  1. Thanks for the part number Tool Pants. I got a hardtop that was missing the harness and needed the part number. This is a 10+ year old thread, gotta love the search feature.
  2. Very good Jamtlanskillen. It appears..... OK, it's a fact..... that it is much easier to delete the PCM1 and install an aftermarket unit. I will always be disappointed that I couldn't complete my project. The 993 Porsches came with a telephone console. A worthless feature now but highly sought after for its different look and rarity. Kind of like the PCM1.
  3. Thanks Jamtlanskillen. After doing a ton of work on this and contacting two shops that specialize in Porsche audio systems I have abandoned this project. The professional audio shops wouldn't touch it and didn't know of anyone that had done this. I did find one post that the OP had added the PCM1, and he stated he would have never done it if he had known how much trouble it was. When Porsche builds these cars they put a wiring harness in the car that fits the OEM equipment. With the PCM1 they put a harness with the extra plugs that power and run the unit. It is possible if you have the time and talent to add the needed plugs to the existing harness, but that is over my head. Looking at the plugs that plug into the back of the PCM1 and the CDR220, it would appear that the radio portion should be plug and play. Not so. The pins in each of the plugs have different values. Even jumping pins I couldn't get the head unit to power up. So, I dumped the Kenwood double din and went back to the OEM CDR220 radio, It was an effort in futility that I enjoyed!
  4. Haaaaa.... I almost PMed you Loren! Yeah, I may be beating that poor horse. I am looking for an OEM look and like the look of the PCM 1. IMHO, it fits the car. If I can't figure this out I'll go back to the original CDR-220. I'll post my results.... positive or negative!

  6. Thanks. The problem is there are some changes on the plugs. On plug A wire 7 is free on the PCM and power on the CDR.
  7. I am attempting to install a PCM 1 into my 2001 Boxster S without using the navigation disk driver. My car originally came with a single din CDR-220. When plugged in the PCM doesn't power up. The unit is good and when the single din unit is plugged in it powers up fine. I am guessing that the navigation disk driver has to be used to supply power to the PCM. I don't have the cables or harness for the nav driver and I don't want the or need the navigation function on the unit. If anyone know a work around I would appreciate it. Thanks for any suggestions.
  8. Cool, thanks Loren. I have an aftermarket double din in my Boxster and was considering putting in an the OEM unit. It is dated, but I like the idea of putting in a period correct unit.
  9. Yes, I did. I used a 35 watt 5000K kit. Unfortunately, it was too hot. You could feel the heat on the lens and I have no doubt it would discolor the lens over a short period of time. I switched to LEDs and after trying several landed on the below one.
