that they can't dulplicate the noise and I would end up paying for nothing. Please feel free to share your thoughts about this. Thanks in advance. :renntech:
  8. I thought it is a wear and tear item. What did you say or do to get them repair it under warranty? I'm curious.
  9. It doesn't happen every time I depress the pedal or release the pedal. It only happens when I am lazy and giving too much gas at the clutch engagement point (N to 1st gear shift) while releasing the clutch pedal too slowly. I remember in another manual car, I did the same thing. Especially, when I tried to unstuck the car by moving the car forward and backward. I would smell the clutch was afterward. Instead of being able to smell the clutch, I've got these high pitch noises from the P-car everytime I was too slow releasing the clutch (only at the N to 1st gear shift though, 2 to 3....5 to 6 are fine). Interesting. B)
  10. I am pretty sure it is from the transmission. I can dulplicate the noise just by giving more gas and release the clutch pedal extra slow at the engagement point. It is like some metal part is rubbing some other metal parts. It only happen in 1st gear at a full stop. I would say, depends on how careless I am. It happens once every 100 times.
  11. It doesn't happen all the time. It only happens when I am lazy with the clutch. So this is not a built in warning mechanism huh. Throw out bearing......Does it mean the engine has to be taken out for mechanic to check?
  12. Is this some sort of built in warning mechanism to remind the driver to release the clutch pedal quicker? It always happens when in the full stop situation, I release the clutch pedal and give some gas. You know, sometimes the right foot is faster than the left foot. The sound comes from behind. A little high pitch. Like something is rubbing something else. Is it normal? :o
  13. Let's us know what you think about your new set of tires. I just had my tires replaced for my C2 with a set of Potenze 050 pole position. So far so good, excellent traction. I got them from tirerack.
  14. Hello, Anyone has a blown light bulb? Mine is blown and I was able to pop out the cover but not sure how to extract the light bulb without breaking anything. It looks like a wire behind the light. Should I disconnect it first before removing the light bulb? Is it a light bulb common enough for me to get it from places like Autozone? If anyone has experience of replacing that light bulb, please feel free to share. :)
  15. Well, I guess all I have to do is to hose down the carriage once in a while and forget about to scrub it clean, cus it will remove the protective coating. :D
  16. Yup, it looks like that. Is our engine made of aluminum? I wonder why Porsche feels the need to spray that kind of undercoating on the bottom of the oil pan.
  17. I did the AC this year, sounds like you are doing good. Completely unrelated question, ViolaGT3?..., do you play viola?
  18. The other day I looked at the undercarriage of the car. It looked like a lot of dirt from the road got stuck to the bottom of the engine. I showed it to a mechanic. he said it is just undercoating. I have seen a detailed undercarriage of a 996. It is so clean you can eat on it. It doesn't have that "undercoating" on it. Maybe when the car was detailed the undercoating was removed? I don't know. I wonder if the 996 comes with one of those textured undercoating? Just curious. :renntech:
  19. Back to normal. I wonder if it is the moisture in the atmosphere or what. It happens two times in the past twe weeks already. There was one time the bass all a sudden went crazy. All I did was to take the bottle of motor oil away from the little space between the amp and the side of the car, away from the cooling fan of the amp. I did the same thing this morning. After the radio started acting up, I removed the bottle of motor oil and gave the cooling fan of the amp some room and the problem is gone. Alright, I think I will have to make sure I am not putting anything there to obstruct the airflow near the amp's cooling fan. I am just thinking out loud. Thanks for reading and responding to my thread. :D
  20. Thanks Loren, I will go to Pelican parts to find out how much is the amp just in case. I wonder if I can run some test to determine what exactly went wrong. I hope a fuse was blown. All I have to do is to replace the fuse not the whole amp.
  21. The on switch is pretty tight. I haven't checked the connection in the back though. I need to find out how to take the HU out of the dash first. I guess.
  22. Hi all, My 03 C2 came with the Premium sound package, radio, amplifier, speaker upgrade and stuff. It has been working fine until recently. The unit switchs on and off by itself. It has the annoying noise like it is trying to read the CD over and over again. The only thing I can see on the display is the name "Porsche" appears and disappears. What is wrong with it? I wonder can it be fixed or I will need a new one. Any ideas?
  23. The noise came back and got louder, so I replaced the tires with Bridgestone Potenza 050 Pole position. If I shut off the radio and listen carefully, there is still a little road noise which is normal for this type of tires. Now the difference is day and night. Now I know for sure the noise came from the old Pilot Sport tires. I can't believe I have been driving on bad tires for such a long time.
