  1. Thanks as always, Loren! Will give your advice a try!
  2. I notice the same thing too on my car (2001 base, no alterations). For me, it gets a little difficult to get into 1st gear only at a very specific situation. I have to wiggle into neutral and then things go smoothly into 1st gear. This occurs only in the scenario where I move shifter into first gear to move the car from stand still (no difficulty getting into 1st at this point), step on clutch and move shifter to neutral to coast to a stop, and try to get shifter into 1st gear again while clutch is still depressed (this is when shifter would have difficulty moving into 1st). Also, when my wife drives the car and goes into 1st or 2nd, I can see the stick handle moves a little bit when she releases the clutch pedal.
  3. Bingo, Glyn!!! I was planning to take a picture of that light this weekend to provide a clearer description. That's exactly the LED light I am talking about. As you said, there is one in each door handle. I reread the manual last night and I guess the correct term is what you used, an "orientation" light. When sitting in driver seat, it is located immediately to the left of the "dome" light. This light remains on for days in my car. The ones in the handles do shut off after half hour or so.
  4. Hi, Sorry. I just reread the topic heading and body that I typed this morning when I started the topic and maybe I didn't clearly explain my observations (my mind works in a strange way in the morning, especially after lacking sleep). =) It's not the red alarm LED on the dash (if that's what you are referring to, Loren. That red LED light still goes on when alarm is on as normal). The alarm system seems to work fine. The particular LED I am referring to is the single accent (yellow) LED light sitting near the IR sensor on top of the windshield, near the latch to unhook the soft top. The last time I drove the car was Sunday evening, and so this single accent LED has probably been on since then until I first noticed it last night. I then locked the car & turn on the alarm with the remote, and all accent lights are off (which seems normal). I turned the alarm back off with the remote and wait around 5 minutes for all accent lights to fade out (or so I thought). I checked that particular accent LED at this point and again noticed that it's the only one on! So I went away and checked back 2 hours later and that darn accent light is still on! I am just curious if other boxster with accent LED lights have the same behavior for this particular one at the top of the front windshield? I know LED lights do not take much energy, but keeping it on indefinitely seems strange to me.
  5. Car is 2001 base boxster. I noticed yesterday night that the inside LED light on top of the windshield around the IR sensor area remains on indefinitely whenever the alarm is off. It is the only LED light that won't go out after the door has been shut for a certain period of time. I checked the light several hours after the car has been sitting stationary and the darn light is still on! I wouldn't have caught this if I didn't decide to walk into my garage without turning on a light. It kind of surprised me seeing the interior of the car glowing softly. All other LED lights (e.g. both sides of door handle) eventually go off. However, once I lock the car by turning on the alarm, all lights are completely out. Is this normal behavior? If so, I don't see the reason why. If I leave the car stationary for a long time such as weeks or months, won't this light drain the battery if I forgot to turn on the alarm?
  6. If rear light "balance" is the thing you're trying to achieve, I have another obvious solution. Since rear fog light doesn't seem to be a major interest, why not just remove the rear fog bulb from the left side. This way, no need to rewire anything and things are very symmetrical. Since you lived okay without knowing that the rear fog light existed before, it shouldn't make a major impact to remove the bulb.
  7. LOL! =D Thanks for the advice, Tool Pants. Now I know why I am not getting exceptional and expedited services from all the shops I'd visited! I was missing the 12 pack of Dos Equis! I went to Home Depot last week and explain my situation to them. They lead me to the drill head section and showed me something similar to your description of easy-out where you drill into the broken screw and try to remove it using a wrench. I was very close to purchasing the tool but was hesistant whether it'll work. From your experience, I guess I made the right decision to try something else.
  8. I have the same bra that goes over the lights and am facing the same tight torx screw on the passenger side of the car. The driver's side screw came off without any major effort. I tried to unscrew the darn thing using both the L-shape tool that came with the bra kit as well as my own torx bit. Unfortunately, the head of the screw is now stripped. The hole looks more like a hexagonal head screw instead of the torx scree with "teeth". As someone mentioned above, I tried to spray WD40 on the thing, let it sit for several hours, but still this won't work (usual work for other tight screw situations that I've encountered). Why the heck does Porsche wants to screw the thing so darn tight and also use crappy screw that strips so easily?!? Does anyone know how to remove this screw now that the hole in the head is stripped? :help:
  9. Hi Loren, Thank you vey much! I was tracing through several chains of postings and finally go to the same page URL that you recommended. :) I should have read a little deeper this afternoon. The diagrams and pictures you posted are very helpful. I am going to give it a try the next several days, now that I have a visual plan. Thanks again! Greatly appreciate this!
  10. Thanks again, juniinc! I took a look at the fuse layout tonight, and there was none specifically assigned to the passenger-side visor mirror light. The driver's side visor lights still work fine. In this case, I don't think it's the fuse problem. I've read Loren's explanation on removing the visor and also took a look my visor mirror insert assembly. Still not sure how to get it out though, and since it's pretty dark already, I don't think I dare try to pry out anything right now without risking the chance of breaking something. I wish Loren posted some pictures along with his explanation.
  11. Hmmm...never thought of checking out the fuse first. That may be the issue. Will check it out tonight or this weekend when I get a chance and will update this thread! Thanks, juniinc!!!
  12. Hi Everyone, I just bought a used 2001 Boxster (my very first Porsche) a couple of weeks ago. When I brought it back home, I noticed that the lights on the passenger-side visor mirror do not work! I read the Boxster manual and combed the web for instructions on how to replace these lights and found none. Can anyone who has experience with this help me out? I am trying to see if I can DIY before sending the car to Porsche dealer for a fix. It seems like a simple job, but I may be wrong. Thanks!
