  1. I like the direct injection and that the engine has lost some weight. And the PDK seems neat. But i can't help thinking that Porsche has a responsibility to make more efficient cars. Just because someone can afford to put an unlimited supply of fuel in a car doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. I think a 35mpg sports car is an immediate realistic goal that should be set. Even the old Triumph Sprite's gets 30mpg. And that was 30 years ago. If the designers are truely bright then they should see the enviroment and efficiency should be the goal. Not just to become the worlds most profitable sports car manufacturer. Triumph Sprite ? There was a Triumph Spitfire. Or an Austin Healey Sprite. Both would struggle to get to 100 mph except downhill, or 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 weeks. I am pretty certain that Porsche could make a car of that "performance" that achieved 50 mpg. But would anyone buy one?
  2. Here, hopefully, are the installation instructions. Thanks to Loren for increasing the file size limit.
  3. What is required to have to install just this part? where does it connect? How does it work with the navigation PCM? I have the installation instructions but they are 2.7Mb, larger than the attachment limit here of 2.05Mb. The time quoted to install is 150TU which I understand means 1.5 hours. It seems somewhat more sophisticated than the $30 kits referred to elsewhere and the FM tuning appears to happen automatically, not by "tuning into a station" as has been suggested.
  4. I note that SunCoast offer a Porsche OEM kit specifically for the Boxster from 2005. So presumably Porsche have already "adapted" the Cayenne unit. They also offer OEM kits for the 911 and Cayman.
  5. I just got a card from my dealer telling me that "Urgent Recall W731" has not been completed on my 2005 997. Does anyone know what this is all about? Thanks, KenH
  6. cant read the thread (Porsche TSB 3531), do I have to make a donation in order to see that thread? or is there a shortcut or anything. TIA Yes, you do need to be a contributing member to read the details. However, even without the details you can now be aware that this is a known problem for certain cars and there is a defined fix (which is half the battle). Unfortunately it requires removal of the transmission so it is definitely not a 5 minute job. I suggest that you go back to your dealer and ask them to refer to this TSB. As your car is probably in warranty they should be able to arrange for the repair f.o.c. Write to me at ken@sms.xerox.com if you want technical details. Not that there is much you can do about it yourself. cant read the thread (Porsche TSB 3531), do I have to make a donation in order to see that thread? or is there a shortcut or anything. TIA Yes, you need to be a Contributing Member to view TSBs. Since your car is under warranty your dealer should repair this. Tell your dealer to review TSB 6/05 3531 6-Speed Manual Transmission: Gear Shift Lever Does Not Return to Neutral - dated 7-29-2005. He needs to apply the fix described there - it should take about 40 minutes to do the work. My interpretation (which could well be wrong) was that it takes 40 minutes plus the time to remove/reinstall the transmission.
